ACT Defined

• Standardized Test (Multiple Choice) that measures your HS achievement and is one aspect College Admissions Departments use to determine admittance to college. (Other admission considerations can be GPA, Letters of Recommendation, Class Rank)

• ACT Measures your ability in 4 areas: English, Math, Reading & Science

ACT Overview

Four Subjects:English (45 Minutes/75 Questions: Covers

Usage/mechanics & rhetorical skills)

Math (60 minutes/60 Questions: Covers Algebra, Geometry & Trigonometry)

Reading (35 minutes/40 Questions: Covers Reading Comprehension after reading various topics)

Science (35 minutes/40 Questions: Covers Science Reasoning)

***Writing (The ACT offers an optional writing section. Some colleges require the writing section. Find out if you need to take it by checking with the college you want to attend.)

ACT Scoring

The ACT is scored on a range from 1(low)-36(high). Average score is a 21.

How is the ACT scored? ACT counts the number of questions on each test that you

answered correctly. (no deduction for incorrect answers) ACT converts the # of questions correct on each section to a

“scale score”. (Ex: 32/40 questions correct on Science would equal a number between 1-36, say a “28”)

ACT averages the four subjects to give you a composite score. (Ex: Math-19, English-23, Reading-24 & Science-22 Composite Score of 22)
