Soyol is more economical than petro-based polyols.

Because Soyol is bio-based and not subject to the

fl uctuations of world petroleum prices, and because

Soyol requires less energy to produce, it costs less.

Unlike petro-based polyols, bio-based SoyolTM is an

annually renewable resource. That means a cleaner

environment, healthier economy and a stronger, more

stable farming community.

Like petro-based polyols, soybased Soyol is a quality

product with consistent properties. Our quality control labs

monitor production to ensure that our products are made to

meet their specifi cations.

Here are some of the environmental benefi ts:

• A BEES/Life Cycle Analysis shows that Soyol has only

25% of the environmental impact of petroleum based

polyols.

• Two pounds of CO2 are sequestered for every pound of

Soyol produced.

• Soyol is 100% renewable, which offers a succinct

advantage when formulating for government procurement

program. Economically, Soyol offers advantages as well.

• Soyol creates and increases demand for agricultural prod-

ucts. This will in turn offer the agricultural community

higher returns for their products.

• Soyol helps build and strengthen the agricultural-indus-

trial complex. This adds more jobs to the U.S. economy.

• Soyol helps reduce dependency on foreign oil sources.

• Soyol is made in America.

Performance

USSC’s Soyol, soy based polyol is easy to use to replace

polyols in your existing formulations or in your formula-

tion development. USSC has kept the following attributes

in mind while developing Soyol:

• Equal to or enhanced performance over competitive

materials

• Consistent product quality

• A material that is easy to formulate with – i.e.

comparable reactivity to competitive products

• A low odor product

Our experience shows that you can easily blend Soyol in

the polyol side with minor adjustments to catalysts and

surfactant levels.

Economical

Urethane molders are experiencing extreme cost pressures

from the demands of their customers to cut costs, while

fi ghting the rising prices of petroleum based products at

the same time. End users have also expressed a strong de-

mand for green products in the market. This means green

products must be cost competitive or they will not survive.

Soyol, because it is based upon soybeans, does not experi-

ence the rising cost pressures associated with increasing

petroleum prices. USSC has developed a process to pro-

duce Soyol so that it is on par or lower cost than competi-

tive petroleum based products.

Technical Support

USSC offers assistance for your formulation needs.

USSC’s technical staff includes a Director of Research and

Development, four formulation chemists and also support

technicians. Our technical staff has extensive experience

in formulating polyurethane systems and is capable of de-

veloping a formulation that meets your needs. USSC has

high pressure metering equipment and spray equipment to

simulate your production conditions.

Bio-Tuff™

Description

Bio-Tuff is a two-component (1:1) spray-on urethane/urea hybrid elastomeric

coating. It was developed for applications using a high pressure/ high temperature

impingement mix machine. Bio-Tuff is formulated to provide material strength,

fl exibility and abrasion resistance for a variety of applications.

In addition to offering all the product qualities that traditional petroleum-based

polyurethane elastomers possess, Bio-Tuff offers an ecologically friendly bio-based

aspect. Bio-Tuff is formulated around Soyol™. Soyol is a renewable polyol,

produced from soybean oil. USSC has worked with soybean oil to increase its

functionality and reactivity to make it suitable for use in polyurethane reactions.

Bio-Tuff offers the advantage that atmospheric carbon dioxide is consumed during

the production of Soyol. Roughly two pounds of carbon dioxide is sequestered in the

production of one pound of soybean oil.

Besides being environmentally friendly, Bio-Tuff is cost effective. USSC

understands the customers’ demand for green products. USSC also understands

the economic pressures that are present in the market and that being green will not

command any price premium. Therefore, USSC has kept this in mind and developed

a polyol that will deliver properties of petroleum based polyols, yet offer a cost ad-

vantage. Soyol is not dependent upon petroleum-based raw materials, therefore, they

will not be as greatly affected by the fl uctuations in the petroleum market.

Bio-Tuff can be used for moisture and abrasion barriers, such as roof and wall

waterproofi ng, and coating concrete walkways. Bio-Tuff can be applied to various

surfaces including metal, wood, concrete, fi berglass, and paper stock.

SoyComfort™

Description

SoyComfort is USSC’s product line of fl exible foams. USSC has developed this line of products

for the furniture and automotive applications. SoyComfort is an MDI based system designed for

molded products, with at least 20% to 40% soy polyol loading on the polyol side.

In addition to offering all the product qualities that traditional petroleum based polyurethane

foams possess, SoyComfort offers an ecologically friendly bio-based aspect. SoyComfort is

formulated around Soyol™. Soyol is a renewable polyol, produced from soybean oil. USSC has

worked with soybean oil to increase its functionality and reactivity to make it suitable for use in

polyurethane reactions.

SoyComfort offers the advantage that atmospheric carbon dioxide is consumed during the pro-

duction of soybean oil. Roughly two pounds of carbon dioxide is sequestered in the production

of one pound of soybean oil.

USSC has commissioned a Life Cycle Analysis study on Soyol in comparison to petroleum

based polyols. This study showed that Soyol has only 25% of the environmental impact that a

petroleum based polyol has. So there is a signifi cant lower impact on the environment.

Besides being economically friendly, SoyComfort systems are cost effective. USSC understands

the customers’ demand for green products. USSC also understands the economic pressures that

are present in the market and that being green will not command any price premium. Therefore,

USSC has kept this in mind and developed a polyol that will deliver properties of petroleum

terials, therefore, they will not be as greatly affected by the fl uctuations in the petroleum market.

SoyMatrix™

Description

Urethane Soy Systems Co. has taken its novel soy-based polyurethane technology and adapted it to

provide a superior product for composite applications. SoyMatrix, USSC’s resin system for com-

posite materials, is a ground-breaking development in composite processing, including pultrusion

and fi lament winding. Historically composites have been dominated by ester based resins. SoyMa-

trix is a soy-based polyurethane system that offers many advantages over conventional ester based

systems like:

• Enhanced weight to strength ratio, potentially resulting in thinner cross-sections in part design

• Lesser or no use of glass mat, potentially reduced product cost

• Faster processing line speed, and consequently higher production rate

• No VOC emissions (specifi cally styrene), which provides cleaner and healthier work

environments

Formulated with Soyol™, USSC’s soybean oil based polyol, SoyMatrix is made from renewable

resources. It also makes SoyMatrix cost effective, as Soyol is made from soybean oil, an agricul-

tural product, and thus removed from price fl uctuations of the petroleum market. Also, the inherent

qualities of Soyol make it ideal for pultrusion and fi lament winding applications, as it is easier to

process by providing longer open time. In addition to all the advantages listed above Soyol helps

the U.S. economy in a number of ways:

• Increases demand for agricultural products

• Provides more employment by supporting the agricultural-industrial complex

• Reduces dependency upon foreign oil sources
