From the Pastor’s Desk… This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christ. We pay special homage to God’s most striking gift to us, Christ in the Eucharist. On the night before he died he took bread and gave thanks and praise, he took the bread, broke it, gave it to his disciples and said, “Take this all of you and eat it. This is my body which will be given up for you.” In an attempt to go beyond the crucifixion, as an act of love, he left us his body and blood as spiritual food for the journey. Christ became the living bread and the cup of salvation. This was to the dismay of many. This is not the aristotelian god, indifferent, cold, unreachable and distant. This is neither the unquenchable aztec god demanding one blood sacrifice after another nor the “mighty” god from the Old Testament so terrible and intimidating. This is our God, close to our humanity and our reality. In the mystery of the Incarnation God became flesh and pitched His tent among us. And from that tent He chose the humblest of forms to remain with His people, the forms of bread and vine. And this we call Eucharist. To this day, this Eucharistic gift has remained among us. People have tried to define or redefine it, to change it, to update it, and even have tried to reject it. To accept that perishable forms of bread and vine can become by the action of the Holy Spirit, through the hands of God’s priests, fallible instruments is both mind bothering and a mystery. We cannot control it and we cannot fully define it. But if we ever doubt of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist just look at the results of it, look at the many lives that have been changed, elevated, and redeemed. Look at the many people who have return to loving God because of this gift. Look around at the diversity of people, nationalities, ages, ethnicity, economical levels and so forth that become one at the celebration of this Eucharistic meal. As pilgrims on the road we suffer from many hungers but the greatest hunger of them all is our hunger for God. Eucharist means for us to be brothers and sisters in search of the living God as we forgive each other, as we support each other, as we love each other. We are to go out and to share this gift with others, becoming healing presence and helping hands. Only in such we can become bread for others, only in such we can become Eucharist.

Del Escritorio del Párroco…

Hoy celebramos la Solemnidad de Corpus Cristi. Le damos un homenaje especial al regalo mayor de Dios para nosotros, Cristo en la Eucaristía. En la noche antes de su Pasión, Él tomó pan y dando gracias y alabanza, lo partió y lo dio a sus discípulos diciendo, “Tomad y Comed todos de él. Porque esto es mi cuerpo que será entregado por ustedes.” En un deseo por ir más allá de la crucifixión, como un acto de amor, él nos dejó su cuerpo y su sangre como alimento espiritual para la jornada. Cristo se convirtió en el pan vivo y verdadero, en la copa de nuestra salvación. Y esto para la incredulidad de muchos.

Este no es el dios aristotélico, indiferente, frio, inalcanzable y distante. Este no es el dios azteca sediento, dios azteca que exigía un sacrificio de sangre tras otro. Tampoco este es el dios intimidante y terrible del Antiguo Testamento. Este es nuestro Dios, cercano a nuestra humanidad y nuestros elementos. En el misterio de la encarnación Dios el verbo se hizo hombre y montó su tienda entre nosotros. Y desde esa tienda el escogió la forma más humilde de las formas para permanecer con su pueblo, en las formas de pan y vino. Y a esto le llamamos Eucaristía. Hasta este día, el regalo de la Eucaristía se ha mantenido entre nosotros. Algunas personas han tratado de definirla o redefinirla, de cambiarla, de “ponerla al día” e inclusive algunos la han rechazado. El aceptar que las formas del pan y vino se pueden convertir a través de la acción del Espíritu Santo, a través de las manos del sacerdote, instrumentos falibles, es difícil de entender y un misterio. No podemos controlar la Eucaristía y no podemos definirla en su totalidad. Pero si en alguna ocasión dudásemos de la presencia real de Cristo en la Eucaristía simplemente veamos los resultados de la misma, veamos cuántas vidas se han convertido, elevado y redimido. Veamos a la cantidad de personas que han regresado al amor de Dios por este regalo. Veamos a nuestro alrededor a la diversidad de personas, nacionalidades, edades, etnias, diferentes niveles económicos y demás que se convierten en uno en la celebración del banquete Eucarístico. Como peregrinos en la jornada sufrimos de muchas hambres pero el hambre mayor de todas es nuestra hambre por Dios. La Eucaristía representa para nosotros el ser hermanas y hermanos en la búsqueda del Dios vivo cuando nos perdonamos los unos a otros, cuando nos apoyamos los unos a los otros, cuando nos amamos los unos a los otros. Estamos llamados a salir al mundo y ser un don para otros, convirtiéndonos en una presencia de sanación y de ayuda a los demás. Solamente así podemos hacer pan para otros, solamente así nos podemos convertir en Eucaristía.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you! My hope is that by now you have come across the half-page ad appearing in our parish bulletin indicating the current need for catechists. Our pastor has, in no uncertain terms, made it known that it is his expectation our religious education program will continue to grow and develop to its fullest potential. In order for this to happen we definitely need your support. If you (or anyone you know) are passionate about inspiring our young children and youth with the saving knowledge and teachings of Jesus Christ, this is the time to let us know of your desire to help the parish as a religious education instructor for the upcoming academic year. Our present need is for caring individuals to teach Pre Communion, Communion, Post Communion, and Pre Confirmation classes. A catechist workshop in July will be followed by additional training sessions. We hope you understand that this is a situation of great importance to us all. A catechetical ministry ensures the future of a parish with the understanding of the Catholic Church’s teachings. With that in mind, we earnestly ask you to please consider assisting us in this effort to show how much we care about the future vitality of this vibrant community of faith. May God richly bless you! ¡La Paz del Señor esté con ustedes! Espero que ya se hayan familiarizado con el aviso en nuestro boletín sobre la existente necesidad de catequistas. Nuestro párroco ha dado a conocer enfáticamente su expectativa que el programa de educación religiosa continúe desarrollándose hacia su potencial máxima. Necesitaremos definitivamente de su apoyo para que esto se logre. Si a usted (o a algún conocido suyo) le apasiona poder inspirar a niños y adolescentes con el conocimiento sobre la persona y las enseñanzas de Jesucristo, es justo el momento de comunicarnos su deseo de apoyar a la parroquia como instructor(a) de catequesis para el año académico que se aproxima. Actualmente existe necesidad para instructores de Pre Comunión, Comunión, Post Comunión y Pre Confirmación. Habrá un taller Catequético en junio, seguido por sesiones de enseñanza adicionales. Please register your child for the upcoming Religious Education program year. Registration forms are available at the parish office. All children in first grade and over who are not enrolled in a Catholic School should be attending CCD. Please bring your child's baptismal certificate and a $20 deposit, and tell others as well of this great opportunity. Please contact the par-ish office within normal business hours with any related ques-tions or concerns. Thanks for your cooperation. We look for-ward to having your child in the program.
