PERSISTENCE Today’s readings are about persistence, passion-ate persistence. Exodus tells of a battle won de-spite weariness because Moses, with help from Aaron and Hur, held his hands raised. Timothy asks that same persistence of his community and us. Luke tells of a court case won by a widow, de-spite the dishonesty of the judge, because she will not leave him alone. The psalm reminds us that God is everywhere, guarding us from harm day and night, coming and going, now and forev-er. The readings are about persistence, the re-lentless, unwavering pursuit of what must not be lost. The readings are about God’s passionate persistence in pursuing us, seeking to win our hearts.

PRAYER GROUP

We will have the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday, No-vember 1st, from 9:30am to 5pm. Please come and join us for Adora-tion on this First Friday. We invite you to sign up for an hour of adora-tion. The sign-up sheet is on the

parish bulletin board in the church hall. Please consider signing up for an hour to ensure we have every hour covered, and hopefully more than one person per hour can come. On November 1st we will be celebrating mass at 9am and 5:30pm in celebration of All Saints Day. We will not have a mass at 12pm.

Every week, as many of you know, we are always about one thousand dollars short of what is needed to meet our parish financial needs. I was very concerned during the summer because unfortunately, when religious education classes are finish, parents do not bring their children to Mass and attend-ance goes down. This affects our collection and our parish budget. As I explained before, the reason why we have been able to meet our financial needs is because people have given contributions to our parish throughout the year. These donations are given only once. My concern has always been that people will stop making these contributions and we will not be able to meet the financial needs of the parish. I would urge all of you to continue to financially support our parish so that we will be able to meet our weekly financial needs. I thank you for your constant support of our parish of St Thomas.

PASTOR’S MESSAGE

All Saints' Day is a solemn holy day in the Cath-olic Church celebrated annually on November 1st. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. It should not be confused with All Souls' Day, which is observed on November 2nd, and is dedicated to those who have died and not yet reached heaven. All Saints' Day is a Catholic Ho-ly Day of Obligation, meaning all Catholics are required to attend Mass on that day, unless they have an excellent excuse, such as serious illness. On November 2nd we celebrate the faithful de-parted, best known as All Souls which reminds us the living to pray for the departed that they may rise again as promised by Jesus to his fol-lowers. All Souls Day is not a Holy Day of Obli-gation, but we dedicate the month of November to pray for all the departed. To celebrate All Saints we will have a vigil mass on Thurs-day, October 31st at 7pm and mass on Fri-day, November 1st at 9:00am and 5:30pm.

En la Iglesia de Santo Tomás tene-mos la Adoración del Santísimo Sa-cramento el viernes 1 de noviembre de 9:30am a 5pm. El Santísimo Sa-cramento estará expuesto en la cus-todia en el altar para Adoración y oración hasta las 10pm y la misa se

celebrará a las 12pm en Ingles. Por favor venga y acompáñenos para la Adoración en este primer viernes. Invitamos que personas se registren para una Hora Santa. La hoja de inscripción está en el tablero de anuncios en el salón de la iglesia. Considere inscribirse durante una hora para asegurarse de que tengamos por lo menos un adorador por hora, y si es posible más de una persona por hora.

Cada semana, como muchos de ustedes saben, siempre nos faltan unos mil dólares para cubrir las ne-cesidades financieras de nuestra parroquia. Estuve muy preocupado durante el verano porque des-afortunadamente, cuando las clases de educación religiosa terminan, los padres no traen a sus hijos a misa y la asistencia disminuye. Esto afecta nuestra colecta y nuestro presupuesto parroquial. Como expliqué antes, la razón por la que hemos podido cumplir con nuestras necesidades financieras es porque algunas personas han dado unas contribuciones nuestra parroquia durante el año. Estas do-naciones son solo una vez. Mi preocupación siempre ha sido que la gente deje de hacer estas contribu-ciones y no podamos satisfacer las necesidades financieras de la parroquia. Les invito a todos a que sigan apoyando financieramente a nuestra parroquia para que podamos satisfacer nuestras necesida-des financieras semanales. ADORACIÓN AL SANTÍSIMO

Los papás y padrinos son los educadores principales en la fe del niño o niña. Por esta razón, los papás y padrinos deben asistir a UNA PLATICA para aprender de las responsabilidades que tienen ha-cia el crecimiento espiritual del niño o niña. Estas platicas se llevan acabo el

cuarto Jueves de cada mes a las 7:00pm en la iglesia. Les pedimos que por favor lleguen a las 6:45pm para registrarse para que su asistencia sea valida. Para mas información y requisitos por favor de llamar a la oficina parroquial al (707) 255-2949. En el mes de octu-bre la plática se ofrecerá el jueves 24 a las 7:00pm.

CLASE DE BAUTISMO

El Día de Todos los Santos es un día sagrado so-lemne en la Iglesia Católica que se celebra anual-mente el 1 de noviembre. El día está dedicado a los santos de la Iglesia, es decir, a todos los que han alcanzado el cielo. No debe confundirse con el Día de los Fieles Difuntos, que se observa el 2 de noviembre, y está dedicado a aquellos que han muerto y aún no han llegado al cielo. El Día de Todos los Santos es un Día Santo Católico de Obligación, lo que significa que todos los católi-cos deben asistir a Misa ese día, a menos que tengan una excusa, como una enfermedad grave. El 2 de noviembre celebramos a los fieles difun-tos, que nos recuerda a los vivos rezar por los difuntos para que puedan resucitar según lo pro-metido por Jesús a sus seguidores. El Dia de los Fieles Difuntos no es un día de obligación para los católicos, mas bien dedicamos todo el mes de noviembre para hacer nuestras suplicas a Dios por nuestros seres queridos que hay fallecido y que no han llegado a la presencia de Dios. Jesus told his disciples a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary. He said, "There was a judge in a certain town who neither feared God nor respected any human being. And a widow in that town used to come to him and say, 'Render a just decision for me against my adversary.' For a long time the judge was unwilling, but eventually he thought, 'While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.'" The Lord said, "Pay attention to what the dishonest judge says. Will not God then secure the rights of his chosen ones who call out to him day and night? Will he be slow to answer them? I tell you, he will see to it that justice is done for them speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?"

En aquel tiempo, para enseñar a sus discípulos la necesidad de orar siem-pre y sin desfallecer, Jesús les pro-puso esta parábola: "En cierta ciu-dad había un juez que no temía a Dios ni respetaba a los hombres. Vi-vía en aquella misma ciudad una viu-da que acudía a él con frecuencia pa-ra decirle: 'Hazme justicia contra mi adversario'. Por mucho tiempo, el juez no le hizo caso, pero después se dijo: 'Aunque no temo a Dios ni res-peto a los hombres, sin embargo, por

la insistencia de esta viuda, voy a hacerle justi-cia para que no me siga molestando' ". Dicho esto, Jesús comentó: "Si así pensaba el juez in-justo, ¿creen acaso que Dios no hará justicia a sus elegidos, que claman a él día y noche, y que los hará esperar? Yo les digo que les hará justi-cia sin tardar. Pero, cuando venga el Hijo del hombre, ¿creen ustedes que encontrará fe so-bre la tierra?"
