GOD’S ACTIONS NOW When Jews celebrate the Passover, they always tell the story of the Exodus in present terms, as if they them-selves experienced those events: when we were prisoners in Egypt; when God brought us out of slavery and through the waters of the sea. We would do well to follow their example and see the works of Jesus and his sacrifice as being in the present, as happening to us now. We be-lieve that Christ’s work, his teachings, and his sacrifice on the cross were not just for his followers in the past, but for all people at all times. When we think of this in our prayers, we become one in faith with that great cloud of witnesses, the saints. We have been striving through Lent to repent of our sins and failings, and to follow Jesus more closely. Today in the story of the woman caught in adultery, we see Jesus forgiving the woman, saving her from a horrible death, and urging her not to sin any more. This is new, and brings out something for which the law had not allowed—forgiveness. Of course one can sin no more if one is dead, caught in one’s sins forever. But Jesus introduces the con-cepts of forgiveness and reconciliation. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

LAS ACCIONES DE DIOS AHORA Cuando los judíos celebran la Pascua, ellos siempre

cuentan la historia del Éxodo en términos presentes, como si ellos mismos hubieran pasado por esa experiencia: cuando fuimos prisioneros en Egipto, cuando Dios nos liberó de la esclavitud e cruzamos por las aguas del mar. Haríamos bien en seguir su ejemplo y ver las obras de Jesús y su sacrificio como si fuera en el presente, pasán-donos ahora. Creemos que las obras de Cristo, sus ense-ñanzas y su sacrificio en la cruz no solo fueron por sus seguidores de su tiempo, sino por todas las personas en todo tiempo. Cuando pensamos en esto en nuestras ora-ciones, nos hacemos una sola fe con la gran nube de testi-gos, los santos. Nos hemos esforzado a través de esta Cuaresma para arrepentirnos de nuestros pecados y faltas, y seguir a Jesús más cercanamente. En la historia de hoy de la mujer descubierta en adulterio, vemos a Jesús perdonar a la mu-jer, salvándola de una muerte horrible y exhortándola a no pecar más. Esto es nuevo y revela algo que la ley no había permitido, el perdón. Desde luego, uno después de muerto ya no puede pecar, descubierto en los pecados de uno para siempre. Stewardship

“Your light must shine before all so that they may see goodness in your acts.” (Matthew 5:16). Giving of our time, talent and treasure mainly involves a change of attitude about giving. It’s important to think in terms of giving in gratitude to God, of considering how blessed we are, of using our gifts and talents for the good of others. In the area of time and talent, many individuals commit a certain number each week to prayer and charitable activities. In the area of treasure, Christians should try to work towards the biblical norm of giving 10 percent of their treasure, 5 percent to their parish, 1 percent to the bishop’s annual ap-peal and the remaining 4 percent to other charities. Because of many circumstances, individuals can start at two, three or four percent, and work upwards. “Debe brillar su luz ante los hombres, para que vean sus buenas obras” (Mateo 5:16) Dando su tiempo, talento y tesoro principal-mente envuelve un cambio de actitud respec-to a la acción de dar. Es importante pensar en términos de dar en agradecimiento a Dios, de considerar cuan bendecidos somos, de usar nuestros dones y talentos para el bien del prójimo. En el área de tiempo y talento, muchas personas comprometen cierto de numero de horas semanalmente para la ora-ción y actividades caritativas. En el área de tesoro, los Cristianos deben tratar de trabajar hacia la norma bíblica de dar el 10 porciento de su tesoro: 5 porciento a su parroquia, 1 porciento al llamado anual del obispo y el restante 4 porciento a otras caridades. Debi-do a muchas circunstancias, las personas pueden empezar con 2, 3 o 4 porciento e ir ascendiendo.

Kids Carnival Donations Kids Carnival will be Sunday April 28th. We are accepting donations of bottled water, soda can or bottle, and bottled juices. We are also accepting donations for any disposable plates, plastic forks, spoons, and nap-kins. Items can be dropped off at the parish office Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

Reception of Communion

In the United States, the body of Bishops determined that Com-munion should be received standing, and that bow is the act of reverence made by those receiving. The bow is made while the person in front of you is receiving communion, NOT when you approach the priest or communion minister. The significance of unity in posture and gesture as a symbol of our unity as mem-bers of the one body of Christ should be the governing factor in our own actions. Those who receive Communion may receive either in the hand or on the tongue, and the decision should be that of the individual receiving, not of the person distributing Communion. If communion is received in the hand, the hands should first of all be clean. If one is right handed the left hand should rest upon the right. The host will then be laid in the palm of the left hand and then taken by the right hand to the mouth. If one is left-handed this is reversed. It is not appropriate to reach out with the fingers and take the host from the person distribut-ing. En los Estados Unidos, la mesa de Obispos que la Comunión debe recibirse de pie, y una reverencia se hace de respeto al recibir la comunión. Se hace reverencia cuando la persona que esta frente a usted recibe la comunión, no cuando se acerca al sacerdote o al ministro de la comunión. El significado de la unidad en la postura y gesto es el símbolo de nuestra unidad como miembros del cuerpo de Cristo debe ser el factor que go-bierna nuestras propias acciones.
