The car is fitted with the infotelematic CONNECT Nav+ system designed in accordance with the specific fea-tures of the passenger compartment and with a personalised design that blends with the styling of the dashboard.

The system is installed in a user-friendly position for the driver and the graphics on the front panel make iteasy to quickly locate the controls which facilitates the use of them.

To increase safety against theft, the set is fitted with a protection system that allows the use of it only on thecar on which it was fitted originally.

The pages that follow contain the instructions for use, which we advise you to read carefully and always keepwithin reach (e.g. in the glove compartment).

ADVICE

ROAD SAFETY

You are recommended to learn howto use the different functions of theCONNECT Nav+ and in particular of the radio (e.g. storing stations) beforestarting to drive.

RECEPTION CONDITIONS

Reception conditions change con-stantly when driving. Reception can bedisturbed by the presence of moun-tains, buildings, bridges particularlywhen far away from the broadcasterreceived.

IMPORTANT When receivingtraffic information the volume mightbe higher than normal.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

The structure of the CONNECTNav+ ensures long years of operationwith no need for particular mainte-nance. In the event of a fault, contactFiat Dealership.

Some care must however be takento ensure the complete efficiency of the CONNECT Nav+:

– the monitor is sensitive to scratch-ing, liquid detergents and UV rays;

– liquids that penetrate inside maydamage the device irreparably.

Clean the front panel and display on-ly using a soft, dry antistatic cloth.Cleaning and polishing products maydamage the surface.

ADVICE, CONTROLSAND GENERAL INFORMATION

Too high a volume whendriving can put the driver’s

life at risk and that of other people.Therefore the volume should al-ways be adjusted in such a way that

it is always possible to hear thenoises of the surrounding environ-ment (e.g. horns, ambulance, policesirens, etc.).

GENERAL NOTES

– In the event of a fault the CON-NECT Nav+ should be checked andrepaired only at Fiat Dealerships.

– In case of particularly low temper-atures the display might take a certain

time to reach the optimum brightness. – In the case of prolonged parkingwith high outside temperature, the au-tomatic thermal protection of the sys-tem may come into action suspend-ing operation until the passenger com-partment temperature falls to accept-able levels.

COMPACT DISC

If a Compact Disc is used on thesound system, remember that thepresence of dirt or marks on CompactDiscs may cause skipping when play-ing and poor sound quality. The same

happens if Compact Discs are bent byaccident.

IMPORTANT Never use 8 cm au-dio or MP3 CDs, even with the spe-cific adapter, since this format damagesthe system.

To obtain optimum playing condi-tions we give the following advice:

– Only use Audio Compact Discswith the brand:

– Carefully clean all Compact Discsof any fingerprints and dust using a softcloth. Support Compact Discs on theedges and clean from the centre out-wards.

Be careful not to knock the display with pointed or hard objects and avoid

touching with the hands. Do notpress on the display when cleaning.

– Never use chemical products forcleaning (e.g. spray cans, antistatics orthinners) as they might damage thesurface of Compact Discs.

– After listening to them put Com-pact Discs back in their boxes to avoid

marking or scoring which could causeskipping when playing.

– Do not expose Compact Discs todirect sunlight, high temperatures ordamp for prolonged lengths of time toprevent them from bending.

– Do not stick labels or write on therecorded surface of Compact Discs. Always hold a Compact Disc by the

edge. Never touch the surface.

To remove fingerprints and dust, usea soft cloth starting from the centre of the Compact Disc towards the cir-cumference.

New discs may be rough around theedges. When using these discs theplayer might not work or the soundmight skip. To remove roughnessfrom the edge of a disc use a ball-pointpen, etc.

The CONNECT Nav+ system main-ly consists of the following:

– a keypad consisting of 30 push-but-tons and 2 rotary encoders);

– remote controls on steering wheel(8 push-buttons + 3 keys, where pro-

vided); – electronics boxed in a properlyhousing located inside the dashboard.

The interface is the multifunction in-formation display for all the integrat-ed components.

Multifunctioninformation display

The system uses a graphic 7” 16/9LCD 256-colour TFT display with aresolution of 480 x 234 pixels.

