Marek Stroba, O.M.I. and Deacon Orlando Rubio for their service at Saint Ferdinand Church. Fr. Marek helped our parish and Santa Rosa Church for the past year and now will be returning to La Morita (Tijuana), Mexico to continue his priestly and missionary ministry with God’s people. Deacon Orlando has been at St. Ferdinand’s as a lay man for over twenty years and for the past three years as a deacon. Last year Deacon Orlando began working at LAC/USC Medical Center as well working on a certificate program for hospital chaplaincy. He has requested Archbishop Jose Gomez to enter into fulltime ministry as a hospital chaplain and his request was granted. We wish him and his family the best as they move onto a new chapter in responding to God’s call. May the Lord bless Fr. Marek and Deacon Orlando as they serve God’s people. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God

The encounter between God and Moses in today’s first reading is awe-inspiring. God bestows three blessings upon Moses and directs him to extend those blessings to others: The Lord blesses you and keeps you. The Lord lets his face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord looks upon you kindly and gives you peace. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION“Octave” comes from the Latin word for “eight,” and since

eight is one step beyond seven, the number of days in a week, it has long been seen as a symbol of perfection, completion, and new beginnings. Early Christians called Sunday the “eighth day,” since it was the day after the Sabbath and a day of resurrected life, the Lord’s Day. By the seventh century, people regarded the eight days after Easter Sunday as one great day, an octave, one glorious feast when people were forbidden to fast or kneel. In the seventh century, Pentecost acquired an Octave, too. Christmas didn’t claim the honor of a continuous feast, but it did get an Octave Day. January 1 is the oldest Marian feast, the Octave of Christmas. It was originally a feast of the motherhood of Mary, although for centuries until 1969 it was called the Feast of the Circumcision. Our reformed calendar follows the earlier tradition of celebrating Mary as Mother of God.

USING YOUR PARISH ENVELOPES!We would like to remind all parishioners; especially those parents of children attending St. Ferdinand School to use your parish envelopes.

THE EDGEThe Edge program meets on Monday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Parish Hall. It’s a program for middle school youth, between the ages 11-13 that gives teachings about the Bible and current issues. We also keep it fun for the kids by playing games that encourage them to interact with other middle school youth. It's free of charge, and Edge is a good way to keep the kids motivated to have God in their lives and continue their religious journey with the Confirmation program after middle school.

— Lucas 2:19

¡Gracias Por Su Servico!
