Dear Exchange Student:

The Spring Semester begins shortly, and we are eagerly awaiting your arrival in India. We are

delighted that you have chosen to study at Chitkara University, and we are working to make your

arrival in India and your orientation to the university as comfortable as possible. Please read this

correspondence carefully, since it contains important information regarding your arrival.

ABOUT CHANDIGARH

Welcome to Chandigarh

Chandigarh is the capital of two Indian states: Punjab & Haryana. It is administered as a "Union

Territory" by the Chandigarh Administration.

Chandigarh, the dream city of India's first Prime Minister, Sh. JawaharLal Nehru, was planned by the

famous French architect Le Corbusier. Picturesquely located at the foothills of Shivaliks, it is known as

one of the best experiments in urban planning and modern architecture in the twentieth century in India.

The city has a pre-historic past. The gently sloping plains on which modern Chandigarh exists, was in the

ancient past, a wide lake ringed by a marsh. The fossil remains found at the site indicate a large variety of

aquatic and amphibian life, which was supported by that environment. About 8000 years ago the area

was also known to be a home to the Harappans.

Chandigarh is the first planned city in the country and still maintains its status as one of the best managed

cities in the country. The excellent social infrastructure, large green spaces, and its compact size, make

Chandigarh an ideal work destination. The quality of life in the City Beautiful is comparable to the best

cities across the world.

ABOUT CHITKARA UNIVERSITY Chitkara University is one of the premier private universities of north India. Based out of The City

Beautiful - Chandigarh (Around 45 minutes flight from Delhi), Chitkara University is currently offering 25

ARRIVAL INFORMATION:

FLYING TO INDIA

Classes begin on Monday, July 20, 2020. You should fly into New Delhi, and catch a connecting

flight to the Chandigarh airport (IXC). Or you could arrange ground transportation from New

Delhi to Chandigarh. For your Convenience:

We would arrange free pick up from Chandigarh Airport or Chandigarh Train Station.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION TO CHANDIGARH

Ground transportation options include renting a car (Uber/Ola Outstation cabs or Private hire),

traveling by bus service or Shatabdi (Train).

ARRIVAL IN CHANDIGARH Travelling from Delhi to Chandigarh You will most probably be accompanied to your residence in Chandigarh by one of the executives from the Office of International Affairs. Following are the means of transport for reaching Chandigarh from Delhi.

- By Plane: Daily flights (40 minutes) are available in the morning, afternoon and evening from the domestic airport in New Delhi to Chandigarh Airport.Ticket Price: ~INR 4000 -7000

- By Train: Various trains available including Shatabdi Express

(recommended) from New Delhi Railway Station. The New Delhi Railway Station is well connected to the International Airport thanks to the Delhi Metro. Ticket Price: ~INR 650-1200

- By Cab: Cabs can be booked in advance to travel from Delhi to Chandigarh

(Distance 250 kms, about 4:30 hours). Travel Fare: ~INR 3000-5000

ARRIVAL NOTIFICATION:

As soon as you have made your travel arrangements, please provide your arrival details minimum

one week prior for us to make arrangements to receive you at Chandigarh. Once you arrive in

Chandigarh, a representative from the Office of International affairs will meet you at the airport to

guide you further. You need to email the copy of your international and domestic travel tickets at:

ORIENTATION:

On Thursday, July16 & Friday, July 17, 2020 there will be an Advising and Orientation

Session for all new exchange students. We will confirm your classes, meal plan, health insurance

and other details during this orientation session. Campus tour as well as shopping and banking

trips will follow this orientation session.

Boarding and Lodging (Paid):

Exchange students are usually housed at the Chitkara Guest House no. 339, Sector 15A,

Chandigarh on twin sharing basis with shared living area. The Guest house is conveniently located

in the Center of City of Chandigarh and in one of the most student friendly Sectors of the City. The

University transportation would be available to take the students to the Campus and back. The

Guest house is approx. 35 Kms. from the Campus.

Meals will be available through Chitkara University Food Services. You will be responsible for

paying for your own food.

Boarding, lodging charges should be PAID by Saturday, July 25, 2020 and the entire semester

charges can be paid maximum in two installments.

You can pay for the housing either in Cash in Indian Rupees or via wire transfer directly in

Chitkara University bank account (accounts details can be shared upon request).

You should bring the following amounts of money:

Tuition Fee

No tuition or semester fees for exchange students from partner universities.

LivingExpenses*

USD 2350 per Semester* - (Mid July to end of Dec, 2020) (i.e. including accommodation, beds & bedding, all meals, Tea/Coffee, (breakfast, lunch and dinner), Wi-fi, Electricity and university transportation from the guest house) and Laundry machine.

(Please note that food is included in housing fee and it is mandatory for all the students to take food along with room as there is no segregation) (Lunch will be provided in the Guest house on days you are not taking classes in the University)

NOTE: Fees listed are applicable for Academic Semester (July to December, 2020).

You will pay residence fee, meal fee, and administrative fee directly to the accounts department in

University corporate office and you will be assisted by Team Office of International Affairs for

doing so. You will have the opportunity to open a bank account and can have a savings account.

You can keep the living expense money in your own Bank account and spend it as per your need.

For safety considerations, DO NOT CARRY LARGE AMOUNTS OF CASH! Be sure to record

the serial numbers of your traveler's cheques for any loss.

SAFETY:

Please be conscious of your personal safety while traveling. Do not carry items for other travelers

whom you do not know, and do not leave your belongings unattended at any time. It is best to

keep your money and your passport/travel documents on your person at all times.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGISTERING WITH THE FRO As soon as you arrive in Chandigarh you are required to report to the Foreign Registration Office within 12 days of your arrival. You will be provided assistance and transportation for the same. Requirements are:
