PerFormersAfter 12 years in the music business, numerous APRA silver scroll nominations, a couple of Tui awards, a debut double platinum album with thinking room, platinum status with her third album in swings the tide, Moa could be termed a minor veteran. But that would suggest she has lost the confessional nature that has become her signature in the world of pop music. Anika Moa’s life is evolving to incorporate new ambitions and responsibilities - but as always – she lays bare her soul & casts a tender and cheeky grin across every song and crowd.

raybon kanMasterton-born comedian Raybon Kan first sprang to attention as a newspaper columnist. Trained as a lawyer, he's performed at comedy festivals worldwide. He's been named Best Comedian by magazines including Metro and North & South; listed in Reader's Digest's 50 Most Trusted Kiwis; and among David Hartnell's Top 10 Worst Dressed.

Raybon won the TV IQ quiz Test the Nation three times. His books include An Asian at my Table, and he co-wrote the screenplay for New Zealand comedy-horror film Diagnosis: Death, a ghost story set in a clinical drug trial. A popular after dinner speaker and MC, Raybon's stream of jokes on Twitter are often quoted in the media. His latest venture is Raybon Kan™ PassiveWear™, an online store which recently launched a range of provocative political pottery (first with coffee mugs.)

the soul aGencyThe Soul Agency has big band influences tossed in with The Commitments’ styling, Jo Cockers grunt and Imelda May’s class. With strong male and female vocals incorporating full 3 part harmonies, with sax and trumpet giving that big band era sound and complimenting the guitar, drums, bass and keys. Members are – Sharleyne Diamond (Vocals and Light Percussion), Jonny Elder (Guitar and vocals), Al Walker (Bass), Dale Pelvin (Drums and vocals), Micah Templeton-Wolfe (Saxophone), John Willers (Trumpet), and Roselyn Cloake (Keyboards and backing vocals).

kyokushin karate demonstrationKyokushin karate is an exciting and effective way to acquire superb physical fitness and self-defence skills. Built on centuries-old traditions of self-defence, Kyokushin karate was first introduced in Japan by karate and judo master Masutatsu Oyama. Since then, more than 15 million people around the world have taken up the challenge of this exacting discipline. Timaru has a Kyokushin Dojo on Douglas Street – new members are always welcome.

inharmony choirInHarmony Choir was formed in 2008 by Di Cleverley. They now have around 40 members and are very much a ‘fun-based’ choir. They are a ‘contemporary’ choir and like to mix traditional with modern styles. They have male and female members and you may have seen them perform at Christmas on the Bay, the concert they started, each year.

Johanna Ford and cam scottThis will be the first time Johanna and Cam have performed together; though both are seasoned entertainers. Johanna’s influences include Adele, John Lennon, and Coldplay. She has performed locally at fundraisers and used to be a big part of the country music scene. Cam’s influences include Joe Nichols, Keith Urban and Jay Z and he has recently spent time at the CMAA Country Music College in Tamworth, Australia. He has also won the Male Vocal section at the Gore Gold Guitar Awards 2010.

PhiliPino dance GrouPThe Philippine Society of Christchurch first dance is the Bulaklakan, a Flower dance. Next a traditional song is sung by Vicki and Monski. The second dance is the Pandango dance which is a candle dance.

First Prize of $500 will be awarded to the winner of the competition.

Contemporary Designs inspired by Traditional costumes

Participants are encouraged to let their minds wonder and become inspired by a traditional cultural design to create a contemporary day or night wear expression.

It is about the textile and the design concept. The design needs to reflect a unique place within the world of culture, so think about colour, textile, texture and embellishment. Be inspired by customary themes and the story of the whole culture.

Garments will be judged on:• Design innovation from a traditional theme• Cut and Finish• Compatibility of fabric/fibre and design• Originality• Total Look

The Judges decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
