A Note from Fr. Dan ~

With the celebration today of the Baptism of the Lord, the Christ-mas Season in the church comes to a conclusion. May all of us, baptized as God's children, continue to live the hope and joy of Christmas as we enter into Ordinary Time. As school resumes for a 2nd semester, let's keep students, teach-ers, staff and parents in our prayers. We pray for a safe and healthy start to the new semester. The Covid protocols continue to apply to our public celebration of the Eucharist. Please sign-up on-line or call the office to reserve a seat at Mass for the weekends.

The Baptism of the Lord First Reading: (Is 55:1-11) Thus says the LORD: All you who are thirsty, come to the water! You who have no money, come, receive grain and eat; come, without paying and without cost, drink wine and milk! Why spend your money for what is not bread, your wages for what fails to satisfy? Heed me, and you shall eat well, you shall delight in rich fare. Come to me heedfully, listen, that you may have life. I will renew with you the everlasting covenant, the benefits assured to David. As I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander of nations, so shall you summon a nation you knew not,

and nations that knew you not shall run to you, because of the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, who has glorified you.

Seek the LORD while he may be found, call him while he is near. Let the scoundrel forsake his way, and the wicked man his thoughts; let him turn to the LORD for mercy; to our God, who is generous in forgiving. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD. As high as the heavens are above the earth so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts.

For just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down and do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; my word shall not return to me void, but shall do my will, achieving the end for which I sent it.

Responsorial Psalm: (Is 12:2-3, 4bcd, 5-6) R. (3) You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation. God indeed is my savior; I am confident and unafraid. My strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has been my savior. With joy you will draw water at the fountain of salvation. R. You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salva-tion. Give thanks to the LORD, acclaim his name; among the nations make known his deeds, proclaim how exalted is his name.

Second Reading: (1 Jn 5:1-9) Beloved: Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God, and everyone who loves the Father loves also the one begotten by him. In this way we know that we love the children of God when we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith. Who indeed is the victor over the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

This is the one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and blood. The Spirit is the one who testifies, and the Spirit is truth. So there are three that testify, the Spirit, the water, and the blood, and the three are of one accord. If we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is surely greater. Now the testimony of God is this, that he has testified on behalf of his Son.

Alleluia (Cf. Jn 1:29) R. Alleluia, alleluia. John saw Jesus approaching him, and said: Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel (Mk 1:7-11) This is what John the Baptist proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his san-dals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

Primera Lectura: (Is 55, 1-11) Esto dice el Señor: “Todos ustedes, los que tienen sed, vengan por agua; y los que no tienen dinero, vengan, tomen trigo y coman; tomen vino y leche sin pagar. ¿Por qué gastar el dinero en lo que no es pan y el salario, en lo que no alimenta?

Escúchenme atentos y comerán bien, saborearán platillos sustanciosos. Pré-stenme atención, vengan a mí, escúchen-me y vivirán.

Sellaré con ustedes una alianza perpetua, cumpliré las promesas que hice a David. Como a él lo puse por testigo ante los pueblos, como príncipe y soberano de las naciones, así tú reunirás a un pueblo desconocido, y las naciones que no te conocían acudirán a ti, por amor del Señor, tu Dios, por el Santo de Israel, que te ha honrado.

Busquen al Señor mientras lo pueden en-contrar, invóquenlo mientras está cer-ca;que el malvado abandone su camino, y el criminal, sus planes; que regrese al Señor, y él tendrá piedad; a nuestro Dios, que es rico en perdón.

Mis pensamientos no son los pensamien-tos de ustedes, sus caminos no son mis caminos. Porque así como aventajan los cielos a la tierra, así aventajan mis cami-nos a los de ustedes y mis pensamientos a sus pensamientos.

Como bajan del cielo la lluvia y la nieve y no vuelven allá, sino después de empa-par la tierra, de fecundarla y hacerla germinar, a fin de que dé semilla para sembrar y pan para comer, así será la palabra que sale de mi boca: no volverá a mí sin resultado, sino que hará mi voluntad y cumplirá su misión’’

R Sacarán agua con gozo de la fuente de la salvación. Alaben al Señor por sus proezas, anúncienlas a toda la tier-ra. Griten jubilosos, habitantes de Sión, porque el Dios de Israel ha sido grande con ustedes. R. R Sacarán agua con gozo de la fuente de la salvación. Segunda Lectura: (1 Jn 5, 1-9) Queridos hijos: Todo el que cree que Jesús es el Mesías, ha nacido de Dios. Todo el que ama a un padre, ama también a los hijos de éste. Conoce-mos que amamos a los hijos de Dios en que amamos a Dios y cumplimos sus mandamientos, pues el amor de Dios consiste en que cumplamos sus preceptos. Y sus mandamientos no son pesados, porque todo el que ha nacido de Dios vence al mundo. Y nuestra fe es la que nos ha dado la victoria sobre el mundo. Porque, ¿quién es el que vence al mundo? Sólo el que cree que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios.

Jesucristo es el que vino por medio del agua y de la sangre; él vino, no sólo con agua, sino con agua y con sangre. Y el Espíritu es el que da testimonio, porque el Espíritu es la verdad. Así pues, los testigos son tres: el Espíritu, el agua y la sangre. Y los tres están de acuerdo.

Si aceptamos el testimonio de los hombres, el testimonio de Dios vale mucho más y ese testimonio es el que Dios ha dado de su Hijo.

Aclamación antes del Evangelio (Cfr Jn 1, 29) R. Aleluya, aleluya. Vio Juan el Bautista a Jesús, que venía hacia él, y exclamó: “Éste es el Cordero de Dios, el que quita el pecado del mundo”. R. Aleluya. Evangelio (Mc 1, 7-11) En aquel tiempo, Juan predicaba dic-iendo: “Ya viene detrás de mí uno que es más poderoso que yo, uno ante quien no merezco ni siquiera incli-narme para desatarle la correa de sus sandalias. Yo los he bautizado a ustedes con agua, pero él los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo”.

Por esos días, vino Jesús desde Naza-ret de Galilea y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán. Al salir Jesús del agua, vio que los cielos se rasgaban y que el Espíritu, en figura de paloma, descendía sobre él. Se oyó entonces una voz del cielo que decía: “Tú eres mi Hijo amado; yo tengo en ti mis complacencias”.

IRA owned by an age 70 ½ or over taxpayer that would

otherwise be taxable that is paid directly from the IRA to a

qualified charity. You avoid paying taxes on the distribu-

tion and your donation supports your parish. We have

several parishioners who have chosen to donate to St. Am-

brose through a QCD to take advantage of the tax bene-

fit. This may be used in place of your regular Sunday

giving or in addition to your normal contribution. For

more information, please talk to your financial advisor or

call the parish office.
