SACRED HEART OF JESUS
Whether statues or stained glass, the im-age of the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be
found in churches all over the world. Jesus looks down, one hand extended out and another pointing to a heart wreathed in
thorns and glowing with light. In the Sacred Heart, we see both the sorrow and the joy of the life of Christ, who became one of us out of love. "Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life, his agony, and his Passion and gave himself
up for each one of us. He has loved us all with a human heart" (CCC 478). In the Incarnation, God becomes man. Jesus experienced the fullness of humanity, including its sufferings. June 8th is the
Feast of the Sacred Heart. We remember all that Jesus endured for us. We also re-
member why he endured it -- out of love.
Messages from Fr. Coon
CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION Sunday, June 3 is the
annual Solemnity of Corpus Christi. At 5:00 PM, everyone is
invited to gather in St. John’s Church and then process with
the Blessed Sacrament to three prepared altars. As we proc-
ess, we will sing Eucharistic hymns to our Lord, and at the altars,
we will have Benediction. After concluding our procession back
in church around 6:00 PM, everyone is invited to some refresh-
ments provided by the St. John PCCW in the St. Anne’s room.
MASS AT WOODLAND HILLS NURSING HOME this
month will be on June 17 at 6:00 PM. The Activity Room there
is not available that day at our usual 1:00 PM time.
St. Anthony’s Feast Day is, June 13. But we will celebrate our
patron Feast Day at St. Anthony’s next Sunday, June 10.
Men from St. Anthony’s will prepare hamburgers and hotdogs,
and the ladies will provide other food items. We plan to eat at
5:30 PM in the Glennon Hall. After eating, feel free to stay and
visit; or play cards, board games, or outdoor games that you
bring; or if you have another commitment feel free to leave as
soon as you need to in order to get there on time. This is a
special way to come together as parish family to celebrate our
Feast Day.
ST. ANTHONY PARISHIONERS, because of Fr.’s anniver-
sary celebration this coming Saturday, our Holy Hour with
Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction will be on June 9.
IF YOU WILL BE AWAY this summer on a weekend, and so
will need to celebrate Mass some place else, you may find Mass
times at www.masstimes.org.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE THE CHURCH’S special Blessing
for travelers before leaving on a trip this summer, please call Fr.
at 238-3300 ext. 2 to schedule a time. The blessing takes about 10
minutes to celebrate.
DOG OWNERS LIVING IN THE VICINITY of St. John
Church are asked to do their best to keep their dogs out of the
fountains in the Prayer Garden. Dog hair and the mud from their
paws damage the water pumps, sometimes beyond repair. New
pumps are expensive to purchase and require a lot time and
effort to install. Thank you for your help in keeping dogs out
of the fountains.
Annual Wedding Anniversary Celebrations Preparations are underway for the annual Diocesan Wedding
Anniversary Celebration to take place on Sunday, September 20
at 2:30 PM in St. Mary Cathedral in Cape. The event includes a
special Mass with Bishop Rice followed by a reception. Couples
celebrating their 1st, 10th, 25th, 50th, or 50+ Anniversary are
invited to attend! Please call Cindy at 238-3300 ext. 1 or
208-3265 to pre-register.
