SCRIPTURE CORNER GOD’S WORK We are so busy! Most of us have more than one job to do, and we never seem to have enough time. We are workers, volunteers, parents, friends, and most of us are more than one thing at a time. But which of these is the work of God? We seldom view our ordinary work as being the work of God. We may think that we have to be ministers or priests, missionaries or charity workers, engaged full-time in works formally identified as being “God’s work.” But everything we do with a faithful heart and with love for others is God’s work. We each have our own role to fill in the world, and many gifts are necessary. We cannot always see the direct connection of our daily work to the plan of God. But we trust and we believe that God leads us to do what is needed, where it is needed. What is “God’s work?” “This is the work of God, that you believe in the one He sent” (John 6:29). WHAT IS RCIC AND RCIT? Rite of Christian Initiation for Children and Teens is open to all children between the ages of 8-17 (3rd thru 11th grade), unbaptized or baptized. These classes are de-signed to educate children/teens in the Catholic faith and prepare them for the sacraments of Baptism, Confirma-tion, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil and/or the Sunday following. Whether your family is just entering the Church, returning to the practice of the Catholic faith, or delayed your child’s sacramental preparation, all are wel-come. Our RCIC classes are for children in 3rd thru 5th grade and are held on Sundays from 10:10 to 11:20 am (same time as SRE). Ms. Sue Hoffman and Dr. Carol Lewando teach these classes. Our RCIT classes are for teens in 6th thru 11th grade and are held on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:15 pm (same time as SRE). Ms. Judy Smith, Ms. Tara Meleones, and Ms. Murph Fortenberry lead these catechetical sessions. All classes are held in the SRE building (School of Religious Education Cen-ter). Please contact Sr. Cecilia for additional information.

VOLUNTEERS FOR SRE The success of our SRE program here at St. Thomas depends on the dedication of many volunteers. We are always in NEED of more volun-teers to provide the best for our children/s and teen’s faith formation. Please let Sr. Cecilia know if you are interest-ed in helping.

guide them. Mold them into the likeness and holiness of Your Son, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest. May their lives be pleasing to You. In Jesus name we pray. AMEN.

Week#4-TheBodyandBloodofChrist In this informative presentation, Dr. Scott Hahn, a former Presbyterian minister, provides the biblical basis for the Church's teaching on the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and the signi icance of the Feast of Corpus Christi, and gives us a greater under-standing of our vocation to be the living presence of Christ in the world. Parishioner Comments This is an excellent tool for catechesis! I am using it in the 'Why Catholic?' program. Joe - Huntley, IL

Dr. Hahn explains the foundation and significance of the Feast of Corpus Christi and how we are all a part of the Body of Christ. Megan - Norwalk, CT

Reserved Blessed Sacrament: Procession Processions began when the Eu-charist was being moved from one place to another. People began to walk togeth-er behind it. These processions gradually became a regular practice when Pope Ur-bain IV established the Feast of Corpus Christi (or the Body of Christ), for the entire Church in 1264. Every procession is a sign of the pilgrim Church, the body of those who believe in Christ, on their way to Heaven.

Fall Scripture Study Daniel

Heroism and History

Some of the best known Old Testament images come from the Book of Daniel, stories like the Lion’s Den, the Writing on the Wall, and the Fiery Furnace. Yet its pro-phetic visions can be challenging to read and under-stand. Images like the array of strange creatures, the stat-ue made from different materials, the Seventy weeks, and the Son of Man ascending to the Ancient of Days chal-lenge us. At its heart, the Book of Daniel is about heroism and history. Daniel proclaims that God is in con-trol. Whether in challenges to our individual Faith, or in the grand sweep of history, God is in control. Join us as we explore this fascinating and sometimes frustrating book. Scripture study sessions are on Wednesday evenings, at 7:00, in Room B222 (second floor, Southeast corner) in the office complex, beginning September 9th, and lasting six weeks, through Wednesday, October 14th. No pre-registration is necessary. Contact: Dave Gauthier 228-864-5350.

SAVE THE DATE! Saturday August 29th, 2015 Make plans to join us for the 3rd annual Bill Seal Charity Golf Tournament at Windance Country Club. Entry forms are located in the back of the church and are also available on the FB page: Bill Seal Charity Golf Tournament. Thank you

PARISH PAYS SUBSIDY TO CATHOLIC SCHOOLS In order to lower the tuition rate for families, the parish budgets each year an amount which is paid direct-ly to the school’s operating budget. The amount varies each year based on the parish’s offering income. There are two rates of tuition at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Elementary School, St. Patrick High School and Our La-dy Academy—the lowest rate is Catholic subsidized by the parish. To be eligible for this rate for Grades K-12, a family must be registered in the parish, attend Mass here at St. Thomas regularly, and contribute to the support of the parish by using their church support envelopes or the electronic method of making regular church offerings. A form to request parish subsidy approval may be obtained from the school office and should be turned in to the par-ish office for completion. It is so important for families to attend Mass with their children. Your financial sup-port is greatly appreciated and needed.

Classes for pre-school (ages 3 and 4) and for Kindergar-ten through 5th Grade and RCIC are held on Sunday mornings from 10:10 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. in our SRE building located behind the church. Classes for lower grades begin on Sunday, September 13, 2015. Classes for 6th through 12th Graders are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Classes for upper grades and RCIT begin on Wednesday, September 16, 2015.
