The master, going on a journey, delegates his talents to his servants with the desire of their multiplication. The expectation was simple and clear. Two of them commit themselves to the task. We see the results. The third servant has a different approach: buries his talent. He becomes disobedient. He waives the master’s desire and expectation. Doesn’t take a risk, remains indifferent to the master’s expectations and hides the talent. Sometimes it’s easier that way. We are called by the gospel to share our talents and in so to multiply them. God has given us at the moment of our conception, birth, and baptism a call to serve and has given us tools to do so. Those tools are called gifts. Those gifts are diverse, unique and they are meant to be shared in the context of the community. They are not given with the sole purpose of self-realization. Catholics and Christians in general don’t think that way. Jesus himself requests from his followers to be alert and in this context to be ready by presenting our “investment” and our fruits. This can be translated in different ways through the formal ministry in the Church: to read at Mass, to organize fundraising activities, to teach as catechists, to pray for friends in trouble, to practice charity and to be faithful to Christ. All these are forms of being stewards with what God gave us. This is a way of saying yes to bear fruits and not to turn ourselves into empty words. We are not called to “play it safe”. We are called to take risks ad share our talents. Fear is the reason that stopped the servant in the gospel to multiply and share his talents. What’s stopping us if Christ is on our side? Let us joyfully move towards his service as we approach the table of the Lord…

El maestro, en un viaje, delega sus talentos a sus sirvientes con el deseo de su multiplicación. La expectativa era simple y clara. Dos de ellos se comprometen con la tarea. Vemos los resultados. El tercer sirviente tiene un enfoque diferente: entierra su talento. Se vuelve desobediente. Renuncia al deseo y expectativa del maestro. No se arriesga, permanece indiferente ante las expectativas del maestro y oculta el talento. A veces es más fácil así. Somos llamados por el evangelio para compartir nuestros talentos y para multiplicarlos. Dios nos ha dado en el momento de nuestra concepción, nacimiento y bautismo un llamado a

servir y nos ha dado herramientas para hacerlo. Esas herramientas se llaman dones. Esos regalos son diversos, únicos y están destinados a ser compartidos

en el contexto de la comunidad. No se dan con el único propósito de la autorrealización. Los católicos y los cristianos en general no piensan así. Jesús mismo solicita a sus seguidores que estén alertas y, en este contexto, estén listos presentando nuestra “inversión” y nuestros frutos. Esto se puede traducir de diferentes

maneras a través del ministerio formal en la Iglesia: leer en Misa, organizar actividades pro-fondo, enseñar como catequista, orar por los

amigos y familiares en problemas, practicar la caridad y ser fiel a Cristo. Todas estas son formas de ser administradores con lo que Dios nos ha dado. Esta es una forma de decir sí para dar frutos y no para convertirnos en palabras vacías. No estamos llamados a "quedarnos en lo mismo". Estamos llamados a tomar riesgos y compartir nuestros talentos. El miedo es la razón que detuvo al sirviente en el evangelio para multiplicar y compartir sus talentos. ¿Qué nos detiene si Cristo está de nuestro lado? Avancemos alegremente hacia su servicio al acercarnos a la mesa del Señor ...

Works of Mercy in the Classroom (Jared Dees) A few ways we can give students the experience of this mercy without leaving the classroom: 1. Meditate on the works of mercy- help them reflect on ways they have experienced the works of mercy and are called to practice them. 2. Skits and scenarios- Assign each work of mercy to groups of a few students each. Have them plan a skit showing that work of mercy in action and have them act it out in front of the class. 3. Praying the works of mercy- Turn each one of the works of mercy into an opportunity to create prayers. Praying guides them to feel mercy for specific people. 4. Assigned and unassigned homework- Assign one of the corporal or spiritual works of mercy as an obligatory homework assignment and tell students to write in a journal about the experience.

Obras de misericordia en el Salón (Jared Dees) Algunas formas de dar a los estudiantes la experiencia de las obras de misericordia sin salir del salón: 1. Meditar en las obras de misericordia- ayudarles a reflexionar sobre formas en que han vivido las obras y están llamados a ponerlas en práctica. 2. Dramatizaciones y escenarios- asignar cada obra de misericordia a grupos de alumnos. Pedirles planear una obra que muestra la obra en acción y actuarla frente a la clase. 3. Orando las obras de misericordia- Haz de cada una de las obras de misericordia una oportunidad para crear oraciones. El orar los guía a sentir misericordia por personas específicas. 4. Tarea asignada y no asignada- asignar tarea de las obras corporales o espirituales de misericordia como una tarea obligatoria y pídele a los estudiantes escribir en un diario sobre la experiencia.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Wednesday in the Thiele Center from 10am to noon. This group knits and crochets prayer shawls while praying individually and as a group for the recipient of each shawl. These shawls represent a visible symbol of our prayers

and presence. Shawls have been given to those facing challenging times, illness or to celebrate a special moment to bring the comfort and warmth of God’s love and healing. El Ministerio Mantas de Oración se reúne todos los miércoles en el Centro Pastoral de 10am a medio día. Este grupo hace mantas de oración hechos de tejido o de ganchillo mientras rezan individualmente y como grupo para que el receptor de cada manta. Estas mantas representan un símbolo visible de nuestras oraciones y presencia. Las mantas se han dado a aquellos que enfrentan tiempos difíciles, enfermedad o para celebrar un momento especial para llevar el apoyo y la calidez del amor de Dios y la sanación.