The display brightness can be

changed depending on the environ-ment conditions and the driver’s re-quirements, storing two settings, dayand night, which are automatically setto correspond with the turning on/off of the external lights, if this has beenset in SETUP menu.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The CONNECT Nav+ controls andprovides information for the followingsystems and functions:

– GPS (Global Positioning System)based navigation;

– Audio with RDS (Radio Data Sys-tem) radio, MP3, CD and CD Changer;

– GSM (Global System for MobileCommunication) based telephonewith WAP and SOS-call (emergencycall) functions;

– Voice recognition (VR module)with voice synthesis and voice memo.

FRONT PANEL CONTROLS

On the CONNECT Nav+ front panel there are 30 buttons and two rotating selectors (composed of an encoder and abutton). Certain controls have multiple functions which depend on the system operating conditions active. Turning on thefunction chosen is in some cases controlled by the push duration (short or long), as shown in the following table:

The main functions of the CON-NECT Nav+ are repeated on thesteering wheel, which facilitates con-trol.

Source (SRC 1-fig. 2)The “SRC” button changes the audio

source, starting from the current oneand following rolling order:FM1/FM2/FM3/FMAST/MW/LW/AMAST/CD/CDC.

Volume (+/– 2-fig. 2)

Buttons “+/– ” control volume level;if the user pushes the button for morethan 2 seconds, button function is re-peated regularly until button is re-leased.

Voice recognition (ô 3-fig. 2)

A short push on “ô” button acti-vates or stops vocal recognition.

A long push on it activates vocalrecording, which can be interruptedby a further short or long button push.

Connect mode (= 4-fig. 2)

Button “=” allows switchingthrough the various CONNECTNav+ modules: MAIN, AUDIO,TRIP, TEL, NAV, MAP, starting fromthe module which is currently active.

Scan (¯¯ ˙˙ 5-fig. 2)

Buttons “¯¯ and ˙˙” enable thefollowing:

– In radio mode: jump to the fol-lowing or previous tunable radio sta-tion.

– In CD/MP3/CDC mode: jump tothe previous or next track.

Telephone (ß 6-fig. 2)

Button “ß” allows telephone man-agement.

Turning on of the function chosen isin certain cases controlled by push du-

ration (short or long), as shown in thefollowing table.

With reconfigurable multifunctiondisplay, long push on ß 6-fig. 2 willdisplay a menu (where provided) onthe instrument panel that enables tochoose directory (by pushing ˙˙) orlast numbers called (by pushing ¯¯).

Push on ¯¯ and ˙˙ to scroll the list.Push on ß 8-fig. 1 or ß 6-fig. 2 tostart the call.

At the same time, all CONNECTNav+ telephone functions and buttonsare disabled fig. 3.

Screen icon keys

Screen icon keys are strictly con-nected to the external front panel but-tons. Icon keys are divided into:

– Upper keys: these keys are usual-ly shown in column on the right side

of the screen. They can be selected byrotating the encoder 14-fig. 1 andconfirmed by pushing “ENTER” 15-fig. 1.

– Bottom keys: these are located inthe lowest video section and areswitched on/off by the correspondingbuttons on the keypad 17-fig. 1.These buttons are “multifunction”

since they change their function ac-cording to the active menu.

Selection buttons(R E 7 and 9-fig. 2)

These buttons perform the samefunctions of the encoder 14-fig. 1:scroll the screen and allow item se-lection.

GENERALINFORMATION

IMPORTANT NOTES FORUSE AND ROAD SAFETY

The CONNECT Nav+ with Ra-dio/Telephone/Navigator/On-boardcomputer makes it possible to easilycontrol the main functions of the car.

To avoid creating dangerous situa-tions for yourself and others in use of the system, please pay attention to thefollowing points:

– the CONNECT Nav+ must beused keeping full control of the car;in the case of doubt in the use of thefunctions, it is necessary to stop be-fore performing the various opera-tions;

– use of the cell phone is prohibitednear explosive substances.

The navigation system allows you toreach your destination, indicating eachroute change stored on the navigation

CD-ROM. In fact, in calculating theroute, the system takes into accountof all the information stored concern-ing the roads, advising the best route.However it cannot take account of thetraffic, sudden interruptions or anyother inconvenience.

