WORSHIP

Kelly’s book The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic, Find Your Greatness will introduce you to four simple ways

to reach your full potential. EVENT DATE is SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2019, 9:30a.m. – 1:30p.m.

The speaker will be Jonathan Fanning. All (ages 12 & up) are invited! Get your ticket now! To find out more, or

Are you familiar with the Holy Name Prayer Line? It is a group of 30+ parishioners (called the Prayer Line Partners) who pray for anyone who is in need of prayers for any reason. It could be an illness, loss of a loved one, etc., or a special intention. We invite you to

share your prayer needs by calling Ann at the rectory (733-5823). You don’t even have to give us your name – just who (first name only, or you can say a woman, a man, a parishioner) the group would pray for and a very brief reason (i.e., surgery, illness, special intention, etc.) for the request. We compile a daily list (Monday

through Friday) and email it to the partners who have emails, and it is called in to those who do this by phone (first

person calls the second, and so on). Please contact Ann at the rectory, 733-5823, with your interest.

VOCATIONS - Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus desires that we, like his friend Mary, would spend time in his presence. Take time regularly to be with Jesus

and listen to his living word. (Luke 10:38-42) If you think God is calling you, please email

[email protected]. Website: www.myvocation.com

We encourage you to clip and save for future worship.

Prayer for Healing for Physical Pain Today I feel pain just as You felt the pain of the Crown of Thorns in Your flesh, O Lord. I know that disease is one aspect of being human, but I need Your help to accept this pain with love and understanding. Help me, Lord, increase my faith and continue to put my trust in You. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Sr. Melinda continues seeking DONATIONS of individually wrapped cookies, small candy bars,

Tootsie rolls, lollipops, granola, and packs of peanut butter crackers for the candy bags that our

parish is providing to Holy Cross to enhance their Sandwich Ministry for the homeless. Thank you!

The OPEN PANTRY is in need of Oatmeal or Hot (Healthy) Cereal, Peanut Butter, Canned

meats and Spaghetti Sauce (in plastic jars or cans, if possible) But please, we ask that you do not bring any:

Perishables of any kind (bread, potatoes, fresh vegetables, etc.), pudding or Jello. Pick-ups are

only done when we are at capacity, so perishables will go bad.

We cannot give them partially used or opened items

Also, please check expiration dates. We cannot give them items that have expired.

Thank you very much for your kindness and understanding!

Would you like to add a brick to the Holy Name Memorial Walk?

What a wonderful way to honor or remember someone special. It could be a gift for a birthday, anniversary, wedding, or any special occasion. It could be a memorial for a loved one or someone dear who has passed. This is a tribute which will be here for a very long time. Due to the complexity of the installation, all bricks must be ordered and installed at one time. Please call Ann at the rectory office, 733-5823, to receive a form (either by mail or e-mail). The deadline will be Friday, August 2nd.

Annual Catholic Appeal Report Update “Our Faith in Action”, the 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal, now has 212 donors (individuals and families) from our parish who have contributed $42,685.00. We thank everyone who has participated and everyone who is considering a donation.

The Fund for St. Michael’s Academy Sincerely Thanks You for Your Support!

THANK YOU for your AWESOME support this past fiscal year! We want to thank YOU, our parishioners, for

YOUR support and commitment in advancing the mission of St. Michael’s Academy. Your support, through

donations and box top label collections, has helped us to secure over $160,000.

As we celebrate our 10th anniversary this year, we thank all of you for your continued support of SMA and

Catholic education. Don’t forget to mark your calendars and help us celebrate two special events. Please join us on

September 29th at Holy Cross Church to celebrate our 10th Anniversary Mass at 11:00 am and on October 26th at

St. Michael’s Academy for our 10th Anniversary Gala & Auction. Your investment in our children’s future is

greatly appreciated!

SERVICE

Concerning Hospital Visits If someone in your family is in the hospital and you want to have Fr. David, Fr. Joyce or Sister Melinda visit, please call the rectory at 733-5823 and leave a message for either father or Sr. Melinda, (ext. 130). Unfortunately, a parishioner’s name is not always on the daily list of Holy Name patients; so we ask that you give us a call with the information (name, which building, room #, etc.). This way you or your loved one will be assured of a visit.

LOAVES AND FISHES

The first Monday of every month, members of our parish will gather at South Congregational Church on Maple Street to serve a meal to the hungry of our city. We are sure you will find it to be a positive and rewarding

experience, and it is so organized, it won’t take a lot of your time. American Chop Suey is the meal we serve, and you are welcome to use your own recipe. If you can help with the cooking or serving, please call Ann at the rectory, 733-5823, or if you decide to come and don’t have time to call ahead, that’s fine, too. Meals can either be dropped off between 4:15 and 4:30p.m., or stay and serve and you’ll be on your way home in an hour. You’ll find plenty of safe, off-street parking right in the church parking lot.

Special Request: During the summer and on Labor Day we have fewer parishioners to cook and serve because of vacations. If you would consider “filling in” by either cooking and/or serving, it would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

EDUCATION

Military Update….. We would like to honor and update our Military listing of parishioners who are currently in the Military, and we ask that you call the rectory if someone’s status has changed since last Veteran’s Day, or if someone has joined since then. We would like to do this in August, so please contact the office at 733-5823 in July. (If we don’t hear from you, we will gladly keep the names and ranks as they were published in the November 11

th issue of 2018.)

Mass Citizens for Life - Anti-Life Provisions in S.1209

It is critical that we stand in solidarity against this bill, which would expand & promote abortion, removing all safety nets & waiting periods. S.1209 will endanger our women, our infants, and our children by: making it legal to kill or let die a baby born alive on an abortion table; re-allocate your tax dollars & Healthy Start Funds to abortion providers; eliminate parental consent & judicial supervision for 13 or 14 year old girls taken to abortion clinics, leaving them prey to sex predators and trafficking; eliminate the regulation that women undergoing the 3-day late term abortion procedure be treated in a hospital. What can you do? Please sign up for updates & action alerts at our friends MassCitizensForLife.org/JOIN. Call and write your legislator, telling them you oppose this bill, which both sides of the abortion debate believe is extreme. You can easily look up your local legislator by going to MassCitizensForLife.Org/find-my-legislator-ma Questions? Call MCFL (617) 242-4199 ext: #221
