Letter from the EditorThings are looking a little different here at Timber Press. For thepast few years we have been improving the overall look of our bookswith fresh, clear, inviting designs. Now we have updated our logoto communicate how we are growing into the future. We will stillpublish the work of experts in gardening, horticulture, and naturalhistory but in a way that appeals to a wider audience, and inpackages that reect that accessibility.

The most recent example of that effort is the launching of thePlant Lovers Guides , a new series about the plants that everygardener should know, grow, and love. Four new titles each springwill highlight the best varieties of a particular genus or group ofplants, show how to design with them, and reveal tips and tricksfor propagation and cultivation. With their beautiful packages

Every gardener and nature lover will want to own Living Landscape:Designing for Beauty and Biodiversity in the Home Garden . Two ofour bestselling authors, Doug Tallamy and Rick Darke, have teamedup to show homeowners how to put the principles of Dougs seminalbook Bringing Nature Home into practice. By following their advice, readers can help to slow the rate of species extinction and keep theearth the biodiverse home it needs to be for our survival.

An easy way to increase biodiversity is to replace the lawn witha garden. Evelyn Hadden rst told us how in Beautiful No-MowYards . Now she is turning her attention to the last frontier of thelandscape in Hellstrip Gardening: Create a Paradise Between theSidewalk and the Curb . She shows how to reclaim this forgottenbit of real estate and make it a beautiful, bountiful, thriving part ofthe garden.

All the excitement isnt just in the garden, either. We are introducinganother new series, this one of regional foraging books that provideall the information readers need to nd the most avorful wild foods. With local experts leading the way, readers will be able to turn their

backyards and the elds and forests beyond into a cornucopia ofproduce for the table.

A home garden is ofen seen as separate rom thenatural world surrounding it. In truth, it is just one

part o a larger landscape that is made up o manyliving layers. The replacement o the rich layers onative plants with tur grass greatly diminishes agardens biological diversity and ecological unction.

The Living Landscape seeks to reverse this trendby showing gardeners how to create a beauti ullandscape that is ull o li e. Written by Rick Darkeand Doug Tallamy, two bestselling garden authors,it is the denitive guide to designing a beauti ul,biodiverse home garden. The authors rst explaineach layer o the landscape and what role the plants