In carrying out any manoeuvre it isalways necessary to follow the rules of the road, regardless of the advice giv-en by the navigation system. If youleave the suggested route, the naviga-tion system will calculate a new oneand suggest it to you.

The navigation systemhelps the driver while dri-

ving by suggesting, vocally and graphically, the best route to be fol-lowed to reach the preset destina-tion. The suggestions given by thenavigation system do not exemptthe driver from full responsibility due to driving behaviour and compliance with road and other trafficregulations. The responsibility for road safety always and anyway lieswith the car’s driver.

SYSTEM POWER ON

The CONNECT Nav+ can beswitched on according to two differ-ent methods:

automatic switching on with ig-nition key to MAR;

manual switching on:

– by “ON” button 19-fig. 1;

– direct access to SOS menu bypressing button “SOS” 1-fig. 1.

Automatic switching on

Turning the ignition key to MAR, willturn the CONNECT Nav+ system onautomatically, thus activating or mak-ing available all the functions describedin this manual.

Manual switching onWith ignition key to STOP, press

button “ON” 19-fig. 1 to switch onthe CONNECT Nav+ system thusmaking available the following mod-ules:

– MAIN

– AUDIO

– NAV

– MAP

– TEL

– SOS

– Targasys•.

IMPORTANT In this mode, theSETUP and TRIP modules can be ac-tivated; however, it will not be possi-ble to validate any operation con-cerning parameter change, languagechange, units change and any othertype of adjustment provided by the

CONNECT Nav+ system. These lim-itations are normal when switching thesystem on manually by the “ON” but-ton 19-fig. 1, since with engine off (key at STOP), the car data trans-mission devices are not operating.

Turning the ignition key to MAR willmake all system functions active.

SYSTEM POWER OFF

The CONNECT Nav+ system canbe switched off according to two dif-ferent modes:

– deactivation independent of ig-nition key

– deactivation dependent on ig-nition key

To choose the power-off mode, seethe Power OFF submenu in the SET-UP menu.

Deactivation independentof ignition key

With this mode active, CONNECTNav+ can be turned off by pressingthe “ON” button 19-fig. 1.

The display will show the message

“DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE INPROGRESS. PLEASE WAIT”.

IMPORTANT With ignition key atSTOP, deactivation is delayed and willtake place after 20 minutes if the sys-tem has a destination set or a phonecall is in progress.

Deactivation dependenton ignition key

With this mode active, CONNECTNav+ can be switched off by turningthe ignition key to STOP or by press-ing the “ON” button19-fig. 1.

IMPORTANT Deactivation withignition key to STOP is delayed andwill take place after 20 minutes if thesystem has a destination set or aphone call is in progress.

MAIN MODE

The MAIN mode is activated bypushing the “MAIN” button 25-fig. 1on the front panel. Information re-garding the four main modules of thesystem is displayed fig. 4 - 5:

– AUDIO – TELEPHONE

– NAVIGATOR

– TRIP.

The top status bar shows currenttime, GPS and GSM field strength, date(format dd, mm, yyyy), external tem-perature and current active mode (i.e.MAIN).

IMPORTANT With ignition key atSTOP, information concerning time,date , external temperature and Tripdata is not available since in this con-dition the car data transmission de-vices are not operating.

The different panels on the left side

of the screen are dedicated to tele-phone, audio and trip modes.

The panel dedicated to the phone in-cludes:

– GSM provider (if no provider ispresent, then string “No Network” isshown. If phone is switched off, thestring will be “TEL OFF” and emer-gency calls will not be possible);

– Unread SMS message envelope-shaped icon;

– Active call forward arrow-shapedicon.

The panel dedicated to the currentaudio source includes:

– RDS string, tuned band and fre-

quency, or CD playback track.

The panel dedicated to Trip providesthe following info:

– average speed and km/miles toempty or (turning the encoder 14-fig. 1) trip time and average fuel con-sumption.

