Initial problemsInitial problems

=> The best option was to disassemble the whole system piece by piece

• View ports were not in line• No vacuum could be established• We had no idea how the whole system looked inside• The trap had to be changed anyhow

No, still vacuum problems~ 6·10-2 mbar

Leak (hole) searchLeak (hole) search

• pumping test of the dewars• found a bad weld on the LN dewar• no further (big) leaks detected

Next stepsNext steps

• Put the system (again) back together and check the vacuum• Add the electronics and optics to the trap• If the vacuum should be OK – cool down (LN + LHe) and energize the SC magnet• Think of installing a Faraday cup under the trap• Shoot some (any) ions through• Make simulations of ions inside the trap• Be optimistic!
