    Cross Promotion

    - Bne of the biggest aims in the E year plan would be to not only introduce a paidSource membership to start getting the platform to pay for itself and e9pand(profit of it7sown content, but to also cross promote with the Uni ersity mar eting team and other

outside agencies# )he ne9t step would be to de elop from purely a lone studentplatform, to one that interacts with other platforms and companies in a business-fashion 5n a similar fashion to collaborating with the Students Union for *arsityco erage@#

    - )he Student Media could forge the way to building a stronger relationship betweenthe Students Union and the Uni ersity, by wor ing alongside their staff and offeringser ices and assistance to strengthen the ties and communication channels betweenboth platforms#

    - Source has the potential to cross-promote with the Uni ersity on their current onlinecampaigns# )he Uni ersity has a massi e focus currently on 5nternationali2ation, andthis could be built on by using the Student Media to create :ground le el7 content thathelps support this, such as articles( ideos(radio pac ages focused around internationalsocieties, trips abroad or mar eting CUSU to a larger mar et# What does it offer tointernational students? 3n a similar vein4 this could be utili2ed on any number of theirmar eting campaigns, such as transposing the CU $raduate Success Storiescampaign to a CUSU $raduate Success Stories campaign# )his could be done bywor ing together between teams, leading into cross promotion of uni ersity campaigns, but geared towards a students union output planning and getting assistance andtraining from the Uni ersity Mar eting team, but using Source Media resources tocreate@#

/ AM =/& CU $raduate Success Stories, but focusing on CUSU graduates such asrecent sabb officers, well nown students from sports(society presidents, course repsand CUSU Awards winners that ha e recently left& with a direct focus on what they arecurrently doing after uni ersity and how CUSU played a part in that and their personalde elopment and career progression# )his act of cross promotion and brand synergycould also lead into wor ing together on further projects, such as getting Source )*in ol ed in assisting with helping li e stream the $raduation ceremonies or at leasthelping out and getting a taste of li e streaming in a professional en ironment@, andcould all be used to help build a professional media profile for the CUSU body#

    - Cross romotion also ta es into account wor ing with other Student Media outletsaround the UI, as listed pre iously in the document, on e ents such as +USconference, =ondon Marches ; e ents pro iding on-the-ground news reporting fromStudent Marches@, joint training days and wor shops#

    - )here was pre iously an idea when 5 was in ol ed in Student Media to create a:Student 'ecruitment 6*67 that would be sent out as part of e ery 0reshers Welcomeac that CUSU(CU supplied# )his 6*6 ne er passed planning stages, howe erappro al was gi en by the e9-*ice Chancellor Madeline, and funding was put aside forit# )he primary reason it failed was a lac of assistance from staff and membership

)he 6*6 would be filmed throughout the year, with rele ant information and shortideos showing the best of campus and that Co entry Uni ersity and the StudentsUnion has to offer# )his could tie into cross promotion by ha ing meetings with both themar eting team and the current *ice Chancellor to plan the 6*6 content, where theSource Committee could wor alongside them with students in order to create content

that ser es the best interests of CU and CUSU, but also direct student in ol ementmeans there is a ey oice in planning content that would directly appeal to them#)here is also the potential of wor ing alongside Art ; 6esign to engage some final year Media roduction students to help assist on the project, as part of their wor , to getaccess to e

    Content Calendar

5 )his would in ol e creating a calendar of e ents for the upcoming educational yearo er the summer before 0reshers, collating together a planned schedule of allupcoming e ents and mar eting campaigns# )his would be done by collaborating with

the Uni ersity and incorporating their aims into the Student Media output so they areconstantly wor ing together#

)his would also in ol e engaging the Source Committee to loo bac at the pre iousyear of content, the e ents hosted, the co erage pro ided and discussing what couldpotentially be included this upcoming year and the opportunities that Students couldunderta e# )his may include directly deciding to co er e ery single CUSU campaign inthe year, and ensuring that .lac >istory Month or 6isabilities Month and othercampaigns across departments@ get some form of publicity3 through website articles, through social media campaigns, through youtube ideos or through radio pac ages#

