About SAmPSon:Congratulations to Sampson, the new Top Dog Mascot of the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission! Sampson and his owner, Laura McKenzie, received a fantastic prize package including a free annual Gold Pass, a personal photo shoot for Sampson, and official mascot gear! Sampson was officially introduced at Pet Fest in April, and will make mascot appearances at upcoming pet-related events including Dog Day Afternoon and Yappy Hour.

When one first meets Sam, it’s easy to see why he is loved by all. From nose to tail, he is embodied with caring sweetness and a desire to enjoy life. Be it rolling in the grass, fetching balls, splashing in the water, running with the pack, or parading around with his stuffed animals, Sam does it all with the utmost style and class. His calm demeanor, obedience for authority and respect for all living creatures make him a perfect friend for both animals and humans alike. Once an abandoned puppy roaming the lonely streets of Clemson, Sampson is now a loyal companion with much to offer. His combination of personality, athleticism, obedience, spirited attitude and loving compassion make him, undoubtedly, the ideal Top Dog.

The 2013 CCPRC Top Dog Mascot contest was very competitive, with over 50 entries received. Applications were accepted online in February, and the applicants were narrowed down to 12 finalists. Finalists were interviewed at Dolittle’s pet store in March. Sampson, a cocker mix and the Top Dog runner-up, an English springer spaniel named Abbey, were selected. Dogs were judged based on friendliness, personality, temperament, obedience and many more factors. Help us welcome Sampson to the CCPRC family!
