Operations Management Excellence Award
EXEControl Global Solutionsrecognizes the need for busi-nesses to optimize their Internetconnections. Downtime, connec-tivity drops and slow responsesresult in significant businesscosts. After careful considera-tion, EXEControl Global Solutionshas partnered with Stonesoft.Stonesoft is a global companyfounded in 1990, focused onenterprise level customersrequiring advanced networksecurity and always-on businessconnectivity. This partnership isdesigned to address a number ofissues clients have been facingregarding Internet speed and reli-ability. Stonesoft’s award-winning StoneGatePlatform unifies firewall, VPN and IntrusionPrevention System (IPS) to provide secure, optimized, resilient connectivity. By leveragingthe StoneGate Platform, EXEControl and itscustomers also benefit from the lowest totalcost of ownership (TCO), best price-to-per-formance ratio and highest ROI.
Virtual private networks (VPNs) use the pub-lic Internet to establish secure, low-cost net-work connections between remote offices, business partners and remote users. VPNs aregaining popularity as a way to replace moreexpensive leased lines and frame-relay con-nections. However, not all VPNs are createdequal. Data protection protocols and encryp-tion techniques continue to improve, butInternet reliability remains a barrier to wide-spread VPN adoption.
StoneGate's patented Multi-Link™ technol-ogy provides high availability and load balanc-ing for Internet and VPN traffic across multiplenetwork providers (ISPs), no matter whatspeed, type or how many. Multi-Link technolo-gy enables StoneGate to automatically main-tain the fastest possible link to the Internet andeliminates the Internet connection as a poten-tial point of failure, without the use of complexrouting protocols or additional hardware, reducing the costs and complexities typicallyrequired for the same result. Clients can alsoget granular control of their bandwidth basedupon their specific needs and priorities.
Without StoneGate’s patented technology, many companies have backup Internet con-nections that are only utilized when the pri-mary connection goes down. This means the
company is paying for bandwidth that it israrely using. In addition, when the primaryprovider goes down, connections are lost andmust be reestablished with the backupprovider. The abrupt disconnections can leadto a variety of problems including databasecorruption.
With StoneGate’s innovations, any numberof additional connections are utilized in parallelvia unique load balancing technology. Thismeans companies are taking full advantage ofwhatever type of available connections at thesame time. It also means that when a connec-tion goes down, the user doesn’t experienceany interruption in service.
Through StoneGate’s Management Center,EXEControl Global Solutions is able to gather awide variety of information to ensure that all ofthe communication components are optimizedwith high-level reports, advanced trou-bleshooting, alerting and other tools.EXEControl Global Solutions has also chosenthe StoneGate Platform because of the easeof deployment, friendly interface andStonesoft’s commitment to innovation andcustomer satisfaction.
McGrann Paper Corporation was the firstEXEControl Global Solutions’ client to imple-ment the StoneGate solutions. They haveexperienced a significant improvement inspeed, uptime and uninterrupted connectivity. These improvements stemmed from a num-ber of factors including Stonegate’s identifica-tion of internal packet loss and collisions. Twoother clients are in the process of implement-ing StoneGate solutions and expect to be reap-ing benefits in the next few months.

SQL Database InterfaceEXEControl Global Solutions has
enhanced their standard softwarepackage to have mapping andtransfer features to export data toSQL databases. This enhance-ment was created for SKSIndustries to provide data to aMySQL database for supportingwebsite applications. MySQL is anopen source version of the indus-try standard SQL database.
The new functionality utilizestables and controls to provide max-imum flexibility so a client candefine what data they want trans-ferred. Using EXEControl’s uniquetrigger point features, the data canbe transferred as soon as it is cre-
ated or updated. The client also has the ability to transfer the data in batches via EXEControl’s back-ground processing. The system handles transferring the data to remote databases and converting itfrom the EXEControl multi-valued format into the two-dimensional relational database format.
SKS Industries is using the new feature to transmit customer order and item information to theirwebsite so their customers can view their order statuses and history. SKS Industries is a supplier ofpackaging and scientific products with a significant Internet presence.

EXEControl Global Solutions recently launched the ClientAdvancement Series. This program is designed to provide for-mal training, workshops and more for the benefit of theEXEControl community. As part of an ongoing initiative, thesesessions are designed to strengthen the EXEControl communi-ty by sharing ideas and encouraging self-reliance.
These sessions are also designed to help clients get more outof their system by educating users on how to take full advan-tage of system features. This is accomplished by not only train-ing users, but by working with them to implement system functionality. For example, in October, a series will be offered ondocument storage and retrieval. These sessions will not onlytrain users on software and hardware, they will also walk theuser through setting up the features on their own system. Thiswould be beneficial to clients who are not currently usingEXEControl’s document storage and retrieval or are not takingadvantage of the features to their fullest extent.
The sessions focus on real life examples, practical informationand hands-on experiences. The objective of each session is toprovide knowledge that will allow the user to leave the classwith the ability to meet real-world needs. Each session is broken into segments with hands-on examples at the end ofeach topic.
The series are provided in three-day-long sessions, offeredfour times a year. Users may sign up for an individual session or for an entire three day series. For registration and more informa-tion, please refer to www.execontrol.com.
