Many Blessings . . .

"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Fa-ther who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 I recently read the following quote on, of all places, a tea bag: “Live light, travel light, spread the light, and be the light.” Then that next Sunday, the readings and homily were about “seeking the light in the Lord.” I believe God reaches out to us in different ways, but His message is always about being good Christians. God finds a way to light our path along our spiritual journey, and if we acknowledge the light and follow it, we can help spread all that is good and righteous and truthful. Travelling and living light means we live simply, using God’s word to guide us. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105. It is through His word we learn how to live like disciples of Jesus. Also, I don’t believe we can spread the light without being the light. If we can’t be good role models, how are other people supposed to respect what we are say-ing? Leading by example is living in the light. I re-cently saw a comedian doing a physically funny stunt, trying to outrun the spotlight on stage but couldn’t quite escape it. It reminds me that sometimes darkness comes, but God is right there following us, saying I am right here by your side and you are not going to shake Me. His love for us is forgiving and never-ending. So let’s all embrace the light within and let it shine out-ward so we can live, learn, and lead together as God’s disciples. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill can-not be hidden. Matthew 5:14

So That You May Believe It is not often that the author of one of the books of the Bible comes right out and tells us directly why he is writing what he is writing. In this Sunday’s Gospel read-ing, taken from the conclusion of John’s Gospel, the au-thor tells us that he has chosen to record these events so “that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name” (20:31). The letter of John echoes this idea by saying that “[e]veryone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God” (5:1)—what we might refer to as being “born again.” Our reading from the Acts of the Apostles for this Second Sunday of Easter shows us exactly what it looks like when believers are born again through faith.

Are you interested in joining our SPRED Ministry but are unsure what they do? You are invited to

observe a session at the Archdiocesan SPRED Center in Chicago, Monday, April 30, from 7:00-9:30 p.m. St. Ann is planning a carpool to this observation.

Please call the Parish Office at 895-6700 if interested.

Parishioners with intellectual and developmental disa-bilities and learning problems from the age of six to well into their 80s are served through various Archdio-cese SPRED programs which help participants become more aware of the presence of God in their lives. At St. Ann, we serve adult residents from LARC ages 22 and older. We are in need of adult men and women who want to grow in their faith and be a friend to one person from LARC within a small faith group of eight volun-teers and six friends who learn from each other, and experience joy, laughter, prayer and hope and fellow-ship. As per the current leader, Annette Leber, our SPRED volunteers are retiring and need others to take their places in continuing this faith community. No prior experience is needed to become a volunteer and training is provided. The group meets September to June.

Dear Friends,

Outside, the flowers are beginning to bloom, the birds are singing, and the hearts of our children are full of happi-ness. It’s all put there to remind us of God’s great love. Spring makes everything new. It is a time of hope and joy. May each of you be blessed beyond measure this wonderful Easter Season!

The BUZZZZZ on the Spelling Bee On Wednesday, March 28, several SAS students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades com-peted along with students from Oak Glen, Coolidge, Reavis, and Nathan Hale in the Lansing Community Spelling Bee held at Oak Glen Elementary School. Con-gratulations to Gianna Hillegonds, who finished 2nd among the 5th graders, and Skye Simmons, who came in 3rd among the 3rd graders. I am so proud of all of the boys and girls who made it to the competition! Your con-fidence and stage presence was just amazing and you should all be very proud of yourselves!

Student Council Supports St. Ann School Mission A recur-ring theme has been circulating around SAS this year: ”College and Career Ready!” and “Your Path to College Starts Here!” The 8th grade Student Council exec. board members have been working with me on ways to pro-mote positive leadership within our school and make us an institution focused on creating students that are both college bound and heaven bound. They collaborated on writing a letter that was then sent to over 40 colleges and universities requesting pennants from each so that we may surround ourselves with higher education inspira-tion from PreK all the way to 8th grade. The path to col-lege starts RIGHT HERE at St. Ann School! So far, we have received a dozen pennants. Would you be willing to help us by sending in a pennant from the school you at-tended or dreamed of at-tending? Thank you for your ongoing support of our leaders of tomorrow!

Have a lovely week,

Kelly Rojas, SAS Principal

GOOD NEIGHBOR DAY PARADE, MAY 5 Celebrating Lansing’s 125th Anniversary:

From 1893 to 2018 and Everything In Between!

After many years of creativity and countless hours of skilled devo-tion to building our St. Ann floats for the Good Neighbor Day Pa-rade, Mr. Scheppe has retired. We are so grateful for all of his help and dedication!

A small group has formed to take over the coordination of our parade entry for this year. We have already registered as a dec-orated vehicle (not a float) with accompanying walkers and will learn our position soon. We need more people to help determine our theme, decorate, and organize the walkers--we will continue to recruit participants through school and church. This is a per-fect opportunity for a social or service group, or even a family to work on a fun project that will benefit the entire parish! Please join us at the meeting on Tuesday, April 10, or call the Parish Office at 708.895.6700 FMI or to volunteer. Thank you!

Lansing’s 9th Annual Community

Clean-Up Day Saturday, April 28, 10:00 a.m. - Noon

The Village invites all local clubs, associations, business-es and concerned citizens to take part in helping keep Lansing clean! Form a group with family, friends, and neighbors, or participate individually. You can choose a clean-up location or have one assigned to you; garbage bags and a limited supply of gloves will be provided (please bring gloves if you have them). A BBQ lunch will be provided at First Church (across Ridge Road from Village Hall) for all volunteers after the work is done. You must register for this event either online at www.villageoflansing.org or by calling Vivian at 708-895-7207. It’s important to register so the Village knows where to pick up the litter your group collects and so we have a head count for lunch. Community Clean-Up Day will take place rain or shine, so dress for the weather of the day.