The following keys are available whenin MAIN mode:

– FM, AM, CD, CDC: allow the userto directly select a radio band (pushingon FM will select FM1/2/3/AST1/2/…; pushing on AM will selectMW/LW/AMAST/MW/…) or CD/CDChanger audio source.

Audio source can be changed also bypushing on source button “SRC” 3-fig. 1, through the following loop:FM1, FM2, FM3, FMAST, MW, LW,AMAST, CD, CDC.

– 1-6 icon keys: have functions re-lated to the currently active source.

– Ù audio mute: mutes all the audiosources.

– AUX: presetting for connection toan external video source (not availableyet).

If navigator, audio, telephone andmute are off, the display will show thescreen in fig. 6.

PROTECTION AGAINSTTHEFT

Power-on authenticationprocedure

CONNECT Nav+ is protected

against theft and unauthorised instal-lation by means of an “authenticationprocedure”.

This kind of verification involvesBody Computer Node (by means of messages exchanged on car network)and is performed at every power-on.

The procedure does not take placeif CONNECT Nav+ is switched on by

means of “ON” button 19-fig. 1 or“SOS” button 1-fig. 1 and ignition keyat STOP. In this case, CONNECTNav+ is enabled to work normally,without authentication procedure.

With ignition key at MAR, if au-thentication fails, system starts work-ing as usual, but the user is asked toenter the 4-digit “Master Code” to al-low access to the standard functions.

Master code is unique for eachCONNECT Nav+, and is stored in its

memory and can not be reset.

A specific panel allows code inser-tion, fig. 7. Behaviour of this box issimilar to PIN insertion request, butthe dialog box itself is generated on awholly blackened screen.

Numeric keys and “ON” button areenabled only, 19-fig. 1.

After the code is entered, a secondpanel notices the user that the au-thentication procedure is in progress,fig. 8.

In case the correct code is provided,the system is fully enabled. On thecontrary, if a wrong code is entered,screen is cleared and previous box isshown again with the following string:

“Incorrect code entered. Enter mas-ter code or turn off system with ON

pushbutton” 19-fig. 1.

– FM activates, on successive push-es FM1, FM2, FM3, FMAST, FM1… ra-

dio bands in a loop.

– AM activates, on successive push-es MW, LW, AMAST, MW… radiobands in a loop

– 1-6 buttons (short push), select a

Tuning

This function seeks stations in thechosen band.

Proceed as follows:

– select the frequency band (FM1,FM2, FM3, MW, LW) pressing the

“SRC” key repeatedly 3-fig. 1;

– press key “ ¯” 22-fig. 1 or “˙˙”18-fig. 1 to start the automatic searchfor tuning the next or previous stationthat can be received.

If the “TA” function is on (traffic in-formation), the tuner only seeks sta-tions that broadcast traffic bulletins.

If the “PTY” function is on, the tuneronly seeks PTY stations.

Manual station storage

The station being heard can bestored in the range chosen with key-pad buttons 17-fig. 1 numbered from“1” to “6” at the bottom of the mainscreen.

Keep one of these keys pressed un-til the display shows the number of thekey with which the station has beenstored; a confirmation beep will indi-cate that the station has been stored.

“TA-Traff. Ann.” FUNCTION(TRAFFIC INFORMATION)

Certain stations in the FM band(FM1, FM2, FM3 and FMAST) are al-so enabled to broadcast informationabout the conditions of the traffic. Inthis case the displays shows the ab-

breviation “TP”.

To turn on/off the TA function (Traf-fic Announcement) for traffic bulletins,turn the encoder 14-fig. 1 to selectthe “TA-Traff. Ann.” function, thenpress “ENTER” 15-fig. 1.

When the TA function is on, the dis-play shows “TA” and symbol “✓” is

shown near the corresponding icon.

The listening conditions and infor-mation shown on the display may bethe following:

– TA and TP: you are tuned to a sta-tion that broadcasts traffic informationand the traffic information function ison

– TP: you are tuned to a station thatbroadcasts traffic information but thetraffic information function is off

– TA: the traffic information functionis on but you are tuned to a stationthat does not broadcast traffic infor-mation

– TA and TP not shown on the dis-

play: you are tuned to a station thatdoes not broadcast traffic informationand the traffic information function isoff.

