welcome to drop in your donation to help to defray the cost of the
air-conditioning. Green colored envelopes are available for your
convenience. If you wish to drop that envelope into the single

THE FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
You are most welcome to spend some time adoring Our
Lord in the Blessed Sacrament this Sunday, July 15th, at any time
from after the 10:30 A.M. Holy Mass until 8:30 P.M. Benediction.
God will be most pleased with you as you spend time with Him.
I want to thank the 85 families of the parish who have
pledged to this year’s Cardinal’s Appeal. Our goal was $10,000
and for the seventh year in a row we have far exceeded our goal.
$22,313 has been pledged so far and $18,848 has been paid so far.
I wish to thank the 85 families who have pledged to the five year
capital campaign called Renew and Rebuild. Our goal was
$228,521 and the total pledged over these next five years was
$315,590 and so far $79,543.32 has been paid. It should be noted
that more than 100 families pledged to either the Cardinal’ Appeal
or Renew and Rebuild or pledged to both of them. The first 74%
rebate that came in May was a little more than $49,000; the next
rebate, which will be much smaller, is scheduled to be made
during sometime between the end of July and the beginning of
August.
You may have seen that a small portion of the parking lot
has been repaved and resealed. This is the very beginning of the
five year’s worth of projects that we hope to accomplish. Please
pray that we will do what God wants us to do during these next
five years.
As a small token of my gratitude for who you are and
what you do, I invite all of you, my dear parishioners, to the sixth
annual Parish Appreciation Picnic on Sunday, September 9th,
starting at 1:00 P.M. on the grounds of the Centerville Firehouse.
Once again, I wish to thank the firefighters for permitting us to use
their place for the picnic.
I was a little slowed by the heat wave that we had for
eight days; therefore, by the time you read this letter to you, I will
only be at 72 miles and I should finish by July 31st instead of July
26th. I want to thank all of you who have sponsored me so far: you
have been most munificent in that $3,468 has been raised for the
parish. I want to be fair and just to those of you who want me to
do 103 or 104 miles so it will take me until July 31st to accomplish
those goals.
In next week’s letter, I will let you know how the Parish
Council meeting and the semi-annual Blood Drive went.
The Church Store in July was once again a big success; it
will be closed in August but will resume in September. I want to
thank Elaine, Angela, Eleanor, Ed, Marie, and Libby for their
ministering the Church Store to us.
For the seventh year in a row, I offered a Holy Mass at
the home of Bart, Mary Therese, Ian, Kevin, and Meredith praying
for the repose of the souls of Fr. Frannie and Fr. Pierce plus all
their families and friends, living or deceased. I used a new Mass
Kit that the Ladies of the Altar Rosary Society and Bob Howe
purchased for me to use on such occasions. Both deceased priests
always concelebrate every Holy Mass that I offer to God and that
is quite special.
Finally, in past years, we have had a special second
collection to defray the cost of the air-conditioning in the Church.
This year, I am following the suggestion of the Finance Council to
have a basket at each of the two entrances to the Church in which
you are most welcome to drop in a basket your donation to help to
pay for the air-conditioning. Green colored envelopes are available
for your convenience. If you wish to drop that envelope into the
single collection (the regular collection) at Holy Mass this
weekend, you may feel free to do so. Once again, I wish to thank
you for your continued generosity to our parish.
Sincerely, with prayers,
Father Bill Woodruff
COOKIE MINISTRY- This is a prayer ministry with
a cookie reward up front. We ask that you stop by our
table at the back of the church each week. Just pick up
a prayer request and a cookie and pray at least one
prayer for the person or intention on the paper. You
are invited to add your own prayer requests to the
basket. Pay if forward with a prayer and a cookie!
CHECK OUT OUR WEBSITE- Take a visit and check out St.
John’s website. The Web Address is www.sjechurch.org.
CHILD ABUSE AWARENESS- Every day in this country,
nearly 9,000 children are reported abused and neglected, over 170
in Ulster County alone. Many of these children are eventually
placed into the foster care system. Court Appointed Special
Advocates (CASA) of Ulster County is helping to make a positive
impact in the lives of these children by training volunteers to
speak on behalf of their best interest. By working one-on-one,
volunteers become well-acquainted with each child’s situation
and present recommendations to the court for placement, ensuring
that judges are equipped to make informed decisions. This is
your chance to make a difference in the life of a child living in
your community. All you need is 10-15 hours a month and a
willing heart. If you are interested, please contact 339-7543.
DAYTOP- A son, a daughter, a father can readily fall prey to the
pitfalls of drugs and alcohol! Daytop is as close as your
telephone! Daytop, Rhinebeck, P.O. Box 214, Rhinebeck, NY
12572, 824-867-4404, Hotline# 800-2-Daytop.
DO YOU HAVE ROOM IN YOUR HEART AND YOUR
HOME? Currently there are 518,000 children in the U.S. Foster
Care System. Please consider the rewards of foster parenting or
adopting a young person in your community. For more
information, call the Ulster County Department of Social Services
Foster Care/Home Finding Unit at 334-5400.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS- We are in need of help in the
Hospital Pastoral Ministry. We need Eucharistic Ministers,
people to visit patients and/or help with paperwork. This can be
as little as two hours a week. If interested, please call St. Mary’s
at 331-0301 between the hours of 9 – 2 PM daily. Thank you!
JOKE– Two attorneys went into a diner and ordered
two drinks. Then they produced sandwiches from their
briefcases and started to eat. The owner became quite
concerned and marched over and told them, “You can’t
eat your own sandwiches in here!” The attorneys looked at each
other, shrugged their shoulders and then exchanged sandwiches.

