What Elder Leadership Means to You
Partners in Prayer Other elders Those who seek additional prayer for
themselves Is anyone among you ill? He should summon
the elders of the church, and they should pray for him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. (James 5:14)
Unity and Harmony Decision Process
Prayer Study of the Word Fasting Unanimous decisions with the mind of Christ
guiding us For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to
advise him? But we have the mind of Christ. (I Cor. 2:16).
Everyone will seek Holy Spirit guidance to have the mind of Christ
Unanimity in decisions (1 Cor. 1:10) (Eph. 4:3) (Phil. 1:27) complete my joy and be of the same mind,
by having the same love, being united in spirit, and having one purpose (Phil 2:2)
Unity and harmony in the church begins with unity and harmony among its leaders
Defenders of the faith False teachers and those in leadership
positions whose conduct brings disgrace and shame up on the Name of Christ must not be allowed to infiltrate God's church (I Tim. 4:1-6; Titus 1:9-11; 3:9-10; I Cor. 5:12-
13).
Humility Elders are not called on to lead by force or
dictatorial power, but by precept and example Remember your leaders, who spoke God’s
message to you; reflect on the outcome of their lives and imitate their faith. (Heb. 13:7)
Not board executives (Called not Elected). Spiritual leaders (Shepherds)
Source of Counsel for members Personal concerns and conflict
(I Cor. 6:1-8).
Caring and Loving Shepherds Love must rule in all matters of leadership.
So as your fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings and as one who shares in the glory that will be revealed, I urge the elders among you: Give a shepherd’s care to God’s flock among you, exercising oversight not merely as a duty but willingly under God’s direction, not for shameful profit but eagerly. And do not lord it over those entrusted to you, but be examples to the flock. (I pet. 5:1-3)

Romans 12:1-2 "Therefore, in view of God's mercy, offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, for this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will."

The righteous cry out and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and save such as have a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous. But the Lord delivers him out of them all.
Psalm 34: 17-19
State of the ChurchNehemiah: Nehemiah saw the problems,
was distressed, the walls and gates were destroyed all around Israel.
Instead of complaining or lading in self-pity and grief, he took action.
1. Nehemiah prayed and fasted before God. Nehemiah 1:4-5 so it was when I hear these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. Neh. 1:8-9 Remember, I pray, the words You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations; but if you return to Me, and keep my commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.
2. Nehemiah took charge, he saw what was needed and put together a plan.
Neh. 2:12,13 Then I rose in the night, I and a few men with me; I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do in Jerusalem; nor were there any animals with me, except the one which I rode. And I went out by night through the Valley Gate to the Serpent Well and the Refuse gat, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down and its gates which were burn with fire.
3. He called the high priest and priests, the leaders and all the people together and shared his plans so everyone was behind him. Neh. 3:1 The first to rise, and build the first gate were the high priest and his brethren priests building the Sheep Gate. (As leaders we must not only lead by words but by action).
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and
pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sins and heal their land. 2 Chr 7:14
But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in time of trouble. And the Lord shall
help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, because they trust in
Him. Psalm 37:39-40
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you!Don’t be frightened, for I am your God!
I strengthen you – yes, I help you –
yes, I uphold you with my saving right hand!
