Danielle Bundy, in our 4th grade, will personally meet Pope Francis next Wednesday! Danielle and her family will be flying to Rome this Saturday with plans to visit Pope Francis on Wednesday. Danielle is a participant in the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Danielle’s wish of meeting the Pope has been kindly granted! Danielle will carry to Rome a card signed by all of her 4th grade classmates as a gift for Pope Francis. We are also sending a small San Damiano Crucifix for blessing by the Pope to be brought back to school and framed and displayed for years to come. Please keep in your prayers Danielle, her Family, Pope Francis, and all associated with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We are very happy for Danielle and Family, and very impressed with her humble, faith-filled wish of meeting Pope Francis. In closing, we have concluded ISTEP+ testing and IREAD3 testing. I want to thank our Sr. Genevieve, our teachers, and our students for all of their preparation, administration, and effort in this endeavor. A great deal of effort on everyone’s part is always required to help students succeed on the test. I am thankful that we have good people in place to make a positive difference, and I am thankful that we have good students in the seats who give strong effort. Thanks – Rob S. The Diocese will host a Pueri Cantores music festival on Tuesday, March 25 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Fort Wayne. Through the organization of the diocesan Catholic Schools Office and the Office of Worship, singers were invited from every parochial school and Catholic high school in the diocese. Students rehearsed locally since October and have had several regional rehearsals at the high schools. On Tuesday, March 25th over 400 students will join together. The students learned new and challenging music. The festival includes two large rehearsals at the Cathedral and a Festival Mass presided by Bishop Rhodes. NEWSLETTER STAPLING SCHEDULE March 27, Thursday: Molly Tippmann, Karen Bougher, Kelly Kohlmeyer SCRIP Congratulations Lucky Winners! – Congratulations to all our “lucky” winners in our “Pots of Gold” giveaway. Sean Offerle, Colleen Jacobson, Erica Kelker, Bev Ade, Stephanie Eddy, and Noe Rivera each won a pot of gold containing either a $25 or $100 Meijer gift card. They qualified simply by placing an order of $100 or more during St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The promotions are our way of saying “thank you” to all who support the SCRIP program. The SCRIP program is a parish fund raising program. It helps to provide things for the parish that would not be possible based on weekly collections. It was very instrumental in building the Kindergarten wing of our school. It is one of the reasons the parish is able to subsidize the school, keeping tuition as low as possible. You can earn tuition credit through your SCRIP purchases. The credit never expires and can be used for any school, even college. You can think of it as a way, not just to earn tuition credit, but a way to say thank you to the parish for it’s commitment to provide a quality Catholic education. It is our hope that someday, every parishioner, especially our school families, will realize the ease and benefits of using SCRIP. Spring Break – Even though it seems that winter just won’t go away, Spring Break is almost here, it begins next Friday, March 28. SCRIP sales will take place next week on Thursday, March 27 then not again until Saturday, April 5. Be sure to plan ahead and stock up on SCRIP for all your gas and grocery needs as well as gift cards for dining, entertainment and shopping. Great Lakes SCRIP will be closed for their Spring Break the week after our break, April 7-11. If there are special order items that you are planning to order, know that they must be placed by Monday, March 24. We will not have an opportunity to order again until Monday, April 14. Spring Sacraments – If you have someone who will be receiving one of the sacraments this spring – Baptism or Confirmation in RCIA, Confirmation, or First Communion, know that we have gift certificates to most of the religious goods stores. We carry Abba House, All Saints, and The Cathedral Bookstore; and Family Christian can be special ordered. They have many beautiful gifts to help commemorate the occasion for your special someone. VOLUNTEERS – We truly appreciate our wonderful volunteers that have braved the terrible driving conditions to pick up local inventory and travel to fulfill their commitment to work at SCRIP sales. Thanks to our Saturday and Sunday teams that endure the freezing temperatures to assist with cash sales. We can’t thank you enough; you are the key to SCRIP’s success. Family members may attend the same game at a discounted rate. Parents will be responsible for their own children to and from the ballpark and during the game. This is not a school field trip! Each student, grades K-8, who fulfilled his/her reading goal for the third quarter will receive this baseball ticket order form. PARENTS MUST SEND IN THE ORDER FORM BY THE DATE STATED ON THE ORDER FORM, APRIL 21, 2014, in order to be seated with the rest of St. Charles students and staff. Send the form to the TinCaps office. I am very proud of and would like to give praise to all of our students for the fantastic effort each of them has put into reading this third quarter! I am amazed at the number of points our school has accumulated! The number of AR points acquired this quarter has exceeded every other quarter of this school year! First quarter of this year, students earned 11,206 AR points. Third quarter, students earned 13,184 AR points! (Beating last year’s third quarter record!) There was one homeroom in which every student earned his/her required AR points! That room was 3-9, Miss McKenna’s room! Congrats to room 3-9 for all students in the entire room receiving the required AR points!!! Many rooms came very close in this 100% goal! Thank you, parents, for the encouragement you have given your children with their reading efforts! I will see you at the game! Barb Fisher, Librarian
