From the Pastor Dear Parishioners: Today the church celebrates the joy of the Feast of the Holy Family. Mary, Joseph, and Jesus. If during Christmas we focused our attention on Jesus Christ, today we widen the focus over these three persons upon the manger. When God created the history of salvation, he did not choose a big scene to perform his salvation. He used the human way and worked with it to demonstrate his love for us. He allowed Mary and Joseph to educate his son in the Israel faith and traditions. The holy family had challenges and difficulties as our families have today. Certainly, the issues are different but the core values remain the same. A part of Jesus’ identity of who he was, was shaped certainly by the role Mary and Joseph had in his early years. The same is true for us, a good percentage of our identity has been defined by the role, the example and the education we received from our parents or those who played that role for us. You probably have noticed that perhaps you have the same approach to life like your mom or dad, or that you picked up your parent's sense of humor, or the responsibility in life, or the way you are in some areas of your life. Some good qualities as well as some not so good qualities which we have come from what we learn from our families. It is in our families where we learn to be kind to one another, from our parents we learn how to forgive, how to develop good relationships, and more importantly the value of faith. This is a feast also where we need to thank God for the Christian values we have learned from our families, the time and dedication they spent for us. The faith they have passed on to us, the values and virtues they poured out in our hearts, the moral standards they gave us in life as well as asking the Lord to heal any divisions and tensions that may be a part of our families. I want to thank you for your generosity through the Christmas collection, and I wish you a happy New Year. May God bless you with good resolutions to grow more in the love of Christ. I will keep you in my prayers at this time that I will be on vacation visiting my family in Colombia and celebrating my mom’s 80th birthday; I will be back on January 17th. In Jesus and Mary,
Queridos feligreses: Hoy la iglesia celebra la alegría de la fiesta de la
Sagrada Familia. María, José y Jesús. Si durante la Navidad centramos nuestra atención en Jesucristo, hoy
ampliamos el enfoque sobre estas tres personas en el pesebre. Cuando Dios crea la historia de la salvación,
no eligió una gran escena para realizar su salvación. Él usa la manera humana y trabaja con ella para
demostrar su amor por nosotros. Él permite que María y José eduquen a su hijo en la fe y tradiciones de Israel.
La sagrada familia tuvo desafíos y dificultades como nuestras familias hoy en día. Ciertamente, los
problemas son diferentes, pero los valores centrales siguen siendo los mismos.
Una parte de la identidad de Jesús de quién era, se formó con certeza por el papel que María y José
tuvieron en sus primeros años. Lo mismo es cierto para nosotros, un buen porcentaje de nuestra identidad ha sido definido por el rol, el ejemplo y la educación que
recibimos de nuestros padres o de quienes desempeñaron ese papel para nosotros.
Probablemente hayas notado que quizás tengas el mismo enfoque de la vida como tu mamá o papá, o que
hayas aprendido el sentido del humor de tus padres, o la responsabilidad en la vida, o la forma en que eres en algunas áreas o en tu vida. Algunas buenas cualidades, así
como algunas cualidades no tan buenas las aprendimos de nuestras familias.
Es en nuestras familias donde aprendemos a ser amables unos con
otros, desde nuestros padres aprendemos cómo perdonar, cómo desarrollar buenas relaciones y, lo que es más importante, el valor de la fe. Esta es una fiesta en la que también debemos agradecer a Dios por los valores cristianos que hemos aprendido de nuestras
familias, el tiempo y la dedicación que dedicaron a nosotros. La fe que nos han transmitido, los valores y
las virtudes que derramaron en nuestros corazones, las normas morales que nos dieron en la vida así como
también le pedirle al Señor que sane las divisiones y tensiones que puedan ser parte de nuestras familias.
Quiero agradecerles por su generosidad a través de la colecta de navidad, y les deseo un feliz año nuevo. Que
Dios te bendiga con buenas resoluciones para crecer más en el amor de Cristo. Les tendré presente en mis
oraciones en este momento en que estaré de vacaciones visitando a mi familia en Colombia y
celebrando el 80 cumpleaños de mi madre; Volveré el 17 de enero.
