Next week St. Joseph’s Church will host their annual Blood Drive. For the past 38 years we have come together as family to help others needing Blood. There have been many, many, times when the mem-bers of our “Church Family” had to be

given Blood. For some, it truly was the reason their life was saved. Giving Blood is easy and only takes about an hour. The realization that in that one hour you Could possibly be saving the lives of 3 people is just phenomenal. Sign up to give Blood alter all Masses this weekend or call Judy 630-628-1959 We still need people to help with the drive and to offer to bake for our donors.

(St. Alphonsus Liguori, 1696-1787, Italian bishop and founder of the Redemptorists, was pro-claimed a doctor of the Church and is patron of con-fessors and moralists. Feast: August 1.) CHANGE OUR LIVES

In today’s first reading, Jonah, sent by God to warn the people, storms through Nineveh, frightening the citizens out of their wits. It works! They repent before Jonah makes his way through a third of the city, and God sees “by their actions” how they have turned from evil. Then we hear Paul telling the Corinthians that “the world in its present form is passing away.” He calls for a change of heart. He stops short of telling them to set aside their everyday lives, but still he urges them—rather myste-riously—to live as though they aren’t doing the things they’re doing. Finally, Jesus stands on the shore and cries, “The king-dom of God is at hand!” The apostles-to-be abandon their nets and follow him. Thus in all the readings we hear an invitation to a radical and immediate change in our lives. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

CAMBIEMOS NUESTRAS VIDAS

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Around the Diocese THE 2015 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL APPEAL "EXTENDING GOD'S MERCY"

Bishop Conlon's mailing asking for a pledge to the 2015 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal (CMAA) is in the hands of many of our parishioners. If you have re-ceived the mailing, please respond as soon as possible. If you have not received it, please contact our parish office at PHONE NUMBER.

This year, the theme of the Appeal is "Extending God's Mercy." Pope Francis recently said that Mercy "goes beyond in such a way that sin is put to the side. It is like heaven. We look at the sky, there are many, many stars; but when the sun rises in the morning, the light is such that we can't see the stars. God's mercy is like that: a great light of love and tenderness."

We are called by the Gospel to be a light unto others. By showing mercy to those in need, by helping build the kingdom of God in our own parish and our own diocese, we are like the morning light. Please shine bright by making a generous gift to the CMAA.

The CMAA funds the mission and ministries of our dio-cese. It also funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish. For example, funds sup-port... INSERT SOME OF THE MINISTRIES IN YOUR PARISH THAT RECEIVE TRAINING OR OTHER FORMS OF SUPPORT. Don't forget....

Please answer the bishop's request and make a gener-ous pledge. All pledges can be paid in 10 installments. Thank you in advance for your support. World Wide Marriage Encounter

The Responsorial Psalm today says, “Teach me your ways, O Lord!” Do we allow the Lord to teach us His ways so that we can love and honor our spouse more each day? Let the Lord strengthen, renew, and rekin-dle your marriage sacrament by attending a World-wide Marriage Encounter Weekend on February 13-15, 2015 or April 17-19, 2015 or June 12-14, 2015, all at Elk Grove Village, IL. Early registration is highly recommended. For reservations/information, call Jim & Kris at 630-577-0778 or contact us through http://wwme-chicagoland.org .

Diocesan Pilgrimage Announced WORLD MEETING OF FAMILIES WITH POPE FRANCIS IN PHILADELPHIA THIS SEPTEMBER

For the first time, the World Meeting of Families will be held in the United States, and Pope Francis will make his first trip here to attend it. Held every three years since 1994, this event will take place in Philadel-phia from September 22 to September 27 of 2015. The World Meeting consists of a pastoral/theological conference which runs from Tuesday afternoon to Fri-day afternoon, followed by a Festival of Families on Saturday, which culminates in welcoming Pope Francis to Philadelphia. On Sunday morning, all attending will celebrate the Eucharist with Pope Francis at an outdoor mass. Early estimates are that 1 to 2 million people will attend the mass. Although there is no cost to attend the weekend events with the Pope, those who wish to attend the pastoral/theological conference must go to www.worldmeeting2015.org to register and pay the conference fee. The diocese is sponsoring a pilgrim-age, arranged by Canterbury Pilgrimages and Tours, which will handle all travel and hotel arrangements for those who wish to join the diocesan group. For more information about the diocesan tour group, please go to www.dioceseofjoliet.org/familyministry.

Stewardship Thought for the Week

In today’s Scripture passage, God inspires Jonah to listen to the Lord’s call, and warn the people of Nineveh to turn away from evil and repent. In St. Mark’s Gospel, Jesus calls Simon-Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow Him. They respond immediately, leaving their fishing businesses and families — in essence, sacrificing everything — to become His disciples. Their actions were considered radical even in Jesus’ day, and would be even more so in today’s world. As disciples striving to embrace stewardship as a way of life, are we, too, willing to sacrifice all we have for the Kingdom of God? Sunday, January 18, 2015
