Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 1, 2017

Have in you the same attitude that is also in Christ Jesus.

— Philippians 2:5

GOD’S WAYS In the stream of readings during this por-tion of Ordinary Time one week’s texts can often appear to pick up exactly where the previous week’s concluded. The sentiments expressed in today’s first reading seem to be a direct reaction to the Gospel passage we heard last week. In that Gospel, the landown-er pays the same wages to his workers whether they worked for a full day or for on-ly a few minutes. Today Ezekiel gives us the lament, “The LORD’s way is not fair!”(Ezekiel 18:25). These Sundays in Or-dinary Time offer us a glimpse into the ways of the Lord. We see how God’s way has the tendency to turn the accepted conventions of the day upside down. Those who always ex-pected that their way to heaven was guaran-teed are disappointed. Those who thought they never had a chance are given that chance. Today offers us another opportunity to discover the abundance of God’s mercy and love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — When the wicked turn away from their wickedness they have com-mitted and do what is right, they shall surely live (Ezekiel 18:25-28). Psalm — Remember your mercies, O Lord (Psalm 25). Second Reading — Consider others as bet-ter than yourselves; look not to your own in-terests, but to the interests of others (Philippians 2:1-11 [1-5]). Gospel — Tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you (Matthew 21:28-32). Update on St. Bridget Cemetery Mausoleum When the time comes, where will I be buried? Have I made plans for that? How will my loved ones know my wishes? These are questions that we will all have to answer one day. What would you do if something happened in your family tomorrow? We don’t like to think about those things and much less discuss the subject, but death is inevitable. Getting your burial space ahead of time is good family plan-ning.

If you buy now, you have choices. There are three different types of doubles, four different levels, also family units. There are different options for pay-ment as well. The moment you sign up you are cov-ered. The main thing is that you have the opportunity as husband and wife, and perhaps your entire family, to do your planning together in the privacy of your own home. Taking care of these plans now is a lot easier than to do so following a death.

Representatives Ronnie Thibodeaux, Joe Blanchard, Tommy Lyons and Keith Melerine from American Cemetery Consultants, are now available to meet at your home or in Didier hall to answer questions about the mausoleum and help you to choose the option that is right for you. The num-ber of crypts selected before construction will deter-mine the final size of the mausoleum. Anyone want-ing information should either mail in the postage paid reply card from the brochure that was mailed to your home or call 985-400-2499

The Catholic Daughters meet on October12 at 7 pm in the Community Life Annex. All are Welcome.

As St. Bridget Parish, we are privileged to have an Adoration Chapel, an oppor-tunity for us to be and experience the real presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Not every parish has this privilege and gift. Let us therefore treasure and pat-ronize it by using it. Let us develop the an-cient Catholic habit of making visits to the Blessed Sacrament. It is available during daylight hours or a key fob can be obtained from the office for nighttime hours.

Thanks to all for your generosity and prayers.

Saturday Morning Mass!

Saturday morning (Daily Mass) is being prayed beginning at 8:30 am. Immedi-ately following the mass, the “Why We Believe” series is being held in the Community Life Annex. Come celebrate with us.

Guidelines for Baptism

Prior to baptizing a child, the parents and God-parents must attend a baptismal seminar. The next baptismal seminar will be held October 11 at 6:30 pm in the Annex. Those seeking to baptize a child can complete the registration forms in the office Monday—Friday between 8 am and 3 pm. The office must be made aware of the desire to baptize a child and desire to attend the seminar. The registra-tion form can also be found at the parish web-site, stbridget-htdiocese.org, and emailed to the parish through the “Contact Us” link.

While the Church only requires one qualified Godparent for a child to be baptized, two God-parents may be chosen, although in this case one must be male and one female. Anyone who is to be a Godparent must meet the qualifi-cations established by the Church, which are as follows. Godparents must have received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist, and be practicing Catholics, at least 16 years old who lead a life in harmony with the faith. If married, the proposed Godparents must be in a marriage recognized by the Church. If not mar-ried, they must not be simulating marriage by living with someone.