    - )his would also ensure that e ery member new what was going on throughout theyear and what was planned, and to assist platform managers and the SourceCommittee in deciding how to create digital content to promote and ad ertise allplanned e ent co erage# )his would also tie in with the E Year Media lan, by ensuringall of the content comes in line with the yearly goals, and incorporating and plannedobjecti es or CUSU-related co erage(departmental or managerial recommendedcontent# )he content calendar would then, in effect, grow alongside the E Year lan bye9panding alongside the Student Media platform, being refreshed and added to eachyear, and becoming a central point of Source Media where direct planning and outliningfor content is de ised from#

    6 7ear Media Plan

    - )his would in ol e creating a Media .usiness lan, which goes hand in hand with thecontent calendar, clearly outlining the yearly goals for and the progression of CUSUMedia and CUSU Student Media# )his would directly in ol e Students Unionmanagement, sabbatical officers and the Source Committee to plan and create, withconstant scope for rede elopment and refining as the year progresses and contentcreation(membership engagement ebbs and flows# )he biggest flaw may be trying toensure that the platform doesn7t become too :staff-led7, as the Student Media is thereas a Student-=ed platform, howe er hopefully the introduction of the media plan and

content calendar will ensure that there is o erall a more rigid yearly structure that can7tbe changed on a whim by the incoming sabbatical officer e ery year3 and that there ismore defined support, coordination and organi2ation in place to directly assist thesmooth running of the Student Media from a staff le el#

    - )he plan, as pre iously stated abo e, would incorporate the )raining 6e elopmentand Modular program for all members, to ensure that training across all platforms isconstantly de eloped each year on membership feedbac and is redefined andprogressed to eep constantly engaging with the students no matter their year ore9perience#

    - 5t would also incorporate the set platform I 57s and adjust to specifically fit these, such as wor ing a recruitment dri e into the year7s e ents, ensuring that the I 5 toe9pand membership and retain them@ is met before the end of the educational year#)his would help ensure that all planning is retained as part of one structure, withoffshoots to their own areas#

    - Bther ideas could be added into the planning, depending upon membershipe9pansion, such as the scope for wee ly(monthly li e e ents as mentioned abo e@and promotion or stalls around the Students Union and campus to ad ertise theStudent Media, current e ents and the Students Union itself# )his could be achie edthrough the utili2ation of mar eting materials pre iously mentioned to help furtherappealability3 such as new banners, flyers, li e music and direct student interactionfilming inter iews whilst :But and About7, to get the Student *oice and opinions on thestreet#@

    - )he E year plan would also directly in ol e the e9pansion of the CUSU StudentMedia, as a platform, into Co entry Uni ersity College and other aspects of the localcommunity# )he addition of members, e

    - )his could also be brought in line with the de elopment goals of the Students Unionand the Uni ersity3 to strengthen company and brand relationships ensuring thate eryone is wor ing together# 5t could also help further cross promotion betweenplatforms and that the yearly I 5 directly con enes with the Uni ersity mar etingcampaigns or promotional plans, to help further the CUSU and CU brand relationship,

and that all of this is directly planned into the Content Calendar# )his would then bere iewed at the end of the year and wor ed into or out of the E year plan to ensure itssuccession or remo al depending on how it wor ed#

    Plat#orm &'pansion

5 )here would be a direct focus on growth across all Student Media platforms in thefuture, not only ensuring there are enough and more members, but that all areengaging and are trained, professionally accredited, and want to be a part of theStudent Media# )his could be incorporated directly into the E Year lan, by settingI 57s of a certain amount of members to grow by per year, or a direct number to retain, then wor ing it into the content calendar to ensure sufficient e ents and promotionalopportunities to e9pand the platform and all % media outlets ha e enough contributingpaid members# With enough focus on e9pansion, there could be a projected H""Lsigned up(paid members by 0reshers Wee in H"!J# )his really isn7t a hard goal whenloo ing at other Student Media platforms, with Warwic 7s !""L writers alone, or -Media7s !"""L members# 5t ta es time and patience, but the platform has theopportunity to grow and flourish to lots of members, ele ating Source Media and thebrand of CUSU#