PRAYER FOR LIFE
Jesus, Mary and Joseph we love you very much.
Help us spiritually adopt and protect all human life
from preborn to natural death.
Amen.

MAKING ALL THINGS NEW
God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist,
You bring us together as Your Church in the
Archdiocese of New York.
Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our actions
as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese.
Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish
communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and material gifts
that sustain them.
Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to the truth
of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

THE MASTER’S PLAN RESULTS-
The children of Mrs. Renner’s 4th Grade St. John the
Evangelist’s Religious Education Class have learned that everything we
are given in life; our money, our talents, our time, our knowledge, etc.
was never meant for us to keep. God expects us to share it willingly with
others, especially those in need.
At last year’s Advent Program, each child in the class was
given $10 and asked to use it wisely in the Master’s name. These are the
wonderful things that our children have accomplished:
Max Baker hosted a Movie Night serving food and candy while
watching the movie Coco. Max turned his $10 into $1,010 and donated
it to local families who lost their homes to a fire.
McCoy Rothe hosted a Spaghetti Dinner at his home and
invited friends and family to attend requesting a donation from each. He
raised $250. He too, donated his money to local families who lost their
homes to a fire.
Eian Cooper & Anthony Lewoc held a Bake Sale turning their
$20 into $450. They donated their money to St. Jude’s Children
Hospital.
Jillian Nowitzki made homemade cat and dog treats, raising
$555 which she donated to the SPCA.
Viola Myers, Mickerson Neiffer, and Regan Kavanagh held a
Bake Sale. They turned their $30 into $800. Which they donated part of
to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and part to provide meals to families in
Haiti.
All in all, they turned $80, which they received at the Advent
Program into $3,065. Over the past 14 years the Master’s Plan Project
has donated $29,568.03 to a variety of different charities.
These are the accomplishments of the children of our parish.
May we learn from them and challenge ourselves to look at the gifts God
has given us and use them wisely; so that at the end of our lives on earth
God will say to us, “You have been a good and faithful servant. Come,
you have inherited eternal life.”

PARISHIONERS’ COMMENT– I have been tithing without
calling it that all my life. My mother believed if you give to the
church, no matter what problems come your way, you will
overcome them. My experience convinces me that this is true.
PASTOR’S COMMENT– The Lord keeps a careful eye on the
loving generosity of His people.
