Health Information Management • New faculty strengthening HIM team; Judy

• Enhanced and expanded courses, recognized in TLT Exemplary Course Series
• Students assisted Silver City Health Center in reviewing potential EHR
• HIM students completed first IPE simulation with nursing students
• Norbert Belz presentation accepted for IPE conference; will co-present with KU School of Law faculty member “Thinking Outside the Clinical Box with IPE: Integrating Non-clinical Students in a Clinical Setting”
• Ken Davis elected President of the Tobacco Free Kansas Coalition; served on the Board of Directors for Community Health Charities of Kansas & Missouri and Cancer Action

Respiratory Care • Michael Czervinske selected as a Fellow of the American Association for
Respiratory Care (FAARC); Dave Burnett awarded his PhD
• 6 students presented 3 research studies at the Kansas Undergraduate Research Day at the Capitol
• Senior students participated in 44 IPE simulations with nursing, medical and pharmacy students; Bethene Gregg, lead faculty
• Faculty serve on multidisciplinary teams for clinical research in breast cancer patients; collaborating with Pulmonary Medicine to develop Asthma Prevention Program
Dietetics & Nutrition • New Dietetics and Integrative Medicine certificate program
approved and students enrolled • 1st PhD student graduated last fall • 12 new grants received (3 NIH R01s, 4 other clinical trials,
5 internal grant awards) • 2012 Clinical Nutrition Seminar – Integrative Nutrition and the
Gut: Gastroenterology with an Integrative Medicine Approach
Hearing & Speech • Top 10 graduate programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Speech-Language Pathology (6) and Audiology (7) • Proposal submitted to the KUMC Graduate Council for post-master’s clinical
doctorate in speech-language pathology (SLPD) • $300,000 gift from the W.C. Hartley Family for continued funding of the
Hartley Family Center for childhood audiology • Record number of applications for 2013 to graduate programs in
