Stewardship Reflection

St. Faustina Parish is a community of Roman Catholics Inspired by the Holy Spirit called to reflect God’s Divine Mercy,

to foster spiritual growth, and attend to the temporal and spiritual needs of all God’s people.

In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus continues His instruction on the Eucharist. Many of his own disciples cannot accept His

teachings and instead return to their former way of life, abandoning Christ altogether. Jesus turns to the Apostles and asks them to choose with the question, “Do you also want to leave?” Peter speaks up for the Twelve responding, “Master, to Whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” The demands of a stewardship way of life can be difficult. And the teachings of Christ

can be hard to accept. How can we keep going when it gets tough? Peter’s honest answer to the choice Jesus poses shows us a way to stay true to a stewardship way of life. Looking at himself and the world around him, Peter comes to a realization. To paraphrase, he says, “I don’t really see any bet-ter options, Lord. I’ve tried life with you and it’s hard. But I’ve tried life without You and it’s harder — it doesn’t satisfy. Where else am I going to go? I choose You, Lord.” Peter knows he doesn’t have all the answers. And, so, he humbly chooses to rely on God. When the going gets tough, we can keep going by relying on God and trusting more deeply in Him. Remembering blessings and relying on Him — these are two keys to a beautiful way of life.

Father Ramon’s

Message

Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. (Jn 6:67-68) This gospel episode wraps us the 'Bread of Life' discourse from John's gospel. After Jesus proclaimed himself and his flesh and blood as the 'bread of life' for the world, the disci-ples began to disperse in two directions: some are moving away from Jesus and his teachings as they can't fully com-prehend and take the fact about Jesus' dying and self-offering; the rest are, like Peter, clinging back to Jesus for he has the 'words of eternal life.' Turning away from the Lord in our daily lives entails our en-gagement with sin and with values contrary to a Christian way of living. This happens to everyone, whether ordained or lay. We have been reminded of the weaknesses within the church ranks as in the latest media coverage on clergy sexu-al abuse cases in Pennsylvania and around the world. Have we been taking seriously the implications of what Jesus pro-claimed about himself as the bread of life? Are we willing to be like him - with that willingness to be broken and shared physically and spiritually - that others may be saved? St. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians talks about the neces-sity of subordinating ourselves to one another for the sake of Jesus Christ. Particularized in the context of a married rela-tionship, subordination can be misunderstood as blind obedi-ence to the whims of the other person. But when seen in the context of Jesus' love for the church and his desire to make the best of the church then we can embrace more fully the message of self-giving as self-offering for the good of every-one. A big THANK YOU to all who've donated for the upkeep and maintenance of the rectory landscape. We have collected $1,000.00. Special thanks to Hazel and Fred Rice for donat-ing and installing kick plates to the screened lanai at the rectory! Be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ. (Eph 5:21)

YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR PARISH MINISTRY FAIR the weekend of September 15-16. The fair will take place 30 minutes BEFORE and AFTER each Mass during that week-end. Tables for five ministry categories will be located in the church: 3 tables in front by the sanctuary and two by the gift shop and altar servers' room. There will be representatives of the various ministries to answer any question related to the ministry(ies) you are interested in. For COMPLETE information on the event, please go to our web site: www.stfaustina.org and click on the MINISTRY FAIR link.

THE 2019 MASS INTENTION BOOK WILL BE OPEN FOR SCHEDULING ON Tuesday, Sept. 4th at 10 AM. Reminder of the new procedures we had to install back in March of 2017 in order to be fair to all. Because we have grown

somewhat, Parishioners/requesters may offer NO MORE than 3 Masses per month. Requesters are only permitted ONE intention per month on the WEEKEND, and 2 intentions per month on weekdays. Masses must be paid for at time they are put in the book. If someone calls to “hold a date”, there is no guarantee it will be held for more than 5 business days. Customary offering of $10.00 per intention must be in hands of parish office to finalize scheduling. Only one intention per Mass unless from same family (no more than 3 names) and approved by Pastor. Again, to be fair to all, this is done on a first come/first serve basis. Preferred manner of scheduling is to come to parish office. NO PRIVATE INTENTIONS will be scheduled on Christmas, Easter, Mother’s & Father’s Day, All Souls day, Thanksgiving Day, Holy Thursday and any others blocked off by Pastor. Due to Pastor’s Obligation to offer Mass for the Parishioners weekly, there will be one weekend Mass set aside for that on a rotating basis. Please be understanding of the need for these procedures and be kind to the staff.
