Hello Everyone,
GENERAL FAITH NIGHTS
At Saturday night, we celebrated our
Opening School Year Mass.
At this mass we welcomed our new
families to our school community and
parish, whilst welcoming back our
existing families. We are looking for-
ward to an exciting 2019 school year.
Next Tuesday, 19th February and Thursday, 21st February, commencing
at 7.00pm, the school will host two General Faith Nights in the church.
We will be joined by other sacramental parents from Sacred Heart,
Diamond Creek and St Mary’s, Greensborough.
We expect these sessions to run for about one hour. If you haven’t booked
into one of these sessions could you do so as soon as possible. Fr Steve
and Fr Lenin will be facilitating these identical nights so it should be
very interesting.
PARENT TEACHER INFORMAL CHATS
On Tuesday and Wednesday night we hosted our annual Parent/Teacher Chats. These were very
well attended. Hopefully some valuable information was passed onto your child’s teacher that can
be used to assist their learning this year. If you need to talk to your child’s teacher you can make an
appointment in person, via email or by calling the office. Staff are unavailable on Tuesday and
Wednesday nights as they have formal meetings are which makes it hard to meet on these nights.
When making an appointment, provide a brief statement describing what the meeting regards and
a mutual time for the meeting will be negotiated. Staff will acknowledge emails within 24 hours or
their next working day and emails will be responded to between 8.30am and 5.00pm Monday to
Friday.
ENRICHMENT AND CARE
Last Monday fourteen parents and staff attended the first SCA meeting of the year. It was a very
productive and enthusiastic meeting. The SCA really want to connect with the school community
and will regularly contribute to the newsletter and inform you of any of their initiatives.
PARENT PROTOCOL POLICY
Please see the attached Parent Protocol Policy at the end of this newsletter. It can also be found on
our school website. It was ratified by the School Board last year and clearly states how we communi-
cate with each other and deal with issues within the school.
DISTRICT SWIMMING
Last Friday we held our swimming trials for the upcoming Eltham
District Swimming competition. We congratulate the students who
attended the trials. Based on these swimming trial times Mr Wals
will select a team to compete at the Eltham District Swimming
completion on Friday, 22nd February, at Watermarc.
It is very important that all children learn to swim and this is fun-
damentally a parent responsibility. We do provide lessons to our
Prep – Year 2 students however this isn’t sufficient to develop long
term swimming stamina and skills. There have been twenty-two drownings over this summer alone
so all children need to be able to swim confidently.
PREP 2020
It may sound ludicrous, but we are already receiving and accepting
Prep enrolments for 2020. If you have a sibling due to start Prep
next year, enrolment forms are available from Carly and Francine
in the office.

RE NEWS
ENRICHMENT AND CARE
Welcome to 2019 in the Library
Library Bags
Each student must have their own school library bag.
Parents are asked to support the school by teaching your child(ren) to be
responsible for looking after library books.
Teachers take their classes to visit the library each week.
Students will be asked to bring their library bag on their allocated li-
brary day. It’s suggested that they keep this in their school bag.
No library bag means - no borrowing.
Overdue Books
A reminder letter will go home if a student has an overdue book after two weeks.
If a student has a well overdue book, an account of $15.00 will be sent home.
Overdue books means - no borrowing.
Damaged Books
If a student returns a book and it is damaged, a letter will be sent home with an
invoice to have that book replaced.
Replacement library Bags
If a student should lose a library bag they are available from the School Office or Uniform Shop at a
cost of $20.00.
It is important that as a school community we are all responsible in looking after school resources.
Thank you for your understanding and support. Please feel free to pop in and look at our wonderful
library. Students are welcome to browse and are encouraged to borrow before and after school if I
am there.
Kindest regards,
Michelle