    - As mentioned pre iously, there is the scope for setting up a completely new(separateSource +ews and Source Media@ website, alongside e9panding the number of writers#)here will be a direct focus on publishing daily news content and yearlong social mediacampaigns to get students and the public engaging and interacting with the StudentMedia# Students are more li ely to remain as writers if their article is put online within Gdays, as opposed to waiting H months for it to be printed, they would then return andwrite more as they are satisfied# )here is the scope for hundreds of articles andcontent, as listed pre iously, and e9panding the news focus out of the campus to also

feature the local community, the region, and national news is a sure-fire way of drawingin a wider reading audience and maintaining a daily turno er of news, de elopingSource +ews into a fully fledged broadcasting and publicity platform#

    - )here is the scope to immediately e9pand the Social Media output of the StudentMedia, and the amount of direct audience interaction such as replying, commentingand posting instead of just casual posts that don7t engage on a personal le el but arepurely there for the mass reader@# )here is the scope to setup a Social Media team forSource, as either part of Source +ews(Bnline or a separate entity# )hey would ha eaccess to hootsuite and other channels, with the potential to post online e ery day, share articles, tweet at students and post pictures from around the campus, with the

aim to setup a full student social media team that can e entually ri al the Uni ersityone# )his could be done through the current social media channels a ailable, but also

by setting up other ones not currently in CUSU use such as an 5nstagram accountwhich can be pre-scheduled online now similar to >ootsuite@, interest and li ecampaigns which ties in with the content calendar and yearly I 57s# )his team couldalso be instrumental in helping out at e ents such as 0reshers or *arsity, bypurchasing a :Student Media 5pad7 with G$(Wi-0i that they can use to create content,

upload online straight away and wor from, gi ing the student social media team thepotential of wal ing around the 0reshers 0air and directly uploading photos online ortweeting li e from an e ent#

    CUSU Media Development

Bne large idea 5 would li e to broach is the idea for, and potential scope of,de elopment of a professional :media7 brand and content streams for the CUSUorgani2ation itself# )he Student Media could fill this aspect, in a way, howe er thiscouldn7t be enacted properly with the Student Media until the abo e steps areunderta en to increase their e9pansion and de elopment#

)his would be a large-scale project to create a Media brand identity for the CUSUplatform, utili2ing Student Media resources to create content that promotes the brandof CUSU globally# 5t would in ol e training staff properly and professional in mediapractices, so they are tweeting efficiently and correctly from all the different contentchannels, and teaching them about content de elopment and ownership, so thatdepartments such as Sports ; Societies could be writing their own news articles andgi e them to Source for publication upon the website, or wor ing alongside the StudentMedia team in creating digital content to promote their own campaigns#

)he main aim would be the creation of a professional CUSU youtube page, alongsideother content platforms such as a 0lic r archi e of pre ious e ents@ to professionalpromote the image and brand of the Students Union# )he Youtube channel would standseparate from the Student Media one in that the ideos would be entirely commerciallyfocused, professionally created and with the aim of impro ing and promoting the imageof the Students Union# 5t could in ol e the Student Media shooting the ideos, but witha commercial perspecti e to ad ertise all the departments of the SU, to promote theirindi idual ser ices, to put up online ideo press releases or announcements on an SUchannel# / ery finished product should ha e the finished polish of content that :could7be shown on )*# 5t would be de eloped in a similar commercial(business angle to theUni ersity youtube channel, which is focused at promoting itself as an entity, as

    Future 3deas

As stated throughout this document, there is the scope for a plethora of future ideasthat both CUSU and the Student Media can enact upon, de elop and use to engagestudents around campus# 5 would li e to use this last point to e9pand and add to some

of those ideas mentioned briefly in the document#

    - +ational Student Media .ody Affiliation

    - >6 / ent li e streaming(outside broadcasting wee ly and monthly around campus#)his was mentioned briefly with assisting at graduation, but also has the scope for li estreaming Student Council meetings and other conferences around the Uni ersity, radio li e B.7s as mentioned abo e and operating as a professional )* channel withother products such as monthly news reports#