With the TA function on it is possi-ble:

1) to receive traffic information al-so if the CD/CDC/MP3 player is

working;2) to receive traffic information at a

preset minimum level also with the ra-dio volume down completely or instand-by.

Listening to stored stations

Proceed as follows:

– choose the required frequencyband (FM1, FM2, FM3, FMAST, MW,LW or AMAST) pressing repeatedlythe “SRC” key 3-fig. 1;

– press briefly one of the stationstorage keys on the keypad 17-fig. 1numbered from “1” to “6” at the bot-tom of the main screen.

In the FM1, FM2, FM3 and FMASTbands, if reception is poor and the“AF-Alt. Freq.” alternative frequencyseek function is on, a station with thestrongest signal that is broadcasting

the same programme is automaticallysought.

The operations to be carried out foreach of the above two conditions arelisted below.

1) If you wish to receive traffic in-formation while listening to a CD, be-fore inserting the CD, tune to a sta-tion enabled to broadcast traffic in-

formation (TP) and turn the TA func-tion on. If, while playing the CD, thisstation broadcasts traffic information,CD playing will be temporarilystopped and resumed automatically atthe end of the message.

If the CD player is already workingand at the same time you wish to re-ceive traffic information, turning on

the TA function, the radio tunes to thelast station heard in the FM band andthe traffic announcements are trans-mitted.

2) To receive traffic informationthough not listening to the radio:

– turn on the TA function, so thatthe display shows the abbreviation“TA”;

– tune to a station enabled to broad-

cast traffic information so that “TP”is shown on the display;

– set the system to stand-by press-ing the “AUDIO” key 24-fig. 1.

This way, if that station broadcaststraffic information, this will be heardat a minimum predefined volume.

A telephone call has higher priority

than traffic message.

IMPORTANT In certain countries,radio stations exist which though theTP function is active (the display shows“TP”), do not broadcast traffic infor-mation.

If the radio is working in the AMband, choosing the FM band tunes to

the last station heard. If the chosenstation does not broadcast traffic in-formation (“TP” not shown on the dis-play), an automatic search is startedfor an enabled station.

If the volume is changed during a traf-fic bulletin the value is not shown onthe display and the new value is keptonly for the bulletin in progress.

– With AF OFF the radio will nottune the strongest station automati-cally and it will have to be found man-ually using the tuner buttons.

RDS FUNCTION

The “RDS” function enables/disablesRDS string (showing the tuned stationname) display.

To turn the “RDS” function on/off,select the “RDS” function turning the

encoder 14-fig. 1 and then press“ENTER” 15-fig. 1.

When the “RDS” function is on, thedisplay shows the string with tunedstation name and the symbol “✓” isshown near the corresponding icon.

AF-Alt. Freq. FUNCTION(SEEKING ALTERNATIVEFREQUENCIES)

Within the RDS system the radio canwork in two different modes:

– AF ON: alternative frequency

search on; – AF OFF: alternative frequencysearch off.

When the signal of the RDS stationtuned weakens, the following two cas-es may occur:

– With AF ON the RDS system ac-tivates automatic tuning of the opti-

mum frequency of the station chosen,with the stations enabled, thereforethe radio is automatically tuned to thestation with the strongest signal thatis broadcasting the same programme.During the journey it will thus be pos-sible to continue listening to the sta-tion chosen without having to changethe frequency when changing area. Of course, the station being listened tomust be receivable in the area the caris crossing.

To access the list of PTYprogrammes, choose the “PTY-Prog.Type” icon with the encoder 14-fig. 1 and then press “ENTER” to con-firm 15-fig. 1; the display will showthe screen with the list of PTY pro-grammes and the subject of the last

Stations will be stored automaticallyon the preset keys from “1” to “6” of the keypad 17-fig. 1. After storage,the radio tunes automatically to thefirst station of the FMAST band, cor-

responding to the frequency stored onthe preset key “1” of the keypad 17-fig. 1.

Every station is stored only once, ex-cept in the case of regional pro-grammes, which in certain cases mightbe stored twice.

