Third Sunday in Ordinary Time January 24, 2016

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. -- Luke 4:18a

LIVING AS THE BODY OF CHRIST

Some of Saint Paul's best known and most beloved image-ry is contained in the passages from First Corinthians that we have heard last week and this week: the many gifts granted by the one same Spirit and the many members making up the one Body of Christ. Few passages from sacred scripture more accurately sum up how Christian vocations work together. Unlike some of Paul's other writ-ings, which are a product of the social and religious con-ventions of his time, these enable us to look at our own lives and the lives of those around us to discern what gifts, what vocations the Holy Spirit has given for the good of all. We can likewise know the joys and sorrows of the other members of the Body and share in them for the strengthening of the whole Body of Christ. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA COLLECTION Thank you for your contributions to last week’s second collection for The Catholic University of America! Your gift will make great things possible by providing direct financial aid to students from dioceses across the country. SCRIPTURE PRAYER GROUP Read the bible and pray the scripture. The Sunday readings will be the focus of a new prayer group at St. Vincent's. The scriptural Rosary and intercessory prayer will also be featured. We will discuss the challenges to our Faith and help one another become more dynamic Catholics. Join us the first and third Mondays at 7:00 PM in the Scullen Room. -Bring a bible and bring a friend! Contact Don Wilson (330) 535-4583. UNLOCKING THE MYSTERY OF THE BIBLE If you would like to have a deeper relationship with God and a better understanding of your faith, then join us for Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible. You will not only benefit personally from being part of this study; you will also help to bring about a profound renewal in our parish as we grow closer to Christ. Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible helps you uncover the story woven through Scripture with its clever narrative approach and ingenious color-coded Bible Timeline. It is a great way to get the “big picture” of the Bible and see how our Catholic Faith is rooted in Scripture. You’ll see how the Bible reveals God’s loving plan for your life, and you will learn helpful ways to put your faith into practice. The study includes a series of eight informative and engaging half-hour videos presented by Jeff Cavins. Each video will be followed by a lively group discussion. You can sign up for the study at Evangelization.com. You will receive a color-coded Bible Timeline Chart, a Bible study workbook, and the ability to stream the study videos online at your convenience. We will begin Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible on every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month (Thursday afternoons: 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the Parish Rectory and Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. –7:30 p.m.in the Scullen Room). For more information or to sign up, contact Pierre Ferrer at 330-310-6244 or Kerri Schneider at 267-234-4898. CHURCH IN LATIN AMERICA Today, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. Your gifts to the collection will fund catechesis, pastoral programs, marriage and family life projects, seminarian education, and many other necessary programs in Latin America and the Caribbean. By funding these programs, the support you give today will provide seeds to grow the faith for years to come. Please support the Church in Latin America and be generous in today’s collection. Thank you.
