From the Pastor’s Desk… If we are going to follow the words of our Lord Jesus Christ “love one another as I have loved you”, the execution of this commandment of love has no exceptions. It implies to love everyone; Jews, Muslims, Protestants, Communists, Atheist, Saints and sinners. This kind of human and Devine expression implies loving ”for the love of God”, because in first place it’s our duty first and foremost as followers of Jesus Christ and secondly this will be the measure, love, by which we shall be judged at the end of times. Jesus gives us this commandment of love at the last supper, shortly after being betrayed by Judas. This action illustrates the new order of our savior, which implies the reconciliation with the whole world. This commandment is unconditional, indiscriminate and inclusive. Therefore, this way of living is easily exercised amongst friends. It is very easy to love those that treat us well! But, the love of God calls us to extraordinary acts with weight, substance, and gravitate. How difficult is it to love those that treat us ill, that do not understand us, that do not love us! But it’s precisely this kind of love, the one that fulfills the commandment of our Lord. No one should be excluded from love. Not even those that consider themselves our enemies. Not even and especially those who hurt us, should be exempt from being loved, the love by which Jesus lived, died and demanded his disciples exercise. This commandment is the foundation of all our actions and is right at the heart of the gospels. It is love what brings light to darkness, that gives courage to those who fear and mercy to all. If you want to know how much a person loves you ask yourself how much that person has forgiven you. This is Christ’ legacy and his legacy touches all the aspects of a Christian. It is also a way to prolong the teachings of our master, as we imitate and put in practice what he lived. The sign of Christian love becomes real when all is given, all is expected and all is understood.

Del Escritorio del Párroco… Si vamos a seguir las palabras de nuestro Señor Jesucristo “que se amen los unos a los otros como yo los he amado”, la ejecución de este mandamiento de amor no tiene excepciones. Implica amar a todos: judíos, musulmanes, protestantes, comunistas, ateos, santos y pecadores. Esta clase de expresión humana y divina implica el amar “por amor a Dios”, puesto que en primer lugar es nuestro deber como seguidores de Cristo y en segundo esa será la

medida, el amor, por la cual seremos juzgados al final de los tiempos. Jesús nos da este mandamiento de amor en la última cena, poco después de ser traicionado por Judas. Esta acción ilustra el nuevo orden de nuestro salvador, el cual implica la reconciliación con el mundo entero. Este mandato es incondicional, indiscriminado e inclusivo. Ahora bien, esta forma de vivir se ejercita sin dificultad entre amigos. ¡Es fácil amar a aquellos que nos hacen bien! Pero el amor de Dios nos llama a actos extraordinarios, actos con peso, sustancia y gravitas. ¡Qué duro resulta amar aquellos que nos hacen mal, que no nos entienden, que no nos aman! Pero es precisamente este tipo de amor el que lleva a su plenitud el mandamiento de nuestro Señor. Nadie debe ser excluido del amor. Ni siquiera aquellos que se consideren nuestros enemigos. Ni siquiera y especialmente aquellos que nos hacen daño, deben de ser exentos de ser amados, el amor por el cual Cristo vivió, murió y exigió que sus discípulos ejercieran. Este mandamiento es la base de todas nuestras acciones y se encuentra en el corazón de los evangelios. Es el amor quien trae luz a la oscuridad, quien da valor al que teme y misericordia a todos. Si quieres saber cuánto te ama una persona pregúntale cuánto te ha perdonado. Este es el legado de Cristo y su legado permea todas las facetas del cristiano. También es una forma de prolongar las enseñanzas de nuestro maestro, al imitarle y poner en práctica lo que vivió. El signo del amor cristiano se hace realidad cuando todo se da, todo se espera y todo lo entiende.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you! In a way, this Sunday’s Gospel reading from the Fourteenth Chapter of John points out some of our own difficulty in understanding what God wants to reveal to us. In it Jesus seeks to reassure his disciples of the love he has for them, but they fail to understand what he is saying because they are reading his words in worldly and not heavenly terms. When he states that he is going away but will return and take them with him, Thomas asks “…how can we know the way?” He totally misses the point, which is that Jesus is the Way. And when Jesus makes it known to them that in and through him they will also know the Father, Philip asks the Lord to “…show us the Father.” Again, a failure to see with the eyes of the heart what Christ is revealing to them. I have often acted like Thomas and Philip by failing to be centered on the person of Jesus and allow myself to be led by His Spirit. We often have a tendency of operating on cruise-control, and in doing so miss out on the overwhelmingly beautiful presence of God in our daily lives. Let’s make a conscientious effort during this wonderful Season of Easter to be focused and better attentive to what our loving God is telling us. May God richly bless you! Jose M. ¡La Paz del Señor esté con ustedes! En cierto modo, el Evangelio de este Domingo del Capítulo Catorce de Juan nos señala algunas de nuestras propias dificultades para comprender lo que nos quiere revelar Dios. En la lectura Jesús desea asegurar a sus discípulos acerca del amor que les tiene, pero ellos no entienden lo que está diciendo porque están leyendo sus palabras desde una perspectiva terrenal y no celestial. Cuando afirma que a pesar de que se alejará de ellos volverá y los llevará con Él, le pregunta Thomas "¿...cómo sabremos el camino?" Ha perdido totalmente el punto de que Jesús es el Camino. Y cuando Jesús les hace saber que en y a través de Él conocerán también al Padre, Felipe le pide "...muéstranos al Padre." De nuevo, un fracaso en ver con los ojos del corazón lo que Cristo les está revelando. Muchas veces he actuado como Tomás y Felipe por no estar centrado en la persona de Jesús y ser guiado por Su Espíritu. A menudo tenemos una tendencia de funcionar en autocontrol, y al hacerlo nos perdemos de la presencia abrumadora y hermosa de Dios en nuestras vidas diarias. Hagamos un esfuerzo consciente durante esta maravillosa Temporada de Pascua de ser mejor centrado y atento a lo que nos está diciendo nuestro amado Dios. ¡Qué Dios les bendiga! José M.
