    The announcement of the newly formed Na onal Skills Development Authority(NSDA) re-enforces the Government of India’s vision on Skills Development. 500 million is a serious target and commendable work is being done both publicand private sector organisa ons.     Mr. S. Ramodarai, Advisor to Prime Minister on Skill Development visited our agship IL&FSIns tute of Skills (IIS) based in the heart of Delhi’s industrial cluster Okhla. Mr. RCM Reddy, MDand CEO, IL&FS Skills took him around the facility, explaining the strengths of our placementlinked skill development model.

    During his visit, Mr. Ramadorai interacted with IL&FS sta , trainers and the learners. He discussedthe signi cance and the need to provide a major boost to the skill development of the youth for

    enhancing their employability in the job market.

    IL&FS Skills is working to strengthen the ‘Educa on to Employment’ highway by engaging allstakeholders and crea ng socially sustainable enterprises. Our ini a ves in skills range from publicsector scheme based programs, CSR, private funded to public private partnership models (PPP).

    Under our skills ini a ves with Government of India, currently we are working very ac vely withMinistry of Rural Development, Ministry of Tex les, Ministry of Human Resource Development andMinistry of Housing and Poverty Allevia on.

    Through our Joint Venture (JV) company with Na onal Skill Development Corpora on (NSDC), IL&FSSkills Development Corpora on (ISDC) we are se ng up 100 IL&FS Ins tute of Skills (IIS) and IL&FSSkills Schools (ISC) that will impart world class skills training to 2 million people by 2021.

    The youth of the North Eastern states in India face many challenges when it comesto skills and employment opportuni es. Lack of training infrastructure, constraints inaccessing educa on and thin industry presence, limit the employment opportuni esfor them. Government of India has therefore put a special thrust on providing goodquality skills programs and linkages to jobs for the youth of the region.

    In alignment with this vision, IL&FS Skills launched its second IL&FS Ins tute of

    Skills (IIS) in Shillong, Meghalaya on April 23rd 2013. The IIS was inaugurated byMr. WMS Pariat IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya. He was joined byMr. KN Kumar IAS, Principal Secretary, Community & Rural Development & Fisheries,Ms. L. Kharkongor IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Commerce &Industries and Mr. Shamit Chakravar from the Asian Development Bank.

    Addressing the students and trainers at the launch, Mr. Pariat re-emphasised theurgency for youth to undertake voca onal skills and training to be able to get good job opportuni es both within and outside the state. He highlighted that youth ofthe state were diligent but need linkages with jobs. He also spent me visi ng theexhibi on at the Ins tute which showcased IL&FS Skills’ unique placement linkedskills training methodology, interac ve curriculum and strong industry linkages.

    AICTE and IL&FS collaborate forimplemen ng pilots under NVEQF

    Governor of Lagos State, Africa visitsIL&FS Ins tute of Skills, New Delhi

    His Excellency Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, Governor of Lagos State alongwith other senior delegates visited IL&FS Ins tute of Skills- Okhla in NewDelhi. IL&FS Educa on is now working in Africa to provide skills training,ICT enabled educa on and cluster development solu ons.

    All India Council for Technical Educa on (AICTE) and IL&FS SkillDevelopment Corpora on (ISDC) entered an agreement in response to

    the growing needs of providing skills training in the construc on, telecomsector and automobile engineering sectors under the Na onal Voca onalEduca on Quali ca on Framework (NVEQF).

    The scope of engagement includes, implemen ng skill training programsincluding ToT in tele communica on, mobile communica on, automobileand construc on sectors on a pan India basis.

    Mr. Pallam Raju, Minister of Human Resources Development, Governmentof India, expressed his keenness for the success of NVEQF. He appreciatedthe two ins tu ons for taking the lead in implementa on of thisscheme. He also acknowledged the exemplary work being done by IL&FSEduca on in educa on and skills development. The minister welcomedthe partnership and highlighted the need to leverage the opportunity ofskilling the graduates across disciplines.

    UPDATE

    Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, started its agship skill trainingprogram – Himayat – in Jammu and Kashmir, to address the issue of high rate ofunemployability amongst the Kashmiri youth. IL&FS has been one of the rst partners to

    take part in this program and is currently o ering placement linked skills training programsin Retail, IT and BPO sectors.

    Mr. T K A Nair, Advisor to Prime Minister of India visited IL&FS Skills School at Ganderbal on16 April, 2013. Our IL&FS team took him through the various aspects of the skill school i.e.linkages with companies for jobs, local community, educa on ins tutes and followed by avisit to the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Ins tute (JKEDI).

    Mr. Nair emphasised that youth of the valley needed to be o ered on-the-job training, postplacement support and access to mul media content for s mulated learning experience.

    He complimented IL&FS Skills for following a “learner centric” approach and ensuring thatthe training leaves a long term change in the lives of the candidates.
