All things work for good for those
who love God.— Romans 8:28a
JACKPOT
In our lottery- and sweepstakes-obsessed culture, it is
common to ask ourselves or others what they would do if
they won. In today’s first reading, Solomon certainly hits
the jackpot. What prize could be greater than having God
Almighty agree to give you whatever you ask for? Out of
all the things he could have asked for, Solomon chose to
ask for understanding, and was rewarded with it. We
would do well to wonder what we would ask for if God
made us the same offer. Actually God does make us the
same offer each and every day, by granting us another day
of life, a bit of the earth’s goods, some gift or ability,
some call to goodness, some portion of the divine will.
Each of these is a ―prize.‖ We should stop and examine
what we are going to do with our prize: keep it or use it
selfishly, or put it at the service of the spread of the gos-
pel? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

ST. VINCENT ALTAR SOCIETY 300 CLUB HISTORY OF THE 300 CLUB: The first drawing of the 300 Club was April 4, 1973. This Club was established as a
way for the Altar Society to make money to help the Parish. It was started with the approval of Fr. Corrigan, and today
we still have some of the first members. During the past year, the 300 Club donated $3,100 to the Fr. Corrigan Tuition
Assistance Fund and $2,968 for new cassocks and surplices for the altar servers. We also provided fresh flowers for the
altar each week, hams for funeral luncheons, new Christmas wreaths for the side aisles in church, and we paid for the
reception for the Confirmation class, among other things. We want to thank all of our members for their generous sup-
port. Your captain will be contacting you in the next few weeks for the new year, which starts in August. For only $1
per week, you have a chance to win $100 each week. There is a special drawing at 9 months for $250. At the end of
the 300 Club year, there are two drawings for $300 and two drawings for $200. This gives you 57 chances to win for
only $52 a year payable yearly, semi-yearly, quarterly or monthly. Drawings are held on the last Monday of the month,
to cover 4 or 5 Monday’s in the month. In case a holiday falls on that Monday, the drawing will be held on the last
Wednesday of the month. Winners will be notified by their captain. Membership limited to 300 people. You do not
have to be a member of the parish to join. WE HAVE MANY OPEN NUMBERS IN THE 300 CLUB THIS YEAR.
