Miguel Lucio y Bustaman-te was a Spanish friar of the Franciscan order who regu-larly wrote articles for La Voz de España. In authoring the novel Si Tandang Basio Macu-nat, he became one of the very ttfew friars in the Spanish co-lonial Philippines who man-aged to write literary piecesin Tagalog.

Robert Macmicking was a British esquire who lived inthe Philippines from 1848to 1850. He is the ancestorof Lt. Col. Joseph McMick-ing, the husband of Mer-cedes Zobel, and one of the

pioneering leaders of the Ay-ala Corporation.

Ino M. Manalo was former director of the MetropolitanMuseum of Manila. He is alsoan award-winning short story and essay writer.

Patricio Mariano was a Fili-pino author, poet, journalistand translator. He wrote sev-eral Tagalog novels, includingAng Mga Anak Dalita and Ang Tala sa Panghulo, but is best known for his Tagalog trans-lation of José Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere.

José Eugenio Borao Mateois an authority on historicalrelations between Spain andTaiwan during the Spanishpresence on the island (1626-1642). He is currently teach-ing Spanish language andculture at National TaiwanUniversity.

John Maurice Miller was thecompiler and editor of Philip-pine Folklore Stories, publishedin 1904, and the author of The Workingman’s Paradise: AnAustralian Labor Novel, pub-lished in 1892.

Resil B. Mojares is the found-ing director of the University of San Carlos Cebuano Stud-ies Center. Roberto G. Paulino is an as-sistant professor at the De-partment of Art Studies at the University of the Philippines. He has written on art for the Philippine Star and the Met-rropolitan Museum of Manila.

Rosalinda Pineda Ofreneo is a professor at the College of Social Work and Community Development of the Univer-sity of the Philippines. She has authored several publications on the role of women in the economy.

James Alexander Robertsonwas an American scholar, translator and bibliographer. Aside from editing The Philip-pine Islands, 1493-1898, Rob-ertson served as the fi rst edi-tor of the Hispanic American Historical Review and as thewdirector of the National Li-brary of the Philippines from 1910 to 1916.

D.M. Reyes is a professor of literature at the Ateneo de Manila University. Promising Light, his book of poems, was ttpublished in 2008.
