A HEALTHY TEETH DIET Nutrition plays an extremely important role in our oral

health, particularly during childhood. The greatest single threat to a child's oral health comes from excessive non-milk extrinsic sugar found in soda, juices, biscuits, cakes, candy,

and table sugar. These sugars provide almost twice the amount of food energy for most children that they should!

Also of concern is the increasing practice of adding sugar to milk-related food and allowing infants and children to sip

sugary drinks for prolonged periods of time.

The first line of defense: cut down on sugars, and immediately brush food out of teeth. At the very least,

have youngsters rinse their mouths with water after meals and snacks, or chew sugarless gum. Never allow your child to fall asleep with a bottle containting milk formula, juice or

sugared beverages.

A family plan to eat healthy snacks, follow a rigorous home oral care program, and regular dental checkups at our office will go a long way toward a lifetime of happy teeth
