From the Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, During this difficult and trying

time, we all need to do our part to help slow the

spread of this novel coronavirus pandemic.

In compliance with civil authorities and our

Diocese of St. Petersburg, we are indefinitely

suspending all scheduled weekday and week-

end Masses along with all other meetings/

gatherings at St. John Vianney Parish. At this

time, we do not know when we will be able to

resume public worship. We need to abide by

these directives and mandates that are put in

place for our common good. While we are not

able to gather for Mass and other services/

events at this time, there are many wonderful

resources that can help us stay connected to our

Catholic faith and with each other. Please take

advantage of these resources to stay connected

with the Mass and to continue to nourish your

Catholic faith. These resources can be found on

our parish website at stjohnsparish.org and on

our Facebook page located at Facebook.com/

StJohnVianneyCatholicChurchStPeteBeach We are working to live stream daily and week-

end Masses at St. John’s. The live stream will

be available on our Facebook page and website.

Please understand that these Masses are not

open to the public. At the time you would

normally receive the Holy Eucharist, make a

Spiritual Communion asking Jesus to come into

your hearts. This is an intimate encounter with

Jesus in the Eucharist that can satisfy your

spiritual hunger for the Eucharist until we can

gather once again for public worship. We are making the church available for

private prayer (see website and Facebook page

for updates). The Sacrament of Reconciliation

is currently scheduled at outdoor stations on

our church property Wednesdays, 6–6:30 p.m.

and Saturdays 10–11 a.m. Schedules are subject

to change.

We also kindly ask that you continue to practice

your faithful stewardship by supporting our

St. John’s Church and School community with

your weekly donations and sacrificial giving.

You can mail-in your donations or drop them

off at our parish office. We are also providing

collection bins in church at the foot of the

sanctuary for donations. I encourage you to check

out our WeShare online giving program which

allows you the opportunity to give electronically

in faithful stewardship. We will continue to monitor this situation.

As revised/new directives from our Diocese of

St. Petersburg come forth, we will update you on

our website and Facebook homepages. Our parish

bulletin will continue to be published and you

can pick up a copy in the church or at our

parish office. The bulletin is also available in

electronic form on our parish website. You can

also go to dosp.org for more information about

our diocesan response to coronavirus. Please be assured of my daily prayers for you and

your loved ones…and remember: Be Prepared,

Not Scared…Faith over Fear…and Spread Jesus,

not Germs! Pax Christi,

ministry to help those who

have been directed to stay

home (high risk or vulnerable) We are reaching

out for volunteers to grocery shop and pick up

prescriptions for our parishioners who should not

Forgiveness

Christ Renews His Parish We beg of you this night, O God, what none but

you can give: the forgiveness of our sins against

you. Unless you forgive them O Lord, our sins

will stain our souls forever. We await your

forgiving grace as the parched earth awaits

the rain from heaven. But we await your forgiveness in hope and

prayer. In hope, because we know you love us,

the work of your hand, as every artist loves his

masterpiece, and as every good father loves his

children. In prayer we wait, for your son Jesus has

promised that our prayers would be answered in

his name. Forgive us and restore us to holy peace with you.

Make us what our city and our world need: men

and women of peace. Amen.

Annual Pastoral Appeal We Are Salt and Light! This is the theme of the

current Annual Pastoral Appeal. It is quite

evident at this time how important it

is to remember we are salt and light.

As salt, we bring flavor to those

around us. Our attitude, our outlook,

our general demeanor can be encouraging or

discouraging depending on how we react to the

current challenges. We must remember, God is in

charge! He is the one who cares for us, watches

over us, guides us. Take some time to visit with

Him and ask for His counsel. As light, we share God’s presence and love, again

by our attitude and our outlook. Look for the

graces, the blessings, the joys. Strive to be

encouraging, joyful, upbeat. Reach out to help

in any way you safely can. Social distancing is not easy. Most people are

social by nature. Making yourself stay home,

keeping your distance when you must go out,

and generally isolating is not easy. If you have

family and friends to talk to and communicate

with, you are very blessed, a definite grace!

Use some of that “stay at home” time to call

neighbors and friends, especially those that are

alone. Perhaps use it to clean out your closet for

donation to a shelter. There are lots of ways to be

Salt and Light. The volunteers of our ministries that serve the

poor are still hard at work. They need our

support through donations of non-perishable

foods and/or money. Donations may be left at the

parish office for delivery to St. Vincent de Paul.

APA is still going on and we must raise the funds

to pay this debt. But our focus right now is on the

immediate needs of our parish family. We will get

back to asking for APA soon. Stay well and pray for all those affected by the

Coronavirus.

Next Sunday there will be a second collection

for the Building Fund. If you are able, please

send a gift.

your traditional IRA accounts for those 70½

or older. These distributions can be used to

satisfy all or a portion of your Required Minimum

Distribution and are free of federal and state

income tax. Also, these gifts help you avoid the

Catholic Church. For questions, contact the

Easter Altar Flowers Although we currently are unable to

gather for Sunday Mass, we are

hopeful this will change before

Easter. Therefore, we invite you to

donate toward our Easter Altar

Flower Fund, for your personal intentions.

Intentions will be placed in a basket at the altar.

If we are unable to gather Easter Sunday, the

intentions will remain next to the Tabernacle

when Masses resume and for several weeks

thereafter. The flowers were ordered for delivery

during Holy Week and will still adorn the house

of Our Lord. Donations may be dropped in the Donation

Box in the Church or sent to:
