“Co-responsibility requires a change in mentality, particularly with regard to the role

of the laity in the Church, who should be considered not as “collaborators” with the

clergy, but as persons truly “co-responsible” for the being and activity of the Church. It is

important, therefore, that a mature and committed laity be united, who are able to make their own specific contribution to the Church’s mission, in accordance with the

ministries and tasks each one has in the life of the Church, and always in cordial communion

with the bishops”.

Benedict XVI message to the

Dear Members and Friends of the Regnum Christi Movement,

We would like to thank all of you for your hard work this past year and for your commitment to the revitalization of our

Movement. Just as Pope Benedict XVI has dedicated this year to faith, so, too, we must ask the Holy Spirit to be our guide and

to renew our hearts in faith. This is the natural extension of our theme and we know that, with your help, we will continue to

restore our relationships, our work, our business practices and our apostolic approach. Our hearts will be renewed in

faith.

The priority of RC Atlanta this year is to be engaged as one family in our spiritual renewal. This means we need to reflect on,

understand more deeply, and live out the charism that God has given us: to be apostles of the New Evangelization.

Imagine the impact if next June at our local convention each member of our Movement can stand up and explain what the

charism means to them and how they are living it out in their lives. As we participate in the renewal we continue to live our

mission of responding to the Holy Spirit’s call with joy and enthusiasm to give of ourselves to our families, our parish

communities and our Church.

This year we mark another milestone in our apostolic work in Atlanta as we celebrate our 20th

anniversary. Our gratitude and prayers are extended to the Archdiocese of Atlanta for their unwavering support of

Regnum Christi. We are also grateful to all the priests, Consecrated women and all members and friends of the Movement

who were – and are --so successful and generous in their apostolic endeavors and in bringing souls to Christ. A great gift from

God during this anniversary year will be the ordination in Rome of six (6) Legionaries from Atlanta on December 17th, 2012.

Join us again this year as part of the spiritual family of the Catholic Church in Atlanta and ask the Holy Spirit to renew each

and every one of us, those we know and love, and those we have yet to meet, in the love of Christ, and to share this love

everywhere we go.

Please know how grateful we are to your faithfulness and to your firm commitment to the Regnum

Christi Movement in Atlanta. Together, and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our hearts will be renewed in faith.

God bless you, your families and friends.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. David Daly LC and Nancy Nohrden On behalf of the Executive Committee

Together, and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, our hearts will be renewed in faith.

Celebrating 20 Years in AtlantaWe have been greatly blessed and thank God for our 20 years in Atlanta. We want to give thanks to all the Legionaries, Consecrated women and lay people who were instrumental in bringing the Movement to this area, and to all they have done – and continue to do—to help us bring souls to Christ.

When two or more are gathered, Jesus is always there, as He was in1992, when Arlene Gannon and Judy Guilfoil, uniting their common ideals, focused their efforts on opening a Catholic High School in North Atlanta. This same year Fr. Anthony Bannon was welcomed into the diocese and permissions for the laity to begin a Catholic school in North Atlanta were given. Shortly thereafter, Fr. David Kluk arrived and began the first retreats in which he welcomed the first members of the Movement. Pinecrest Academy opened in 1993 in a rented Baptist facility with 27 children and with the blessing of Archbishop John F. Donoghue.

With God’s gentle guiding hand, a success story began to take shape. In 1995, Fr. John Hopkins arrived as Chaplin of St. Pius X High School, Pure Fashion was started, and the Challenge and Conquest groups were organized along with the start of Familia. Pinecrest Academy moved to All Saints Parish and the first regular spiritual exercises began. And, with the grace of God, the first residence for the Legionaries opens in Dunwoody, and less than a year later, the first Consecrated House opened in 1996.

In 1997, Fr. John Hopkins moved to Holy Spirit Preparatory High School as chaplain and Fr. Scott Reilly replaced him at St. Pius X. Only 3 years later, through generous gifts, the Legionaries were able to purchase their current home on Spalding Drive. Land was also purchased to build a permanent campus for Pinecrest. In 1998, Pinecrest Academy moved to the new campus. Also the same year, the first International Youth & Family Encounter was organized in Atlanta.

In 2004, the Territorial Directorate was moved to Atlanta, and Fr. Scott Reilly was named Territory Director. In 2009, through a generous donation, the Consecrated House opened in Cumming, GA. In 2011, the second Legionary Community was established in Alpharetta.

RC and Consecrated Personnel

At the present time, there are thirteen (13) priests, four (4) brothers and twenty (20) Consecrated women serving in the Atlanta area. A snapshot of some of our activity follows.

Regnum Christi Mission Corps

The Regnum Christi Mission Corps volunteers are young men and women who have decided to give 1-2 years of their lives to serve the Church full time. In Atlanta this year, the program will include five (5) young men and four (4) young women.

Regnum Christi Sections

The Regnum Christi Movement includes six (6) “sections”: adult men and women, young men and women, adolescent boys and girls. These groups receive spiritual formation with the goal of helping them to live their baptism fully as a call to holiness and their confirmation grace as true soldiers of Christ. The members are encouraged to work for the good of the Church in their families, parishes, schools, workplaces, and social settings. Currently, about 50 Regnum Christi teams meet regularly in the Atlanta Metro area, and about 20 more meet throughout the Southeast region.

“Faith comes from listening to this message of good news – the Good News about Christ.”

Education

Currently, our educational outreach in Atlanta is the following. We direct and provide formation personnel at Pinecrest Academy in Cumming, Georgia. We currently have seven (7) consecrated and five (5) LC’s there. We also provide chaplaincy support at Holy Spirit Preparatory High School where one (1) Legionary and two (2) Consecrated women work full time.

Supporting Local Parishes

Since sacramental support is the number one priority of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, the Legionaries of Christ have dedicated priests to support this goal. At St. Brendan’s Parish we have three (3) priests on staff for a period of three (3) years . One (1) Consecrated woman is also on staff full time. RC members also serve the parish community.

Legionaries of Christ priests periodically assist with retreats, Masses and confessions on Sundays and weekdays in approximately fifteen (15) parishes across the Archdiocese. The Consecrated women support parish retreats and youth work. RC Mission Corps volunteers lead retreats for youth groups at some parishes.

Regnum Christi members are present in approximately twenty (20) parishes across the Archdiocese and are usually active in a wide array of parish ministries.

New Evangelization Training: Retreats and Missions

Legionaries, Consecrated and other members of Regnum Christi participate in and organize activities for the development of apostles of the new evangelization. These activities can be divided into two main categories: retreats and missions.

Retreats last year included over 30 silent weekend spiritual exercises, monthly half day retreats and five (5) Three to Get Married marriage preparation weekends.

Missions last year included fifteen (15) foreign missions (Ghana, Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and South Africa) and 250 people mobilized for Holy Week Evangelization missions. Other service activities throughout the year provide opportunities for corporal and spiritual works of mercy (Seven Bridges, visiting soup kitchens, visiting the elderly, prison ministry, etc.)

“The Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and constantly loves those who love Him

and obey His commands.” Deuteronomy 7:9

The formation of future priests, both diocesan and

religious, and lifelong assiduous care for their personal

sanctification in the ministry and for the constant

updating of their pastoral commitment is considered by

the Church one of the most demanding and important

tasks for the future of the evangelization of humanity.

John Paul II
