Fisher Fund Raiser The Fischer Family Fundraiser Committee raised over $5,000 for the Fischer Family. As you probably know, Vinnie Fischer and his wife Mikayla were in a horrific car accident a few of months ago and have had a very long recovery period. I am grateful for Betty Lasker and Gloria Janik for their work on this wonderful event. Thanks also to Tom Chesery and the Veterans who prepared the pasta for the evening. It was a job well done for sure. From the Fischer's:
Dear St. Paul Family: A very special thanks to Fr. Robert and the Friars, fundraiser committee, Thurston Foods, facility coor-dinators, cooks, servers, confirmation youth, donors, and ALL in attendance at the Pasta Dinner on Sat-urday evening. The generous OUTPOURING of love and support by EVERYONE blessed our hearts emotionally as well as financially. Your gift is a tangible provision towards the medical, home renovation and support services needed by our family. We thank you for the amazing way you have lifted us up. Vinny is relearning how to walk using a full leg pros-thesis. This blessing fills him with such joy. Mikayla struggles with ongoing nerve pain. They both are grateful for your ongoing prayers as they adjust to their new life together. God has been gracious and good to us. Gratefully, Bob and Dawn Fischer Lilies Just a reminder, please feel free to take any lilies which are left on the side of the Church both at St. Paul and Sacred Heart. They are your lilies. You paid for them, and it would make us all happy if they became a part of your gar-dens. Please don’t take more than two per family so others can also enjoy them in their gardens.
Confirmations Just a reminder: Our Confirmation will be at the Ca-thedral this year. Our young people will be sitting on the right side of the middle aisle facing the altar. So that you can get a glimpse of them, it would be to your advantage to also sit as far up as you can on the right side of the aisle. Just so you know, we have been informed that two other churches will be joining us for the celebration. They are St. Mary Church in Simsbury and St. Fran-cis Church in New Britain. In total 180 young adults will be confirmed. Parking is always a challenge at the Cathedral, so I would encourage you to get there early. First Communions Once again we will be celebrating our First Commun-ions during the regular Sunday Masses. Children will receive their First Communions at the 9:00, 10:30 and 12:00 Masses on April 29th and at the 9:00 and 10:30 Masses on May 6th. There will be a First Communion Mass at Sacred Heart at 9:30 on May 6th as well. Last year everyone was thrilled that the First Com-munions were celebrated during Sunday Masses. Obviously, there will be more people and confusion at the First Communion Masses. If these things both-er you, feel free to choose another Mass to attend on those weekends. Little Daniel Pavano I had hoped to give an update on the condition of our youngest parishioner, little Daniel Pavano, who is only 4 days old today. As I type this, he and his Mom (Brandy) and Dad (Michael) continue to wait for his surgery to connect his stomach and esophagus. Our Parish Facebook page will have the most up to date information on his condition. Brandy and Michael are so grateful for all of the support and prayers. Over 7000 people have viewed their prayer request and promised prayers. God Bless, Fr. Robert

SPRING 2018 BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUP
Saint Paul Parish invites parishioners to participate in the Spring “New Day” Sup-port Group held at the Parish Center on Tuesday evenings (6:30 – 8 PM) from April 17 – June 12, 2018. The program offers a supportive atmosphere of care and understanding for those grieving the loss of a loved one. Details and registration brochures are available at the church entrances.
Our Youth Minister and two of his core team volunteers reached out to our college students that attend the Catholic University of America in the nations capital. Three students joined them for a nice dinner. The stu-dents are focused on their studies and greatly im-
pressed the youth ministry team.
Friar Tim, who is studying at the same university, also joined them for dinner and gives his best to all of us here at St. Paul's. He assured us of his prayers. What

The Spectrum of Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), often characterized by social-interaction difficulties, challenges in communication, and the tendency to engage in repetitive behaviors appears to be on the rise. Its prevalence in the United States has increased since researchers first started tracking it in the year 2000. As Christians, and as advocates for a culture which values and proclaims the dignity intrinsic in each human life, it is heartening to see that there here has been significant growth in awareness, understanding, and acceptance and of individuals affected by ASD. Yet, there is still much to learn and more growth necessary.
April is Autism Awareness week
SCRIPTURE STUDY PROGRAM The next study for St. Paul’s Scripture Study Program will begin the week of April 24th. The name of the study is Pil-grim People.
We will, once again, use Little Rock’s study commentary which will help us explore
important dimensions of what it means to be a people who belong to God and whose lives are a pilgrimage of faith. This study will bring us from parts of Genesis through parts of the New Testament. It will consist of 5 weekly sessions and begin the week of April 24th.
As we have always done with this Scripture Study Program, we study the Bible passages outlined in the Little Rock com-mentary for about 20 minutes a day and meet in small groups at one of our group member’s homes for about an hour and a half each week to discuss our answers to ques-tions from the study guide.
It involves a commitment in order to stay on track but we have found this method of study to be most rewarding be-cause it causes you to think about God’s word all week long. The best part is our weekly meetings. Here, we get to pray together for a short time, share our thoughts about God’s word and socialize for a short while at the end of the meeting.

NEWS FROM OUR ST. CLARE FOOD PANTRY This project’s success is possible only through the many who donate food items and volunteers who help out at each mass sorting the food, transport-ing the product from St. Paul’s to Sa-cred Heart, and finally setting up and distributing the food on Food Share Fridays. We will no longer have volunteer signups in the bulle-tin or online. We do ask for your continued support at which ever mass you attend. Please spend 15 minutes before mass collecting food at the church entrances, and a short time after mass stocking the pantry. Your support of food donations is needed and appreciated.

My friend has never heard of Christ and I want to share the Gospel with her but I'm afraid to. How do I share my faith?
There are a lot of ways to bring up the topic of religion, without being judgmental or pushy.
Begin by asking what her thoughts are about religion, or what her experience was growing up. Finding common ground is often easier than you think, be-cause the questions and problems we have about God, the presence of evil, our purpose in life, and our relationship with God are universal concerns. Why are you afraid? If you do not want to insult or offend someone, don't be pushy or judgmental. If you are uncertain about how to explain your own faith, do a little reading or practice with a friend. If you measure success only by this person converting, fo-cus your attention more on beginning the conversation, not on bringing it to a perfect close! Faith is a journey of many acts of belief, many discussions about God, and many choices about how we practice what we preach. In some we will have great success; in others we will need forgiveness and perseverance. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the Holy Spirit is always at work and our most humble efforts can bear great fruit.
Have faith in God because he has faith in you!

Mia Restaurant at the Hawthorne (2421 Berlin Turnpike, Berlin) on Tuesday, May 8th. The dinner menu will be your choice of sliced beef ten-derloin, stuffed pork loin, or stuffed shrimp.
