s the president of the Southern Nevada Public Television (SNPT) Board of Directors, I am intimately familiar with the hard work and dedication everyone at Vegas PBS puts into achieving its mission. I want to give a heartfelt thank you to Tom Axtell for leading the station for over 25 years. He will be missed in retirement, but his impact is indelible.

The leadership team and staff at Vegas PBS are dedicated to serving Southern Nevadans in a myriad of ways. From the entertaining and insightful programming you know and love, to educational resources for teachers, students and caregivers, to services for Nevada’s workforce, Vegas PBS will continue to instill a strong sense of place and community through all of its services.

The SNPT Board recently approved the next strategic plan for Vegas PBS. Written in collaboration with the leadership team, employees, and the SNPT Board, this forward-looking vision leads Vegas PBS through 2025. This plan will guide the station to continued growth, with new technology and initiatives that will meet the demands of our community. From bringing the greatest content to your televisions, computers and mobile devices, to expanded educational and workforce services, to producing even more of the nationally recognized local content that celebrates our communal sense of place, the future looks brighter than ever.

This month you’ll find new and beloved programs that educate, entertain and inspire. Leading the way is a slate of the award-winning programs like Nature and NOVA. Viewers can discover the fascinating lives of primates and the animal world of Santa’s fabled home, as well as visit the most famous landmarks in Rome, Istanbul and Paris. Vegas PBS gives you insights into the workings of our world from trusted experts, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Find more information about these great stories on pages 6 and 7 in this magazine. As one of the most important presidential elections in our history approaches, Vegas PBS brings you trusted, in-depth coverage from PBS NewsHour. For additional insights, watch Washington Week and Nevada Week on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. Don’t miss Independent Lens: Represent on Sunday, November 1 at 11 p.m., which follows three women taking on entrenched politicians as they run for office. For a little fun, catch Antiques Roadshow: Election Collection on Monday, November 2 at 8 p.m. You’ll find a wonderful lineup of programs all month long in November.

I’m excited for the future of this station. As the station continues to expand its digital presence with new technologies and adapts to serve Southern Nevadans in turbulent times, Vegas PBS’ mission remains the same. This station’s services and programming are cutting-edge and necessary, bringing you a balanced, fact-based understanding of the world, the nation and Southern Nevada.
