From the Pastor’s Desk… Jesus had no second thoughts in denouncing the religious leaders of his time. Directly, unapologetic and with a strong criticism he would denounce the Scribes, the lawyers, the teachers of the religious law, and Pharisees, the religious leaders as pious frauds, lacking of sincerity and full of blatant hypocrisy. In clear display of their vanity they would pray in loud voice with all kinds of beautiful words and images while at the same time they would ignore the beauty of mercy, justice, and the value of the person. They were more concerned with the daily rituals of purification than with the widows of the city. They were more interested that their prayer shawls had the right number of colors or tassels while not even acknowledging the foreigner and the public sinners Ritual was more important than reality, and their interpretation of the Law of Moses was more important than people. It would be simplistic of us to limit Jesus’ denouncement only for the Pharisees and Seduces. What he is saying is relevant also for us. We must keep vigilance of our piety, devotions, rituals, and public worship. If they are not sustained with our attempt of living a genuine Christian life they are empty. Our public worship must agree with what we believe, what we feel, and what we hold in our interior lives. It isn’t consistent to have a deep devotion to the Immaculate Conception and stab our brother in the back for the family inheritance. It doesn’t make sense to pray the rosary all day long while having nothing but fashionable tolerance for homosexuals or contempt for unwed mothers. It is fruitless to loudly pray the Our Father at mass while at home with the very same mouth blaming only the Arabs for terrorism in the world because “they are all the same”. As actions speak louder than words, our external behavior must be a sound reflection of our inner reality. May God enable us to be living proves of the love of God for all, saints in our life time.

Del Escritorio del Párroco… Jesús nunca tuvo dudas al denunciar a los líderes religiosos de su tiempo. Directamente, sin disculpas y con fuertes críticas, denunciaba a los escribas, los abogados, los maestros de la ley, los fariseos a los líderes religiosos como fraudes piadosos, carentes de sinceridad y llenos de descarada hipocresía. En clara exhibición de su vanidad

rezarían en voz alta con todo tipo de hermosas palabras e imágenes mientras que al mismo tiempo ignorarían la belleza de la misericordia, la justicia y el valor de la persona. Estaban más preocupados con los rituales diarios de purificación que con las viudas de la ciudad. Les interesaba más que sus chales de oración tuvieran la cantidad correcta de colores o borlas sin siquiera reconocer al extranjero y a los pecadores públicos. El ritual era más importante que la realidad y su interpretación de la Ley de Moisés era más importante que las personas. Sería simplista para nosotros limitar la denuncia de Jesús solo para los fariseos y los seduceos. Lo que está Jesús diciendo es relevante también para nosotros. Debemos mantener la vigilancia de nuestra piedad, devociones, rituales y adoración pública. Si no se sostienen con nuestro intento de vivir una vida cristiana genuina, están vacíos. Nuestra adoración pública debe estar de acuerdo con lo que creemos, lo que sentimos y lo que llevamos en nuestro interior. No es consistente el tener una profunda devoción a la Inmaculada Concepción y apuñalar a nuestro hermano en la espalda por la herencia familiar. No tiene sentido rezar el rosario todo el día sin tener nada más que mera tolerancia para los homosexuales o el desprecio por las madres solteras. Es inútil orar en voz alta el Padre Nuestro en la misa mientras en la casa con la misma boca culpando solamente a los árabes por el terrorismo en el mundo porque "todos son iguales". Al ver que las acciones hablan más que las palabras, nuestro comportamiento externo debe ser un reflejo sólido de nuestra realidad interna. Que Dios nos permita ser vivo ejemplo del amor de Dios por todos, los santos en nuestro tiempo de vida.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you!

The Old Testament prophets spoke of a time in which all nations would offer a pure sacrifice to God. The fulfillment of those prophesies were realized in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, which began with Christ’s institution of the Eucharist during the Last Supper. The sacrifice being offered at every Mass is the eternal sacrifice of Christ on the Cross for the salvation of all mankind. To participate fully in the Mass is to enter into the mystery of our own redemption, as well as those in the past and future. The sacramental role of the priest at Mass is central, in that during the Rite of Consecration he takes on the person of Christ, and offers himself as the perfect sacrificial offering to God the Father. I hope this doesn’t seem too difficult or confusing, but it is the Truth we profess to believe as baptized Catholics. The Catholic faith is not for the faint-hearted. Once we make the sacrifice of investing time and effort to properly learn it, we are exceedingly rewarded by its unimaginable and endless beauty. Please consider this a warm invitation to encountering Jesus Christ through His Holy Church.

¡La Paz del Señor esté con ustedes!

Los profetas del Antiguo Testamento hablaban de un tiempo en el que todas las Naciones ofrecerían un sacrificio puro a Dios. El cumplimiento de las profecías se realizó en el Sacrificio de la Santa Misa, la cual comenzó con la Institución de Cristo de la Eucaristía en la Última Cena. El sacrificio ofrecido en cada Misa es el Sacrificio Eterno de Cristo en la Cruz por la salvación de toda la humanidad. Participar plenamente en la Misa es entrar en el misterio de la redención nuestra, así como la de quienes vivieron en el pasado como los del futuro. El papel sacramental del sacerdote en la Misa es central, ya que durante el Rito de Consagración funciona en la Persona de Cristo, y se ofrece como ofrenda de sacrificio perfecta a Dios Padre. Espero que esto no les parezca demasiado difícil o confuso, pero es la Verdad que profesamos como Católicos bautizados. La fe Católica no es para los débiles de corazón. En cuanto hacemos el sacrificio personal de invertir el tiempo y esfuerzo por aprenderlo correctamente, somos sumamente recompensados por su belleza inimaginable e infinita. Por favor considere esto una cordial invitación hacia un encuentro personal con Jesucristo a través de Su Santa Iglesia.
