Dear Parishioners, June 1, 2019 For the nine months ended March 31, 2019, St. Simon Church posted a surplus of approximately $125,000, compared to a budgeted surplus of $176,000. Total Church income came in 3% under budget (actual of $1.582m compared to budget of $1.625m) with a shortfall to budget in Sunday Collections offset by higher than planned Gifts and Other Income in the current quarter. Other income included approximately $280,000 from the biennial auction. Sunday Collections continue to lag both budget, 10% behind, and last year, 3% behind. While the timing of Easter had an effect (Easter was in March 2018 and April 2019) there is a need to increase Sunday collections and please consider increasing your support. The auction is every other year and a wonderful, and successful, fundraiser but in essence variable income and we need to always break even from collections and gifts. Total Church expenses were essentially on budget for both the quarter and nine month period ended March 31, 2019, respectively, as we have keep a tight lid on spending. The School ended the first nine months of the fiscal year with an operating surplus of approximately $88,000, which was $159,000 less than the budgeted surplus of $247,000. Tuition for the first nine months remains under budget by approximately $53,000 due to the mix of in-Parish versus out-of-Parish tuition. The School expenses were above budget for both the quarter and the year-to-date period through March 31, 2019 due to higher than budgeted health benefits and salaries and required expenditures for textbooks and other learning materials which were not budgeted. The nine months ended March 31, 2019 also included $83,000 in capital expenditures, as outlined in the notes below, which is considerably less than the $206,000 spent in the nine months ended March 31, 2018, thus preserving cash flow. Year to date, The Teacher Endowment Fund (TEF) had investment income of $21,000, an unrealized gain of $10,000 and expenses of $48,000 primarily for funding teacher programs as outlined in the TEF charter. The net of all of these items is a year to date loss of $17,000. At March 31, 2019, the total assets of the TEF were approximately $1.64 million. The St. Simon Parish Endowment for Tuition Assistance was launched in October 2017 with the objective of providing tuition support to enable families with a financial need to enroll their children at Saint Simon School. Gifts made to the endowment will be matched up to $250,000 via a matching program provided by a St. Simon family. Your past generosity led to a wonderful start to the Endowment but we have stalled in our fundraising. While gifts of $125,000 have been made, we have raised only $16,000 in the last 6 months and time will run out in October 2019 to receive the match. Any gift amount counts and the leverage factor of many gifts is significant! Please go to http://parish.stsimon.org/stsimonparishendowments to learn more about the St. Simon Parish Endowment for Tuition Assistance, and the links to give online. In addition, look for an upcoming bulletin insert which will go through the details of Saint Simon financial aid and a further update on this endowment. We believe in transparency in the financial operations of St. Simon Church and School. Complete financial statements are available for your review in the parish office. If you have any questions, please contact any of the Parish Finance Council members. Thank you for your continued gifts of time, treasure and talent.

Sincere regards, St. Simon Parish Finance Council, Don McGovern - Chair Iris Mejias - Co-Chair Roger Biscay Joshua Bligh John Cadeddu Christine Doyle Fr. Maurice Igboreka Fr. Warwick James Renee Jordan Anthony Matusich Joan Mibach Fr. Mendie Nguyen Ryan Roth Nick Tsiagkas