The behaviour of the set during Au-

tostore is as follows: – at the beginning of the Autostorefunction all the other functions are dis-abled

– any change in volume is not shownon the display

pressing one of the preset keysfrom “1” to “6” the automatic storageprocess is interrupted and the stationstored with that key is tuned

– selecting and activating a radiofunction (e.g. PTY) the automatic stor-age process is interrupted, the last sta-

Autostore FUNCTION(AUTOMATIC STATIONSTORAGE)

After selecting the AMAST orFMAST band, to turn on the Auto-store function (automatic station stor-age), select the “AUTOSTORE” icon

with the encoder 14-fig. 1 and thenpress “ENTER” 15-fig. 1 to confirm.

When this function is on, the radioautomatically stores the stations withthe strongest signal:

– 6 FM stations in the FMAST bandor

– 6 AM stations in the AMAST band.

Band Scan FUNCTION

The “Band scan” function activatesstation scanning in the chosen fre-quency band. Each station frequencywill be displayed for about 10 seconds.

To turn on the “Band scan” function,

select the “Band scan” icon with theencoder 14-fig. 1, then press “EN-TER” 15-fig. 1 to confirm.

During scanning, the display willshow “Band Scan”.

To stop the band scan function, press“ENTER” 15-fig. 1 again.

Preset Scan FUNCTION

The “Preset scan” function activatesstored station scanning in the chosenfrequency band. Each stored stationwill be played for about 10 seconds.

To turn on the “Preset scan” func-

tion, select the “Preset scan” icon withthe encoder 14-fig. 1, then press“ENTER” 15-fig. 1 to confirm.

During stations scan, the scannedone is highlighted in the stored sta-tions window and corresponding low-bar button too. During operations thestring “Preset Scan” is displayed in themain window.

To stop the preset scan function,press “ENTER” 15-fig. 1 again.

LOC/DX function(tuner sensitivity adjustment)

With this function it is possible tochange the sensitivity of automatic ra-dio station searching. When low sen-sitivity “LOC” is set, only stations withexcellent reception are sought; whenhigh sensitivity “DX” is set, all the sta-tions are sought. If you are in an area

with a large number of broadcastersand you want the ones with thestrongest signal, choose low sensitivi-ty “LOC”.

To choose between low or hightuner sensitivity, repeatedly press“ENTER” 15-fig. 1 after selecting the“LOC/DX” function with the encoder14-fig. 1. The abbreviation of the sen-

sitivity chosen will be shown on thedisplay:

– LOC = low sensitivity;

– DX = high sensitivity.

To pass from “Mono” to “Stereo” orvice versa, select “Mono/Stereo” byturning the encoder 14-fig. 1, andthen press “ENTER” 15-fig. 1 to con-firm. This function is only available onFM band.

When stereo reception is on the dis-play shows “STEREO”, when it is off the display shows “MONO”.

When the signal of the station tunedis weak, to improve the sound quality,it is advisable to switch to “MONO”.

reach the chosen destination by visu-al and voice instructions. Use of thenavigation system is quick, convenient,safe and above all very flexible becauseit allows you to call up already pro-grammed destinations or points of ref-erence such as hotels, monuments,public structures, fuel stations or Fi-at Dealerships.

The car position is determinedthrough the GPS system (Global Posi-tioning System) installed on the car.The GPS system is fitted with an an-tenna and a reception module inte-grated in the telematic system. Thissystem configuration dynamicallyprocesses the satellite signals, thosefrom the right and left odometer, thereversing signal and the information of

The CONNECT Nav+ system isable to detect both internal faults andfaults due to overheating.

INTERNAL FAULTS

If the system detects an internal faulton a certain module (audio, telephone,

etc…), the system will “freeze” thelast available screen and it will start di-agnostics

OVERTEMPERATUREFAULTS

If the temperature of a CONNECTNav+ hardware module (audio, tele-phone, CD player, etc..) exceeds themax. limit, the involved module willdetect overtemperature and the dis-

play will show a dedicated warningmessage.

The involved module will automati-cally be limited or disabled. In extremecases the system is turned off auto-matically until regular operating tem-perature is restored. The display willshow the screen in fig. 177.
