Sri Siva Vishnu Temple is pleased to announce that Ayyappa devotees will have an opportunity to come on pilgrimage to our Ayyappa Shrine and climb the 18 Holy Steps this season.

Due to the pandemic, we have implemented several restrictions and safety measures for the safety of the devotees, priests, volunteers and everyone involved. We request that you follow these measures strictly and have a divine experience.

COVID-19 RELATED RESTRICTIONS AND SAFETY MEASURES THAT DEVOTEES MUST ADHERE TO WHILE VISITING THE TEMPLE FOR CLIMBING THE HOLY STEPS. DEVOTEES ARE EXPECTED TO FOLLOW THESE STRICTLY FOR THE SAFETY OF VOLUNTEERS, TEMPLE STAFF, PRIESTS AND EVERYONE INVOLVED.

1. Pre-Registration on the temple website is mandatory for devotees to climb the Holy Steps. Click here for registration and sponsorship https://www.ssvt.org/AyyappaMandalaSponsorship.asp. Please select Irumudi Abhishekam ($31) as sponsorship for climbing the Holy Steps and offering Irumudi for Abhishekam. Each devotee climbing the holy steps should register separately to meet contact tracing requirements due to COVID. Please also consider sponsoring other Ayyyappa Mandala Pujas by selecting under Puja Sponsorship.

2. THERE WILL BE NO IRUMUDI PREPARATION (KETTU NARA) AT THE TEMPLE THIS YEAR. Devotees are required to come to the temple with already prepared Irumudi. Any devotee needing help in preparing the Irumudi, please email ssvt.ayyappa@gmail.com, and one of the senior swamies will be assigned to provide guidance.

3. Deadline for registration each week will be Thursday by 8 pm for climbing the Holy Steps the following Saturday and Sunday.

4. Devotee reporting time to the temple will be notified via email after the registration is completed.

5. Considering the safety of everyone, ONLY devotees who are registered to climb the Holy Steps will be allowed to visit the temple this year during the Special Ayyappa Puja days (8 AM to Noon).

6. Devotees shall refrain from attending social gatherings or house pujas at least 14 days prior to their visit to SSVT.

7. IT IS MANDATORY THAT EVERYONE MUST WEAR A FACE MASK AND MAINTAIN PHYSICAL DISTANCE THROUGHOUT THEIR STAY IN THE TEMPLE. Face shields are highly recommended.

8. Temperature check will be performed on everyone before entering the temple. Please do not visit the temple with body temperature greater than 100° F or with any cold or flu like symptoms.

9. The maximum number of devotees that can climb the Holy Steps is limited to 50 on each Special Ayyappa Puja day.

10. Due to time constraints, walking in the woods (Periya Pathai) will not be allowed this year.

11. Climbing the holy steps will be done by maintaining a physical distance of at least 6 ft.

12. Devotees can have darshan of Neiabhishekam only. All other Abhishekam items from Irumudi bag will be collected and abhishekam will be performed after quarantining them for two weeks.

13. The entire puja will be streamed live online. Devotees after Neiabhishekam can watch the puja online.

14. Ghee from each devotee Irumudi will be collected in an individual cup and handed over to the priest for Neiabhishekam. No collective Neiabhishekam for groups will be performed. Devotees will take back their Ghee after abhishekam is performed, which will be the only prasadam this year. Neiabhishekam to be completed by 11 AM.

15. Darshan is restricted to Ayyappa shrine only, other upstairs areas of the temple will be closed for devotees during the Ayyappa Puja.

16. Anga (Shayana) Pradakshinam and Pettai Thullal cannot be performed this year.

17. Prior to leaving the temple devotees can collect Annadhanam, which will be in pre-packed boxes, and may eat in their cars prior to leaving.

18. Very importantly, due to the ongoing pandemic, temple operations and schedule can change in a very short notice to take additional precautions and to follow CDC, State and County mandated requirements on any given day. Devotees are requested to be flexible to accommodate any such changes.

AYYAPPA MANDALA - MAKAROTSAVAM Austerities and Preparation required for the Pilgrimage to Ayyappa Sannidhi with IrumudiAyyappa Vratham Devotees who wish to go to Sabarimala have to observe vratham (follow certain austerities) for one mandalam (41 days) to purify the mind and soul. On the first day of the month of Karthika/Vrichikam (the middle of November), devotees wear the mudra maala and start the vratham.

Important austerities to be observed during vratham• Observe Brahmacharyam during the vratham • Always start the conversation with “Swami Saranam” • Take shower twice daily and chant the names of Lord Ayyappa • Control your temper and be kind to others • Consume only freshly cooked vegetarian food • Do not smoke or consume alcoholic beverages • Attend Puja either at the temple or wherever conducted • Treat your body, mind and intellect as the abode of Ayyappa

How to prepare irumudi (in brief) After performing Ayyappa Puja, fill the mudra coconut with melted ghee. If you are a Kanni Ayyappan or Kanni Maalikappuram (first timer), Guruswamy will help you to fill the mudra coconut with ghee. Mudra coconut and other Pujaitems must be placed in the front pocket of the Irumudi and the other two coconuts must be placed in the rear pocket. Always keep chanting the names of Lord Ayyappa while preparing the Irumudi. Never place the Irumudi on the floor; always place it on a towel and treat it with Bhakthi.

Panchaloha Kavacham for the 18 Holy StepsPanchaloha Kavacham for the 18 Holy StepsThe original Ayyappa Kumbhabhishekam at SSVT was performed 25 years ago on July 9, 1995. Due to the pandemic we were not able to conduct the 25th Anniversary Celebrations (Hariharaathmaja Mahotsavam) in 2020.

One of the important decisions the Board of Trustees has taken is to install Panchaloha Kavacham for the 18 Holy Steps. We would like to complete this before start of the Hariharaathmaja Mahotsavam, now planned for 2021.

We request the Ayyappa Devotees to contribute generously towards this cause, either Individually or in Groups from various parts of the country.
