Hello everyone!
My name is Maria Haas. I am a Saints Mary & Mathias Catholic School and Muscatine High School Alum; just graduated from Iowa State in Kinesiology and Health. In the future, I would love to become a physical therapist, but the Lord is calling me down a different path for now by saying ‘YES’ to serving as a FOCUS missionary.
FOCUS, stands for Fellowship of Catholic University Students. It’s a non-profit organization that is calling me to serve as a campus missionary at Ball State University, in Muncie, Indiana. I moved onto campus Saturday, July 18 and am slowly getting to know the area.
As a FOCUS missionary, I will be God’s hands to lead individuals to learn how to pray and have a personal relationship with Jesus, grow in virtue, invite them into Bible studies, and be their authentic friend.
Thank you for all of your support throughout these years! Please join me in praying for all souls and know of my prayers for you.

We are so proud of Maria and the work that she will be doing as a FOCUS Missionary. So many young people stop practicing there faith in college. Each year hundreds of FOCUS Missionaries reach out to students on college campuses all around the country, helping them to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. When you support Maria and the other missionaries you, too, are a part of this vital work of ministry! The plan is for Maria to be back home around Thanksgiving, at which time I’ve asked her to plan on making a presentation at all the Masses about her missionary work. Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Saturday, August 15, the Church observes the Solemnity of
the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrating the fact
that our Blessed Mother, at the end of her earthly life, was assumed
body and soul into heaven. For her, the resurrection we await has al-
ready happened. We honor Mary under the title of the Assumption
because she has gone where we hope to go! Ordinarily, the Assump-
tion is a holy day of obligation. Right now, however, due to covid-19,
there is no obligation to attend Mass. But did you know that St. Mary’s
Catholic Church of Muscatine was technically St. Mary of the Assump-
tion Catholic Church? That means that Mary, under the title of the
Assumption, is the co-patron of Saints Mary & Mathias Catholic
Church. Because the Assumption is our co-patron we have the special
privilege of celebrating the Solemnity of the Assumption at all the
weekend Masses August 15 and 16. So, if you are able, please plan to
join us for Mass and honor Our Lady, St. Mary of the Assumption!
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Thursdays, 5:15-5:45pm
Fridays, 12:00-12:30pm and 6:00-6:30pm
Adoration will be held in the main body of the church. Current
Diocesan restrictions mean we must limit these to 30 minutes
each. Please be sure to sanitize you seats before you leave.

LA ASUNCIÓN DE LA SANTÍSIMA VIRGEN MARÍA
El sábado 15 de agosto, la Iglesia observa la solem-
nidad de la Asunción de la Santísima Virgen María,
celebrando el hecho de que nuestra Santísima Madre, al
final de su vida terrenal, fue asumida en el cielo en cuerpo
y alma. Para ella, la resurrección que esperamos ya ha
sucedido. ¡Honramos a María bajo el título de la Asunción
porque ha ido a donde esperamos ir! Normalmente, la
Asunción es un día santo de obligación. En este momento,
sin embargo, debido al covid-19, no hay obligación de
asistir a la misa. Pero, ¿sabía usted que la Iglesia Católica
de Santa María de Muscatine era técnicamente Santa María
de la Asunción Iglesia Católica? Esto significa que María,
bajo el título de Asunción, es la co-patrona de la Iglesia
Católica de Santa María y Matías. Porque la Asunción es
nuestra co-patrona tenemos el privilegio especial de cele-
brar la solemnidad de la Asunción en todas las Misas de fin
