The displays of sportsmanship, competition and joy were clearly evident for everyone to witness. The success of the day is attributed to the many worker bees who toiled to ensure that the day ran smoothly. My thanks go to the parents/carers who took on a specific job, the families who came along to cheer and bring a festive element, the students for giving their all, Mrs Smith and everyone who assisted in the Canteen, the staff of St Johns School for your organisation and sense of fun, Little Athletics for the use of their great facility, and Mr Matthews for overseeing every aspect of the carnival. Please see page three of the School Newsletter for all the results. Uniform Survey Thank you for your patience in relation to the results of our Uniform Survey. After examining the survey results, discussing the data at a School Board, Staff and P&F level, the following changes to the School Uniform have been made: Black School Shoes From 2021, the St Johns School Uniform, greys for boys and dress for girls, requires that the students wear all black sports shoes (not skate shoes). Sports Faction Shirt The St Johns Sports Uniform requires the professionally designed and produced faction t-shirt be worn. This t-shirt will feature the school logo and panels of the studentsfaction colour. The School Community would have input into the design. This t-shirt would be worn on both Faction Carnival Days and one of the designated sports uniform days each week. The current green sports shirt would be worn on the other designated sports uniform day each week. A design process will commence for this shirt very soon. School Jumper The St Johns School and Sports Uniforms require that students wear the green sports jacket on cooler days. There will be a phasing in period for this rule so the green woollen jumper is still acceptable. There are currently no changes to the boysgrey shirt and white socks for Sport/girlsuniform. More information will come in the coming weeks. Parents/carers need to be aware that there will be periods of transition for all the changes and there is no requirement for families to immediately purchase new items of clothing. Code of Conduct At St Johns School, we have a Code of Conduct. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to describe minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The Code of Conduct applies to staff, students, volunteers and parents/carers as applicable. A copy can be found on the School Website https://www.sjr.wa.edu.au/pdf/policies_codeofconduct.pdf. In the coming weeks, one Conduct Statement will be highlighted in the School Newsletter. Good News Story My shout out this week goes to two students from the Faction Athletics Carnival. Firstly, congratulations and thank you to Skyla in Year Five for taking on the role of official photographer. Skyla was unable to complete and willingly took on the rule capturing some great moments of the day, all of which will be shared very soon. The second Good News Storypertains to a student in Year Two, Tommy. At the Carnival, at lunchtime, he approached three students who were eating in the bays and asked them to join his family for lunch. What a beautiful moment of kindness. Thank you, Tommy. May we remain faithful to working in partnership with our family, friends, colleagues, community and God. Religious News Staff Retreat Day

On Monday, staff at St John’s School participated in a Staff Retreat. The theme for the Staff Retreat was: How is God calling us to be a Christ-centered school that is missionary.

The day provided moments of prayer, engagement and discernment. All of which was framed around Christ’s calling of how

best we can live out His ‘mission’ at St John’s School. Thank you to Father Bernard who provided a foundation to the day by unpacking the mission of Jesus and His Apostles within the Gospels and Book of Acts. A thank you must be given to the staff who were again extremely responsive, engaged and

energised with the day’s learning intentions. Watch this space! Year Six Sacrament of Confirmation – Important Dates

The Sacrament of Confirmation Mass will be held on Tuesday 15 September at 5.30pm in the St John’s Church. This celebration will be followed by a Supper in the St John’s School Hall which you are all invited to attend. All students in Year Six will attend a Sacrament of Confirmation Retreat Day. This Retreat will be held on school grounds on Tuesday 8 September.

Year Six – Sacrament of Reconciliation

On Friday 4 September, students who will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation. This practice prepares and forms our students to be fully open to be sealed with the Holy Spirit. Fruit of the Spirit

This is the first week St John’s School Community will focus on the Fruit of the Spirit, Faithfulness. His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of

many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

(Matthew 25:21)

Having faith in God, in what appears to be an ever-growing secularized world is very difficult. In this Gospel scripture, we see that Jesus reminds us that having faith in God will pay great reward.

I encourage all who may have not been to Mass in a while to go and engage in the gift of the presence of Christ and share in His happiness. Brett Love - Assistant Principal Religious Education

Administration News Faction Athletics Carnival Congratulations to all of our students from Year 1 to Year 6 for the way they enthusiastically participated in the Faction Athletics Carnival on Friday. It was wonderful to see the sportsmanship, perseverance, encouragement, fun and joy that permeated throughout the Carnival. A big thank you to Mr Matthews and the many other staff and parents whose work behind the scenes, and on the day, make these days such a success. Assembly Congratulations to our Year 3 Class who presented a well-rehearsed and polished Assembly item today for us to enjoy. We look forward to our next School Assembly on Thursday 17th September. As we missed Assemblies due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Year 1 and 2 Classes will be presenting an item together to ensure both classes have an opportunity to perform. Evacuation Drill Please be advised that next Thursday 3rd September we will be undertaking a whole school Evacuation Drill. This drill will take place during a recess or lunch break. All students will be made aware that a drill will be performed on this day prior to the evacuation. If you are on the school grounds during an evacuation drill you are required to follow the direction of staff and make your way to the Assembly Area on the School Oval. Netball Clinic Netball WA will be running clinics at St John’s School on Thursday 10th September. All students from Year 1-6 will have the opportunity to participate and therefore we request that students please wear their Sport Uniform on this day.
