owntown St. Catharines has always beenthe best place to go if you are looking for aunique gift; that special something you
can’t find anywhere else. Well, St. Paul Street’s The British Boutique is no exception to that rule. Specializing in imported items from the British Isles, you can find everything from British food and sweetsto Guinness merchandise to Union Jack clothing.
Walking into the store, you are greeted by thefriendliest of greeters, Luke, a handsome Boxer belonging to store owner Vicki Jones. He is alwaysmore than happy to accompany you while yousearch out some cool new finds, and browsethrough the racks of kilts, Celtic jewellery,Coronation Street items, tartan blankets, scarves and capes, and England, Ireland and Scotland themed clothingand gifts. There is a little bit of everything at this store.
Vicki opened The British Boutiquein 2004, when it was then known asthe Gift Boutique. It started out as a general gift shop, but as the clientele grew, so did the demand formore British products. The Gift Boutique then morphed into The British Boutique and is now theplace to go to find items that are imported directlyfrom the United Kingdom.
Vicki was born in Canada, but has close ties to Britain,as her husband, Mark, came to Canada from England in1975, along with his parents and brother. The BritishBoutique is now a family affair, with Vicki’s mother-in-law Susan, becoming a business partner in 2010.
Anyone who has ever travelled in Britain or has relatives from that area of the world, will likely recognize many of the goodies that are located at theback half of the store. If you haven’t made it over to Britain quite yet, the store can serve as a UK connection, where you can get a small taste of it rightin Downtown St. Catharines.
With the Christmas season now upon us, The British Boutique is stocked up with all kinds of Christmas
goodies. Christmas Selection Boxes are now available, as well as Marks & Spencer Christmas Cakes, and Christmas Puddings. The British Boutique also offerscustom made gift baskets, which can be made in anysize and for any price range. Another notable new winter item is the Scottish capes, imported directlyfrom Scotland, and made from 100% lamb’s wool.
Not only is this store original, but it serves as a onestop shop, with food, sweets, and a wide variety of giftsand clothing available year round; all items you can’tget anywhere else (well, except Britain of course!) TheBritish Boutique is truly a gem in the ever growingdowntown landscape, and is a great place to go whenyou are looking for that perfectly unique Christmas gift.
