LADIES SQUAD AND TEAM SELECTION

THIS DOCUMENT CONFIRMS THE NEW PROCEDURE (OCT 2018) FOR TEAM CAPTAINS AND TEAM PLAYERS. The tennis season is split into two a year; a winter and a summer season. Each one runs different leagues and competitions which require a different number of teams. The Captains are likely to be different for both seasons.

SQUAD SELECTION• Two months before the start of each season the Team Captains will sit down and

compile all squad lists. Once they have been agreed they will not be changed until that season is over and a new set of squads is agreed. It may be the case that some players will be promoted to a higher team or relegated to a lower team. This process will take place following discussions with the Team Captains and the Coaching Team. The Head Coach will have the final say. For new players or players who are returning from injury they will be required to have an assessment with the Head Coach to ascertain which team would be most appropriate for them. This assessment is free of charge.

• If there is an issue with the above, the Head Coach’s decision is final but will consult with the Coaching Team to get a balanced view.

• In order for each lady to remain in the squad it is expected that each lady attends at least 2 team practices per term and makes themselves available to at least 2 matches.

TEAM SELECTION FOR MATCHES• The teams may have different philosophies on the reasons for having the teams. It

is assumed that the stronger the team the more the emphasis is on trying to field the strongest team possible for each match to win.

• The weaker and therefore the more social the team is then the emphasis becomes more about giving everyone a game.

• At the beginning of the season a spreadsheet will be circulated to the team squad and players indicate their availability for each match. The Captain then selects the team for each match based on this.

• To provide transparency the Captains will distribute team selection to all players and those not playing but who are available will be reserves.

• Strength of players is always subjective and will be influenced by partners as well.

• If short of players for a match the Captains will try to follow the following protocol: 1.Select a reserve. 2.If these are exhausted then consult the Captain of the team below. 3.If it is an emergency on the day then point 2 may not be possible and a player who is not a regular squad member may be selected as a way of getting a full team. 4.This is at the Captain’s discretion and the Captain has the right to choose the strongest/ best team. 5.The Captain may ask the Head Coach/ Coaching Team their opinion on team pairings. They will act professionally and make independent decisions.

CAPTAIN ON MATCH DAY• If a Captain can’t play a match then they will ask another player to act as Captain

for that match.

LEAGUE RULES• Each league has a similar but individual set of rules. There will be clear

regulations that govern how many times a squad player can play up or down.

PLAYERS PLAYING FOR MULTIPLE CLUBS• Traditionally previous Captains have had strong views regarding this and have

requested that these players do not play against Stoke Park. We are happy for this to changed if there is a consensus of the team.

Page 13: Stoke Park, Park Road, Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire SL2 ...€¦ · TENNIS RACQUET RE-STRINGING AND RE-GRIP SERVICES Did you know that you should change your strings as many times

LADIES SQUAD AND TEAM SELECTION

CAPTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES• Confirm match date and time with the opposition Captain.

• Liaise with Amy Turner, Tennis Secretary, for home matches to confirm courts have been booked and match teas have been ordered.

• Compile a match report for social media and IG.

• Take a team photograph for the above.

• Post the match result on relevant Bucks LTA website.

CAPTAIN SELECTION• Captains are selected via the Tennis Committee following a nomination process.

• If you would like to be considered as a Team Captain, there needs to be a vacancy for one of the teams. Please email Marc Codling, Head Coach, at [email protected] to register your interest.

• The new Captains will then be discussed and approved at the next Tennis Committee meeting. TEAM KIT

• We have secured a branded team kit deal with Babolat for 2019. It is expected that all team players purchase (at a reduced price) and wear their team kit when playing in matches for Stoke Park.
