A Note from our PastorFather Mark Arnzen
As we begin our Lenten season I offer you this quote from Archbishop Charles Chaput where he writes, "Sinnershide among the saints, and saints among the sinners. Only God knows the truth of each person. And only he canwinnow the wheat from the chaff at the end of time. Meanwhile the two cities interpenetrate and overlap. That leavesChristians with the task of seeking to live their faith well in a fallen world." (p. 13 "Strangers in a Strange Land")Archbishop Chaput is commenting on St. Augustine of Hippo's work "City of God" and the difficult question of sin andwhy Christians continue to sin even knowing the love of God and the blessing of mercy. When I first read this booklast year I had underlined this quote and later made a small version that has been sitting on the table in my prayerspace which helps me to do my nightly examen as I prepare for bed. I use it because it reminds me that I am calledto be a saint but sadly I continue to be a sinner. And while it try to hide my sins among some saintly qualities I alsoknow God sees my totality and calls me to seek repentance and healing...to live my faith well in a fallen world. Social Justice Ministry Opportunity at St. LucyMarch 17
Have you ever felt powerless to do anything about a problem orconcern that affects you or someone you know? (for example, thelack of affordable housing, health care, drug use, homelessness,unemployment, mental health services) Many others haveexperienced the same issues. Individually, we have very little power tomake a difference. Together with many others, our voices will have amuch stronger influence in addressing the Social Justice issues andconcerns within and beyond our Community. Here is an opportunityto get involved and make a difference. A core team consisting of St.Lucy's and St. Thomas of Canterbury members has been meeting andattending training to prepare and launch a community HouseMeeting. These are meetings of small groups where we will listen toeach other as we share our stories and experiences, developrelationships, and discover talents and interests. March 17th from 3pm to 4:15pm in the Gym.

Rediscover JesusThis Lent
This year we will be returning to Matthew Kelly's book Rediscover Jesus to help us in our Lenten journey. We prayedwith this book a few years ago and in conversations with parishioners and staff it was recommended we review ourfaith and knowledge of Jesus in re-reading and praying once more with Rediscover Jesus. I would encourage you todig through your books at home and find the copy your family was given two years ago. We will have a limitednumber of "extra" copies available for new parishioners and those who have misplaced the book. It took me a littlewhile looking through my bookshelves to find my copy so I hope that you are able to find yours.
