My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!
This year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of Our Heavenly Mother’s apparitions at Fatima during which she revealed that God wishes devotion to her Immaculate Heart to be established in the world, and that it would be the key to the salvation of souls and world peace. A century is a long time, and it might seem as though society has gone downhill to such an extent that, even if people do start to pay more attention to Fatima today, the battle is too far gone to be won. But that would be the wrong attitude to take, since in reality, the war, however long it takes, has already been won. Today we are keenly aware that enormous numbers of souls are engaged in all manner of unspeakable sinful behavior which places the salvation of their souls in peril; and world peace remains an elusive dream. But when Our Lady said at Fatima, “In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph … and a period of peace will be granted to the world,” she meant it! Our Lady of Fátima, formally known as Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fátima, appeared in 1917 to three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria, in Fátima, Portugal — Lúcia Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto. Between May 13th and October 13th, 1917, the children reported a total of six apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the final apparition coincided with the famous “Miracle of the Sun,” when tens of thousands of people saw the sun appearing to change colors and rotating like a wheel, a kind of the “sun’s dance,” which was visible up to 24 miles away. One of the fruits of these apparitions was the devotion of the First Saturday Communions of Reparation. Our Lady says, “I promise to assist at the hour of death, with the graces necessary for salvation, all those who on the first Saturday of five consecutive months shall (1) confess, (2) receive Holy Communion, (3) recite five decades of the Rosary, and (4) keep me company for 15 minutes while meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the intention of making reparation to me.” What a magnificent promise of Our Lady: that she would assist us with the graces needed for salvation at the most important moment of our lives — the moment of our death. Do we not pray to her for this every time we pray the Hail Mary: “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death?” This is done for FIVE consecutive First Saturdays, and as Jesus said to Sister Lucia: “My daughter, the motive is simple – there are 5 ways in which people offend and blaspheme against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” So, for the ...
…1st FIRST SATURDAY – to make reparation for blasphemies against the Immaculate Conception. …2nd FIRST SATURDAY – to make reparation for blasphemies against Our Lady’s perpetual virginity. …3rd FIRST SATURDAY – to make reparation for blasphemies against Our Lady’s Divine Maternity by those who refuse, at the same, time to accept her as the Mother of all mankind. …4th FIRST SATURDAY – to make reparation for the sins of those who try publicly to implant in children’s hearts indifference, contempt and even hate against our Immaculate Mother. …5th FIRST SATURDAY – to make reparation for those who insult Our Lady directly in her sacred images.
The ideal is on the first Saturday itself. Seldom do the Rosary and 15 additional minutes of meditation on its mysteries pose a problem. The Confession and reception of Holy Communion, however, are often difficult and sometimes impossible. Divine Mercy is generous in this regard. Our Lord’s final words to Sister Lucia during the last of the apparitions pertaining to this devotion dealt with its proper practice. Jesus told her that those who could not accomplish all the requirements of the devotion on Saturdays could do so on the Sundays following. Reception of Holy Communion during a Vigil Mass on a first Saturday fulfills this requirement when making reparation to Mary’s Immaculate Heart is intended. The Confession can be made up to eight days before, or as soon after the first Saturday as possible. Jesus told Lucia that, if the intention was forgotten during a Confession after the first Saturday, it could be done at the next Confession taking advantage of the first opportunity. The Church, to which Fatima has been entrusted through the keys given by Jesus to Peter, and mirroring His disposition of accommodation in difficult circumstances, discourages too strict an application of insignificant details in the practice of such devotions. And even if you have already completed five consecutive First Saturdays, Our Lady encourages all of us to continue the practice monthly for the conversion of sinners and reparation for sin, that we pray, do penance and make sacrifices in reparation for the sins of poor souls who are headed for hell. The Blessed Mother suffered great sorrows, particularly through the bitter Passion and death of her Son. Our Lord wanted his mother honored for all she suffered for him and with him, and desired devotion to Her Immaculate Heart. Remember, world peace depends on converting sinners! When we love our neighbor as ourselves, we want them saved and in Heaven; therefore, our acts of reparation are acts of mercy toward those who are in danger of losing so great a reward. Reparation is an act of mercy! Let us do the spiritual as well as corporal works of mercy! Our Lady told us “many people go to hell because they have no one to offer sacrifices for them.” It is an act of mercy and love toward God to desire that others be saved. Doing this should become part of the very fabric of every day of our lives.
In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that our heavenly Father knows all that we need, and so we should let tomorrow take care of itself as today has troubles enough of its own.
Did you know?
40% of the things worried about will never occur. 30% of the things that people worry about are in the past.
12% is needless worry. 10% is petty, miscellaneous worries.

Let us pray for the pure devotion to give Jesus our best instead of selling him short in our daily lives. Let us pray to put Him first and refuse to let other
things get in the way. But most of all, let us use today as an opportunity to re-flect on our sinfulness and shortcomings with faith in the knowledge the Jesus
forgives and gives life even to those broken and wounded by sin.

Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us, too, at the office, ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves us!
A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT
SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION CATECHUMENATE
The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.
BAPTISM OF CHILDREN We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT MARRIAGE
Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.
ORDERS Those seeking assistance in discerning a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to call the parish offices.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING RECONCILIATION
Reconciliation is available each Saturday afternoon, 3:00pm, Wednesday evening, 5:45-6:45pm, through seasonal communal services, and by appointment.
ANOINTING Anointing of the Sick is offered through seasonal services, and always by request. If hospitalized, please immediately seek anointing from the Catholic chaplain.
I would like to have my house blessed. Please contact me to make arrangements.
