From the Pastor’s Desk… "When they had fulfilled all the prescriptions of the law of the Lord, they returned ... to their own town of Nazareth." Mary and Joseph were faithful Jews who followed the norms of their religion. Today's Gospel describes the event we call "The Presentation." Jesus' parents, like every Jewish family, presented their infant son to the Lord in a formal ceremony at the temple in Jerusalem. Having done what their religious rites required (and having heard the prophetic words of Simeon and Anna), Mary and Joseph returned home. It was back in their native region of Galilee, amidst the daily routine of domestic life, that Jesus "grew and became strong, filled with wisdom." As Christians, we too consecrate our children to the Lord when we have them baptized in the Church. Seeing our children receive this sacrament of initiation is always a moment of great joy and hope as we anticipate the life that lies ahead for them, both on earth and in eternity. But the baptism of a baby is only the beginning of this journey towards heaven. In truth, the little daily details, the simple living of family life in our own home paves the way for our children to reach their eternal home. And so it was with the Holy Family. Jesus' childhood, his formation and development took place not primarily amidst the public drama of the temple, but in the quiet privacy of his home. How important this home was, where his parents raised him in their faith and helped him live in such a way that "the favor of God was upon him." May we too, in our homes and our families, remember that although our mission may be lived out in very small moments, taken together they have an eternal significance.

Del Escritorio del Párroco… "Cuando cumplieron todas las prescripciones de la ley del Señor, regresaron ... a su propio pueblo de Nazaret". María y José fueron judíos fieles que siguieron las normas de su religión. El Evangelio de hoy describe el evento que llamamos "La presentación". Los padres de Jesús, como todas las familias judías, presentaron a su hijo recién nacido al Señor en una ceremonia formal en el

templo de Jerusalén. Habiendo hecho lo que requerían sus ritos religiosos (y habiendo escuchado las palabras proféticas de Simeón y Ana), María y José regresaron a casa. Fue en su región natal de Galilea, en medio de la rutina diaria de la vida doméstica, que Jesús "creció y se hizo fuerte, lleno de sabiduría". Como cristianos, nosotros también consagramos a nuestros hijos al Señor cuando los bautizamos en la Iglesia. Ver a nuestros hijos recibir este sacramento de iniciación es siempre un momento de gran alegría y esperanza a medida que anticipamos la vida que les espera, tanto en la tierra como en la eternidad. Pero el bautismo de un bebé es solo el comienzo de este viaje hacia el cielo. En verdad, los pequeños detalles diarios, la vida sencilla de la vida familiar en nuestro propio hogar allana el camino para que nuestros hijos lleguen a su hogar eterno. Y así fue con la Sagrada Familia. La infancia de Jesús, su formación y desarrollo tuvieron lugar no principalmente en medio del drama público del templo, sino en la privacidad tranquila de su hogar. Qué importante fue este hogar, donde sus padres lo criaron en su fe y lo ayudaron a vivir de tal manera que "el favor de Dios estaba sobre él". Que nosotros también, en nuestros hogares y nuestras familias, recordemos que, aunque nuestra misión puede vivirse en momentos muy pequeños, en conjunto tienen un significado eterno.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you! Our religious education students are currently enjoying a well-deserved Christmas break, and soon will be returning to class. In the meantime, we encourage all CCD families to take advantage of this time to spend quality time together, enjoying and celebrating each other’s special gifts. Parents in particular should use this opportunity to share with their children the importance of Christ in our lives, not just in Christmas but throughout the entire year as well. Speaking of the new year, our students can also use their time off to think about the significance of the sacraments they are preparing to receive. We understand that maintaining proper balance is vital to a healthy life, so please do not spend all of your break thinking about CCD. (…I can’t believe I just wrote that!) Anyway, thanks for your participation in the program. Take care and make sure to celebrate safely with your loved ones the arrival of 2018. May God richly bless you! Jose M. ¡La Paz del Señor esté con ustedes! Nuestros estudiantes de educación religiosa están actualmente disfrutando de un bien merecido descanso de Navidad y pronto regresarán a clase. Mientras tanto, animamos a todas las familias de catequesis a que aprovechen este tiempo para pasar tiempo de calidad juntos, disfrutando y celebrando los dones especiales de cada cual. Los padres en particular deberían aprovechar esta oportunidad para compartir con sus hijos la importancia de Cristo en nuestras vidas, no sólo en Navidad sino durante todo el año. Hablando del nuevo año, nuestros estudiantes también pueden utilizar este tiempo pensando sobre el significado de los sacramentos por lo cual están preparándose para recibir. Entendemos que mantener un equilibrio apropiado es parte vital para una vida sana, así que por favor no pasen todo su tiempo pensando sobre la catequesis. (…¡No puedo creer que acabo de escribir eso!) De todos modos, gracias por su participación en el programa. Year End Giving to Charity Throughout the year, we all try to be as generous as possible to help the parish pay its bills and minister to others in need in the name of Christ. We know that the parish uses our gifts as frugally as possible to proclaim the Gospel, teach the Faith, impart the grace of the sacraments, care for the hungry and needy, counsel those who are

hurting as well as couples and families and many other things. The parish must pay its workers, its utilities and insurance, diocesan bills, pay down its debt and save as much as possible for ministry. Before the year ends, we ask you to look at how much you have given and consider if you want to make an additional gift to Saint Aloysius Parish or one of our ministries. You still have time to make your payments to the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL for this year’s tax credits. Your generosity to the appeal is greatly appreciated.

La Caridad al Fin del Año A través del año, tratamos de ser tan generosos como sea posible para ayudar a la parroquia a pagar sus deudas y ministrar a otros en necesidad en nombre de Cristo. Sabemos que la parroquia utiliza nuestros dones tan frugalmente como sea posible para proclamar el Evangelio, a enseñar la fe, impartir la gracia de los sacramentos, cuidado para los hambrientos y necesitados, aconsejar a quienes están sufriendo así como las parejas y familias y muchas otras cosas.
