Views from Fr. Larry Pichard, Pastor

In addition to Confessions next Thursday and Friday evenings and Saturday afternoon, all parishes in the Diocese of Dallas will offer a special evening of the Sacrament of Reconciliation next Wednesday. Most parishes will start at 7:00 pm, but because we have so many parishioners at St. Francis, we will start at 6:00 pm. (The regular 6:30 pm Mass on Wednesday will be cancelled.) Please remember that since there will be long lines, don’t look upon that opportunity as counselling or spiritual direction. All you need to do is to confess your major sins. The Church has always taught that mortal sins must be confessed in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, but venial sins can be forgiven when we pray the Penitential Rite of the Mass, by saying the Lord’s Prayer, by reciting the “Lord, I am not Worthy” prayer before Communion, and certainly by the reception of the Body and the Blood of the Lord. Join us for Mercy Monday when Father Stephen Sanchez will speak to us about the theme “Mercy to the Outsider.” Fr. Stephen is a Carmelite priest in Dallas. The Carmelites were founded shortly before the time of St. Francis of Assisi around the turn of the 12th century. Although they originated at Mount Carmel located in the Holy Land in the far northwest corner, right by the Syrian border and overlooking the Mediterranean, they had to flee because of Muslim threats (sounds familiar!), and they resettled in Europe (sounds familiar!). Dedicated to contemplation, community and service, they have produced great saints and spiritual writers such as St. Teresa de Avila, St. John of the Cross, St Thérèse of Lisieux, and Sister Lucia to whom Our Lady of Fatima appeared. Fr. Stephen will draw upon such wisdom as he speaks to us of God’s mercy. Next weekend is Palm Sunday! What? Where did Lent go? Plan on joining us for Holy Week, the most spiritual time of the year. If you didn’t make much progress in Lent, Holy Week is the time to draw near to Jesus.

Visiones del Párroco, Pbro. Larry Pichard

DOMINGO DE PASCUA: Iglesia: 6:30 a.m. St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church—Frisco, TX

HOLY WEEK 2016 ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY No 6:30 p.m. Masses this week. TUESDAY 5:30 p.m. Mass of Chrism at the Cathedral Guadalupe. Everybody is invited to join with our bishops and priests of the diocese and many laity in celebrating the blessing of the holy oils of catechumens, sick and chrism. 2215 Ross (intersection of Ross and Pearl in downtown Dallas). No regular Adoration 7:00—9:00 p.m. at Saint Francis.

WEDNESDAY 16 AND 23 6:00 p.m.—9:00 p.m. Bishop Farrell designed this opportunity for Confessions at every church in our diocese this even-

ing mainly for those who have been away from the church for a long time. We do not want those coming back to the church to be discouraged from long wait times for reconciliation, so we are asking our regular parishioners to please attend one of our other Confession times on all Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays of Lent. We have a limited number of priests hearing Confessions on this night.

HOLY THURSDAY No Confessions today. 8:30 a.m. Morning Prayer in the Chapel. No 6:30 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. Mass. 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Lord’s Supper (Bilingual). After Mass, we invite you to spend an hour with the Lord. Adoration

will take place in our Chapel immediately following Mass until midnight.

GOOD FRIDAY: Day of Fasting (less food) and Abstinence (no meat) No Confessions today. 8:30 a.m. Morning Prayer in the Chapel. No 8:30 a.m. Mass. 3:00 p.m. Celebration of the Lord’s Passion in Spanish in the Church. This includes the solemn reading of the Pas-

sion, the veneration of the cross and Communion. This will be followed by a Passion play in Spanish, in the west park-ing lot.

7:00 p.m. Celebration of the Lord’s Passion in English in the Church. This includes the solemn reading of the Passion, the veneration of the cross and Communion.

HOLY SATURDAY No Confessions today—everybody should have been reconciled before Holy Thursday. 8:30 a.m. Morning Prayer in the Chapel. No 8:30 a.m. Mass. 9:00 a.m. Blessing of Easter Baskets in the Chapel. 8:30 p.m. Easter Vigil in the Church. According to Church regulations this service cannot begin till dark. It includes

the service of the lighting of the fire and the Paschal Candle, the long proclamation of the Word, the sacraments of ini-tiation of catechumens and candidates for full communion with the Catholic Church, and the liturgy of the Eucharist. It is a long service—3 hours—so if you are looking for a quick Easter Mass, don’t come to this one! But if you want to witness the most beautiful liturgy of the year, come and really celebrate the Resurrection! . This Mass will be bilingual.

EASTER SUNDAY: Church: 6:30 a.m. Bilingual, 8:00 a.m. in English, 9:45 a.m. in English, 11:30 p.m. in English, 1:15p.m. in Spanish, 5:00 p.m. Youth Mass in English, 7:00 p.m. in Spanish. Great Hall: 8:00 a.m. in English, 9:45 a.m. in English, 11:30 a.m. in English. Due to Fire Code regulations, once the Church fills to capacity, we cannot allow any more people to enter. They will be

diverted to the Great Hall for simultaneous Masses. In order to avoid huge crowds, you may want to proceed initially to the Great Hall for Mass.

HAPPY EASTER!
